(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - The previously reported blockage across the main channel of the North Santiam River near Jefferson has been cleared. (see: North Santiam River Dangerous for Boaters - Gerrit Roelof Salem-News.com OUTDOORS)

A significant amount of trees and debris had collected in the main channel, blocking the path of boaters.

This made the sections of river very dangerous because of a 90 degree turn in the river.

The scenario offered little warning to boaters.

According to the Oregon Marine Board, the large cottonwood tree was removed to the shore on June 25th.

Agencies included in this operation included : The Agricultural Drainage Corporation, Jefferson Fire Dept, Marion County Sherrif's Office, The Western Whitewater Association and many other volunteers. Thanks to all who assisted in making this excellent fishery navigable again.

Below is the link to the Marine Board Website for current information on this and any other navigation obstacles which may present themselves during the boating season.

Special thanks to boatoregon.com and the state of Oregon for these excellent photos of the North Santiam River blockage:
