Ann Coulter: When Does This Crap End? (VIDEO)

Coulter is a prime suspect in the theft of the nation's moral compass.

(SALEM, Ore.) - When we grow up we are taught the difference between right and wrong. Well before reaching adulthood, we are supposed to have a sound understanding of the bottom line, and a reasonable appreciation for the fact that mistakes carry consequences.

But moral decay, divisiveness and polarity are the order of the day in 2007. As a society, it seems like we no longer aspire to be chivalrous. Instead we go for the most outrageous, the most shocking, the most revealing, and the least-clothed.

And networks give time to a media whore who taunts people over the death of their child, calls the widows of 9/11 firemen in New York "Greedy Witches", and states on national television that she hopes a leading politician will die in a terrorist attack.

It brings us to that rotten speck on the TV screen; a tortured soul called Ann Coulter, "Nazi Bitch" as she is known on countless Websites, and she brings us all a particular kind of shame that can't be contained in the continental United States.

The news in recent weeks has been packed with death and murder and tragedy. The rate of soldiers dying in Iraq is climbing, murders and random crimes are growing, and the national media's sense of self regulation is nowhere to be seen.

When students are gunned down on a college campus; shot dead, we cry as a national family. But Ann Coulter can verbalize her wishes for the murder of a high level public official, John Edwards, and FOX News goes on writing her paychecks.

Video

Do Coulter supporters want the same threats to be leveled at politicians they support? If it isn't OK to scream fire in a theater, then how does this twisted person get away with this garbage?

In this next clip Coulter has a chance to show the preceding statement, here is that clip:

Well, that's simple... The wicked witch of the far right and FOX News is willing to exploit her good figure and she has long blonde hair. Sorry, but Coulter is the epitome of people in TV news that only exist because of their appearance. If she was homely and overweight, would she have this stage?

Somebody has to put things into perspective, because the luxury ride of American supremacy is over, and we have pulled out all the stops that once kept people like Coulter in better places, like jail. A time period when people felt compelled to be respectful and decent is growing smaller in the rear view mirror.

And it is more than a theory that world admiration for the United States has flown out the door, and now other nations are watching a diabolical pawn named Coulter getting what seems to be increasing time on the air.

In the two featured video clips, you can see Coulter at her worst, or at least what we hope is her worst.

She is a modern day incarnation of Jane Fonda's personality during the Vietnam War, a blasted traitor with disregard for the bond that is supposed to unite all Americans.

And that illustrates the most important thing that we all should feel obligated to remember; that this is not about right and left folks, it is about right and wrong.

It's also about the increasingly unethical behavior of media bullies who distance themselves farther from the truth, or any concern for Americans, with each passing day.

A former employer of Coulter's, Jonah Goldberg with National Review Online, described what it was like to work with her, "she behaved with a total lack of professionalism, friendship, and loyalty".

USA Today gave her the boot shortly after hiring her to cover the 2004 Democratic National Convention. She wrote one article that began, "Here at the Spawn of Satan convention in Boston..."

Long lost sisters?
Ann Coulter and Margie Phelps of the
Westboro Baptist Church

Some suggest that Coulter is similar in many respects to members of the Westboro Baptist Church out of Topeka, Kansas. They are known for their anti-gay protests and taunts of grieving family members at military funerals.

The bizarre and hateful church group and Coulter have become the two most covered national phenomena's that fully go for the throat of people when they have to bury their own children.

The Westboro Baptist Church does it so they can sue governments that allow them to be assaulted while they assert their civil rights.

Coulter does it for ratings and money.

One primary focus of Coulter's bad energy has been Senator John Edwards. In the past she has called him "faggot", now she says on national television that she hopes he is assassinated by terrorists. Here is the clip where she uses the reference "faggot".

Video

This week on MSNBC's "Hardball," Elizabeth Edwards called in to the show to ask Coulter to stop making personal attacks on her husband, Democratic Presidential Candidate John Edwards.

She also called Coulter out for the tormenting remarks she made previously made about John Edwards having placed a bumper sticker on his car referencing his dead son.

"You had a column a number of years ago which made fun of Charlie Dean's death and suggested that my husband had a bumper sticker on his car that said 'ask me about my dead son.'"

Coulter interrupted her at that point and said, "That was three years ago".

Then as Mrs. Edwards tried to talk to Coulter about her dead son, a heckler yelled from the crowd, "Why isn't John Edwards making this call?" which Coulter then parroted as a response instead of addressing her cruel error. Watch the third video clip below:

It was a classic extension of the "sex sells" world that she hails from. Others call it Hollywood. Wear a low cut blouse and rely on a crowd heckler for your dialog on national TV, what a lousy act Ann Coulter is.

It is reported that response on MSNBC's political blog Wednesday was so heavy it crashed the server. People are angry and Coulter's presence on national TV is visible far outside our national borders.

In strange irony, the problems between Coulter's ability to remain decent in the TV industry and the Edwards family, are an unseen benefit for his presidential candidacy.

Elizabeth and John Edwards

Elizabeth Edwards sent an e-mail to supporters Wednesday morning that included a clip of their exchange and a donation request. Though they declined to name the total, the campaign said they raised more money this week than from any previous e-mail campaign.

"I think when they engage in these attacks and use the language of hate, it's very important to stand up,'" Edwards said. "What happens if you are silent when this kind of hateful language is used - not just by her, but by anyone - hate gets a foothold."

Edwards pointed out that Coulter's attacks haven't been limited to him, but also included his rivals for the Democratic presidential nomination. Coulter has made fun of Hillary Rodham Clinton's legs and compared Barack Obama to terrorists because his middle name is Hussein.

"What she said about Senator Clinton and Senator Obama is outrageous,'' Edwards stated Wednesday. ``And somebody has to stand up when she makes these kind of attacks."

People seem to be waking up to the fact that we all have a lot in common in this country. We may have different backgrounds, but we are supposed to have a red white and blue bond, and it doesn't take a genius to spot a bad apple on a tree. Corporations supporting Coulter need to withdraw their support. People can call Crown Forum Publishing and Random House and tell them to drop their contract with Coulter.

Remember the censorship that has gone on in recent years over people who criticize the Bush Administration; the Dixie Chicks, Bill Mahr being canned from TV because he suggested that the terrorists who took their own lives to kill Americans were not cowards, and who can forget the whole country coming unglued over Janet Jackson's nipple making national airwaves.

With respect to Coulter's criminal statements about seeing Edwards die at the hands of terrorists; in all my life, I have never seen such contradictions.

Talk about losing your moral compass.

Here is another clip on Coulter, where she storms off the set of Hannity and Colmes:

Video

Above all, FOX News is behind the rise of Coulter's attacks on our lingering decency. I have no doubt that the day will come when lies and blatant inaccuracy in news can again be sanctioned and at least disciplined. Even with public officials, there is a line drawn long ago in the sand, and I predict that Coulter is eventually going to be slammed by a huge wave that will sweep her kind out to sea forever.

News flash: John Edwards is an enormous douche and Ann Coulter is still correct! You lose Lefties, back to your drum circle and smoke another medicinal pipe of whatever you deem "unharmful"

JEFF GORDON January 22, 2009 9:49 am (Pacific time)

If democrats were Nazis they'd be republicans.

Jim January 1, 2008 12:16 pm (Pacific time)

If Democrats had any brains, they'd be Republicans. Oh wait, didn't somebody already say that?

Mike August 13, 2007 10:45 pm (Pacific time)

Amazing how so many people hear what they will; so many turn deaf ears to words, context and intent; so many believe what they read without verification; and so few take the time to find the truth. Sickening, actually.

Wesley August 2, 2007 11:31 am (Pacific time)

Your video of Coulter saying that next time she will just say she wishes Edwards was killed in a terrorist assassination plot is misleading. She had been talking about a double-standard, as a liberal had recently said (on stage at a concert) that he wished Bush was killed in a terrorists assassination plot. But you're a liberal, so I guess it's whatever it takes to make people think conservatives are evil, right?

TruthGuy July 4, 2007 11:51 am (Pacific time)

About that reference to Bill Maher, here's what Maher actually said:"BILL MAHER, HOST, HBO'S "REAL TIME": I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power people wouldn't be dying needlessly tomorrow. If he did die, other people — more people would live. That's a fact." Maher was talking about a free speech issue--removal of other people's posts on Ariana Huffington's site. Do you REALLY think that's the same thing as saying Cheney should be assassinated? As usual Coulter just twists the words of others to justify her own hateful comments.

Anonymous July 3, 2007 7:01 am (Pacific time)

"However, I am concerned with the amount of commenters on here who cannot seem to grasp the concept of an "Op-Ed" piece." Yaeh, some of us demand that the Op-Ed piece be based on facts and not intentionally misrepresent things.

Adam July 3, 2007 6:09 am (Pacific time)

This article is right on. There's not too much more to add about this insane woman. However, I am concerned with the amount of commenters on here who cannot seem to grasp the concept of an "Op-Ed" piece.

Laz July 2, 2007 8:39 am (Pacific time)

To the Ann Coulter naysayers. Despite your claims of Ann being heinous-looking (which have WHAT to do with the issues), it really isn't true - she's generally pleasant-looking although a bit too skinny for my taste, and no she doesn't have a prominent adam's apple. As to Ann's proclivity to say controversal things, yes she does, although Tim King's attempt at misconstruing what she actually did say is beyond the pale of honesty and decency. It is now quite clear thar what she did say about Edwards being assasinated was tongue-in-cheek sarchasm based on the Left's capacity to completely overlook Bill Mahr's statement about Dick Cheney. Apparently, you make Ann's point better than she ever could, i.e., that you will overlook the flagrant nastiness of your own while she isn't supposed to be able to point out what you refuse to. Nope, Ann's legit criticism of Mahr and the left was obscured by a deliberate distortion. A shame, really.

Bdub July 1, 2007 9:40 pm (Pacific time)

Wow....was hoping for an alternative to the statesman urinal! This aint it! that was the worst excuse for journalism I think Ive ever seen! Tim did you actually watch the videos before u copied them into this blog? Ann Coulter is right! You ridicule her for the very same traits you display? WTF dude?

Ivan The Readable July 1, 2007 9:12 am (Pacific time)

Really, Tim, if you accomplish your goal (silencing all conservative critics who disagree with you), what will you do then? Maybe you can start knifing those who aren't liberal enough, eating your young, ropeless bungee-jumping...always have a plan ready. --Note, the above is known as hyperbole, many levels above simple name-calling. I would recommend that you try classier ad hominem defilements. It was a good try, though.

Kevin July 1, 2007 8:38 am (Pacific time)

Hey Tim, You call Ann Coulter "The wicked witch of the far right" and lambaste her for her uncivil remarks. How about taking some of your own advice? Oh that's right, I forgot - the rules that liberals establish for others never apply to themselves. Silly me!

hardmath July 1, 2007 7:44 am (Pacific time)

Voltaire said it: I'll defend to the death her right to say these things, even to making a profitable living off material that I find outrageous and objectionable. First Amendment rules, no pre-publication censorship. Of course there are consequences for Ann Coulter, but like all of us, she's one of God's works in progress.

Jay July 1, 2007 6:20 am (Pacific time)

Anne Coulter is mostly correct on the issues most of the time. However, she has become increasingly angry, hateful, harmful and showing "humor" far from funny. It's understandable though. She is a passionate voice believing in her convictions surrounded by many people who are outrageously evil, lying, manipulative and disgusting on the other side of the issues. Where is the outrage from the left over the many outrageous, disgusting and distorted reality comments arising from Pelosi, Reid and their minions? Saying its about right and wrong versus right and left is fine. But without consistently pointing out terrible behavior on both sides of the aisle it is simply a nice platitude.

Jeff July 1, 2007 5:33 am (Pacific time)

One woman's entertaining truth against a sea of sleazy liars.

Kate July 1, 2007 1:09 am (Pacific time)

The reality is that Ann Coulter's fans comprise that group of people who never outgrew their sense of 'humor' in elementary school - those people who still think that picking on the kid in the wheelchair or knocking over the little old lady is hilariously funny. She appeals to them because she writes books, and therefore they think she makes them look smart. How sad.

Neal Feldman June 30, 2007 10:05 am (Pacific time)

to Dave Thomas : Shrub IS a criminal and a liar. The facts clearly prove this. And who said Edwards, his wife or 9/11 wives could do no wrong? It is the unconcionably vile and ridiculous statements regarding them by Frau Coulter (who I swear looks like the undead) that is under discussion. Nice attempt at the logical fallacy/critical thinking flaw of redirection though. Too bad it didn't work.

Francis J. Donovan June 30, 2007 9:23 am (Pacific time)

As a membEr of the "radical right" I was happy to see Fox come as a conservative voIce, but I no longer watch that channel. Coulter is a low class rudE person paid for her uncouth behaviour, Hannity us rude. He does not "interview". He pontificates/ Tue same goes for O'Reilly, Can' Fos find conservates with the knowledge and manners of Bill Buckley founder of the Conservative Party?? Until then I am back with the liberals who have good manners.

Coyote June 30, 2007 8:25 am (Pacific time)

Anne who? WGARA anyway! She's just another one who escaped the gene-cleansing project, nothing more than a mouthy cockroach, an undesirable meat-sack at best.

anonymous June 30, 2007 7:59 am (Pacific time)

Tim, I will not criticize you because Solomon wrote, "He who reproves a scorner gets to himself a stain, shame and dishonor. Instead, I will follow David's words, "Blessed is the man who walks not after the counsel of scorner but his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His word does he meditate day and night. For he will be like a tree planted by the rivers of living water that brings forth its fruit in its season and will not wither. (Psa 1)

Dan June 30, 2007 6:19 am (Pacific time)

This column is a simple lie, and it is fooling simple people. Coulter didn't call for assasination attempts on Edwards, as anyone with a modicum of intelligence can discern. Tim King is smart enough to know the truth here. That makes him a liar. Coulter rather strongly pointed out that libs like Bill Maher can say certain things (hoping Dick Cheney is killed) without facing any criticism in the press, while conservatives cannot. Well, well ..... Looks like she was right, as this column and all these comments so strikingly prove. Liberals hate Coulter because she shows their hypocrisy in stark terms. This dust-up is a great example. She got you again, and will yet again.

John June 30, 2007 5:57 am (Pacific time)

This article completely takes everything Ann says out of context. Go to her website and read her commentaries (www.ancoulter.com) to read what she really says. Her wit is acerbic, but she always hits the nail right on the head.

Raf June 30, 2007 5:54 am (Pacific time)

If people can burn the flag...and Bill Maher can suggest Cheney should have been assassinated during his Afghan visit...Coulter should be able to say whatever she wants...within her context as a pundit....so that the Edwards can use it in their weak ass attempt to gain traction with the American people

BobF June 30, 2007 4:42 am (Pacific time)

Al, June 29, comments: "What a self righteous pile of dribble!" Indeed! If he can't distinguish between an article and a drool of saliva, then I'd have to consider Al's comments as a pile of drivel . . .

Zach June 30, 2007 1:48 am (Pacific time)

She is a modern day Marat (see French Revolution)

Al June 29, 2007 9:59 pm (Pacific time)

What a self righteous pile of dribble! This is an editorial? Suggesting that Ann should be in jail rather than speak out shows how out of balance Tim is. So much for Free Speech. Its good for Tim but not nice for Ann to have the same.

Henry Ruark June 29, 2007 7:22 pm (Pacific time)

To all: Demo-dialog here shows clear, close mirroring of trend statements found in our American history --and showing complete continuing collapse of "conservatism" wrecked once again by ignorance and deep distrust of the rest of us.

on vacation June 29, 2007 7:21 pm (Pacific time)

Two wrongs never make a right. Mahr says something awful then Coulter says something awful. MSNBC, FOX, et al. should stop putting these people on TV if they really cared about anything other than making money.

Dave Thomas June 29, 2007 6:55 pm (Pacific time)

It is okay to openly call the the President of the United a States a criminal or a liar, and to call Christians lunatics, but John Edwards, his wife, and wives of 9/11 victims can do no wrong and are above any comment? How ridiculous! If you don't want to face a public attack stay out of the public eye. Quit taking the hypocritical approach that you know what is right and wrong for everyone. People can decide for themselves without some elitist pontificating from on high.

Jo June 29, 2007 6:49 pm (Pacific time)

Poor poor Ann Coulter. It must be a terrible burden to be assigned to the Gates of hell to turn people back to the right way.

Michael D June 29, 2007 5:42 pm (Pacific time)

She can spout off all she wants but it is obvious she has a real personality disorder and deserves pity. On the other hand, a great piece of news would be that someone as vicious as she Editor's note: Sorry, this part omitted- people can not suggest lethal acts.

Ann's bitch slap June 29, 2007 5:33 pm (Pacific time)

This is what happens when political favor and approval shifts from one side to the other. It just goes to show you how broken and disfuctional the two party system has gotten. You are either on way or the other. No middle ground. LOL

gb June 29, 2007 5:03 pm (Pacific time)

A.C. , just another paris hilton--simple white trash...would guess she would have acted-out against Chrst too, siding with the Romans...never-the-less this is America where white trash is respected and the working class are taxed to death to SUPPORT THEM---Peace Always

Dave June 29, 2007 4:43 pm (Pacific time)

A person named Dave had his comment flushed because he has no apparent behavioral skills. Try it again Dave without all of the ridiculous insults; all comments are approved by our staff and yours is trash. Try it again.

Brian Ahier June 29, 2007 3:59 pm (Pacific time)

If Ann Coulter was homely and fat (like say... Rosie O'Donnell) it would make no difference at all. People listen to her because they agree with what she says. Taking her statements all out of context only makes you look foolish.

captbilly June 29, 2007 3:19 pm (Pacific time)

Why is it that the people on the fringes of political ideology are so angry. Everyone has some legitimacy to what they think and say, but people like Ann and Rush, and I am sure there are some on the left as well, just seem so angry and negative. Years ago I watched Rush Limbaugh a couple of times, and I thought that he had some right on his side for some of his comments (no pun intended) but the whole monolog was couched in an overwhelming anger that seemed to permiate everything he said. Ann seems very much to be cut form the same mold. I wonder if these people were very unpopular in middle school and have never gotten over the anger and frustration of that experience. I would really love to see FCC regulations that required a level of review of what reporters said on TV. If the reporter or commentator said something for which they had no proof they could be fined, sort of like being charged with libel.

Tim King June 29, 2007 2:45 pm (Pacific time)

Mark, One of the recent somewhat heated stories I wrote earlier this month was about how the Oregon Guard soldiers I was embedded with in Afghanistan last year, were being corralled behind a barbed wire fence at Fort Carson, Colorado as a welcome home present on their return from the war.

Why? Because of a single incident in that town involving a drunken soldier who got out of line after returning from the war. For that reason, all returning members of the 41st Combat Brigade Team are being fenced in a compound several miles from the base's mainside with a guard: Oregon Troops Home From War are Under Lockdown at Fort Carson

This story is an example of me sticking up for my Oregon brothers, and being branded as a liberal by news readers because I dared to criticize the Army's wisdom in treating guard soldiers, war veterans, like animals.

Then this story about how our country is taking trusty AK-47's away from Afghan and Iraqi soldiers and giving them our complicated and sanitation sensitive M-16 saw me branded as a liberal again. If speaking out against greed and stupidity is liberal then you have me dead to rights: American Military Ego Will Lead to Problems As We Replace Iraq and Afghanistan's Army's AK-47 with the M-16

So, I guess I would just say again that this is not about liberal versus conservative.

I guess the assertion that I drop to the level of the accused may be true, but it is hard to resist when faced with things like Coulter. Many of us believe her statements soil our reputation as a country, one that many of us still believe strongly in for all the good things we have done.

I also note that you and others apparently choose to overlook the Jane Fonda correlation; I cite that again as proof that this is not about politics, it is about decency or a lack of it, in media.

WC June 29, 2007 1:25 pm (Pacific time)

An Coulter needs to make these kinds of comments so she can keep her face and name in the news. If she truly discussed the issues intelligently and with civility, no one would know who she is because she doesn't have much of anything to say. She markets herself very effectively in this regard. The question is, how much longer does she have in the limelight? Maybe not much longer because her schtick seems to be wearing thin.

Mark June 29, 2007 1:09 pm (Pacific time)

Tim King (editorialist), I'm wondering when you'll write an article entitled "Rosie: When Does This Crap End". If you're so (rightly) upset at this age's uncivil discourse you'd be better to level your writing against ALL offenders -- not just those with whom you disagree politically. If your beef is the "crap" that's being spewed these days, then harp on that. You lose credibility when you criticize the state of "moral decay" and "polarization" yet succumb to those very traits yourself in your article ("Nazi bitch", "media whore", etc) and with no mention of the others like Rosie and Maher that are in exactly the same boat as is Coulter.

Blaine June 29, 2007 12:59 pm (Pacific time)

The thing that amazes me is that there are a variety of quality debates that take place on PBS, NPR, and CSPAN that very few watch or listen to. In these forums, they actually have experts with real analysis who respect one another. But rational debate of real issues doesn't attract crowds and people are disinterested in discussions that require prior knowledge about economics, history, political science, etc. Instead, they want to hear somebody with an appearance of education call somebody they don't like a "faggot." This is true on both sides (Ann Coulter, Michael Moore, Bill O'Reilly, Bill Maher, etc.). It's Jerry Springer political debate.

Mark June 29, 2007 12:35 pm (Pacific time)

Here's the link of the Bill FULL Bill Maher video. http://msunderestimated.com/RealTimePt2.wmv Give it a look. You'll quickly see Maher's attitude about Cheney is no different than Coulter's attitude about Edwards. What's different is that Maher gets APPLAUSE for saying something that Coulter gets SKEWERED for -- yet Coulter is merely mocking Maher. Coulter says a distasteful thing to make the point that the Left-driven media let's those like Maher get away with "murder" yet castigate those on the right for simply alluding to someone as "faggot". She makes her point. And Tim's article proves she's right...

Anonymous June 29, 2007 11:50 am (Pacific time)

Stacie: A point that is being missed by the right is that yes, Bill Mahr made those comments, Bill Mahr is a comedian!" So why is he, like Rosie O'Donnel, so unfunny, and why is the central theme of his show politics? Stacie: "He is not trying to make serious points on "News" networks." Respectfully, Stacie, this is untrue, unless you consider the appearance of serious politicos such as Michael Moore and Ralph Nader comedy bits. Stacie: "Those who listen to him, want to and pay to see it on HBO. This is not BS that is spread like a virus to the American public via network TV." So hate speech and calls to kill people are all right as long as they occur on cable? Amazing Stacie: "Let's keep things in a proper prospective!" Oh, lets!

Guy June 29, 2007 11:44 am (Pacific time)

She is making a living out of stiring up hate and discord. That is a very unhelpful profession. This is a free society but do we need/want that? Just ignore her and others alike. The media will react quickly finding someone we want to listen to. Someone not playing to our lowest emotions and instincts. It is in our hand. The media is just a reflection of our weaknesses.

no thanks June 29, 2007 11:41 am (Pacific time)

"All of you mean spirited right wing neo cons are going to roast in hell, you probably already are if you have what it takes to stick up for Coulter. You were raised very poorly, really cheated. What a bunch of losers." this, like most of the comments here, is laughable. talk about hypocrisy...

John June 29, 2007 11:35 am (Pacific time)

Whack job right-wingers like Coulter and "Rush" make a living coming up with convoluted, childish rants for the entertainment of fellow, like minded racist, hypocritical idiots, rather than getting real jobs doing something constructive for society. The founding fathers of our nation were, by todays standards, left wing radicals who fought people like this to get away from the sort of fascist dictatorship that Bush Republicans want to turn this country into. And they talk about who the traitors are! The Right is destroying American democracy, just as President Eisenhower warned they would.

Stevejbons June 29, 2007 11:11 am (Pacific time)

Why is this silly 'political' pundit still getting exposure on mainstream media outlets and fringe networks like Fox News? It’s simple: her personality and attitudes are a perfect reflection of the far-Right. Her angry, racist, homophobic and over the top statements are like Mother's milk to at least 20% of the American public. You know the kind of people I'm referring to: the slack-jawed, knuckle-dragging, bible-thumping, Wal-Mart-shopping retards that give 'ugly American' a whole new and delightful meaning. The kind of folk who rarely travel outside of the country, can't barely read and have a totally distorted world view and zero understanding of their own country's history. People like the Bush family, for example. You know, ethnic cleansing is never a good solution, but for America in the 21st century, it certainly seems worth trying.

David June 29, 2007 11:10 am (Pacific time)

The word "sanctioned" in the last paragraph, is misused. To "sanction" is to "to give effective or authoritative approval or consent to".

Paul Bryant June 29, 2007 11:04 am (Pacific time)

Who the hell is Tim King?

mollyivinsrip June 29, 2007 10:29 am (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter has nothing to bring to the debate, in fact she never did. Her outrageous behaviour and her stuck in the 80's, recycled cocktail dress is what does it for the neo con boys who gravitate/masterbate to her. They are so predictable. LOL It is one thing to have an idea about changing something - it is quite another to suggest that by putting rat poisin in someones soup you can. Ann you have been irrelevant for quite some time. I think your supporters are coming to terms with that and it's making them yell so loud. Who will fill that "I hate everyone who's not white" place?

Stacie June 29, 2007 10:15 am (Pacific time)

A point that is being missed by the right is that yes, Bill Mahr made those comments, Bill Mahr is a comedian! He is not trying to make serious points on "News" networks. Those who listen to him, want to and pay to see it on HBO. This is not BS that is spread like a virus to the American public via network TV. Let's keep things in a proper prospective!

Anti-hate June 29, 2007 10:15 am (Pacific time)

This looks like its clearly labeled as an editorial story, so why does every one think Tim should have danced around his take on this venomous mouthpiece? He can say what he wants, just like you fools who think it's justified to defend her only in relation to the one remark vs. Mahr's remark. You barely have a point at all, and it's all you can talk about. That's not what Mrs. Edwards called about. Do you have any compassion for the loss of a child? Coulter has a black heart. Remember what she said about the 9/11 widows? Doesn't that even bother you a LITTLE BIT? I guess you didn't lose any one then, or you don't miss them if you did.

Don June 29, 2007 10:05 am (Pacific time)

Tim, Excellent article. Which high school paper do you work for? Keep at it. You have exactly what it takes to make it in the left wing media.

Michael Collins June 29, 2007 9:54 am (Pacific time)

It is definitely time for more civility in the public discourse in America. The political left and the political right in America are not enemies--they are adversaries. Let's all start supporting civility and mutual respect and stop giving air time to those who prey on our base emotions--no matter what their political preferences.

NT June 29, 2007 9:51 am (Pacific time)

Tim King is guilty of severely mutilating the context of everything he is complaining about. He started with a conclusion and twisted everything completely out of context. Even what is included with this piece proves Tim King wrong. After reading this I know more about Tim King the character assassin than I do about Ann Coulter the loose cannon.

Christopher London June 29, 2007 9:42 am (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter expresses a mainstream viewpoint.....if this were NAZI Germany. She is a fringe element, much like Michael Moore. Both have figured out that controversy increases sales of their books etc. Neither of them have an interest in the well being of the American public. Their only interest is fattening their own bank accounts. Ann Coulter lives on a diet of caffeine, cigarettes and other stimulants. She smells like a dirty ash tray.

charles June 29, 2007 9:30 am (Pacific time)

i am a democrat, actively serving in the national guard with a short tour in iraq. i love my country. period. i chose to set aside the liberty of deciding individally how i serve because it is more important to me that i serve. i set aside political preferences that are quite secondary to my responsibility to my comrades in arms. it is reprehensible that a party would foist these fetid rants and diatribes upon the public and then have the audacity to maintain their stance that it is comedy. it is not and none of the validated vapidly vain who have found a home in the nest of miscreants perceive it as humor. it is the personification of the utter contempt the previously marginalized have for whichever aspect of our nation they personally despise. there is no hate within the republican party for any group of people in the world that comes close to their blatant hatred for their domestic political adversaries. it is insulting, disgraceful and dishonorable.

Tammy June 29, 2007 9:10 am (Pacific time)

Great article. Ann is definitely a nut case who shouldn't be given any airtime. Thanks for putting this out there.

George June 29, 2007 8:56 am (Pacific time)

She was making a reference to another talking head (a liberal) who wished the VP was killed in Afghanistan. So she said in jest, "I guess I'll just have to wish Edwards is killed in a terrorist bombing" which is EXACTLY what the liberal said. I don't recall Tim King saying THAT was totally out of line. I don't recall the left wing crying foul at wishing our VP had died in a near miss with a terrorist bombing. If not for hypocrisy, their would be no Democrat party. Why not ACTAULLY LISTEN TO WHAT SHE SAID AND THINK FOR YOURSELVES!

Jay Martin June 29, 2007 8:02 am (Pacific time)

Wow how can you sleep at night? It is okay for an HBO commentator to say he wishes the Vice President of the United States was killed in a terrorist attack, but it's not okay for someone to comment on Mahr's idiocy? Edit all you like but play the whole piece to get the real answer.

Neal Feldman June 29, 2007 7:57 am (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter has never had anything legitimate to say. If she ever did it was so drowned in her bile as to become unrecognizeable as such. I agree she is a national embarassment. She is like a moronic bully who sees an intelligent person do or say something and then thinks they are slick when they make a fool out of themselves trying to twist it to their agenda. Kinda like when the bully tries to taunt the kid of a woman in the military by saying "your mom wears combat boots". Hello! So what? I see her antics as just modern day examples of the tactics of Goebbels and the rest of the Nazi political propaganda machine. They certainly share the aspect of taking advantage of the generally low intellect, education and thought ability of the dyed in the wool conservatives to whom she plays to. In other words the 15-20% of the electorate to whom conservatives can do no wrong and 'liberals; can do no right. And I'm not saying thee is not an equally idiotic group of 15-20% on the other end of the political spectrum. If the media stopped giving 95% of the air-time to those two segments and instead like it used to focussed on the 60-70% in the middle not only would discourse be much more civil, it would be much more legitimate and rational as well. But I do find it interesting how Coulter looks the part of the Nazi frau including the cadaverous eyes. Maybe that is just me, but I always expect to see her put a swastika band on her arm.

Anonymous June 29, 2007 6:58 am (Pacific time)

Tim - "Big Dog, I've taken more heat than this, and I live in the kitchen of news." If that were true, your article would contain more truth and less rhetoric spewed from the Edwards campaign. Ann is right - Edwards is a wussy boy.

Brudder June 29, 2007 6:54 am (Pacific time)

Tim - "Wow Brudder, Should I call you names too?" Who cares? You started the name-calling in your idiot article, and if I call you a liar, well, its because you are one as is evidenced by both your article and subsequent posts. I should apologize, however, as its possible that you were merely duped by the Edwards campaign, which put out the YouTube item you cite above that cuts off half of Coulter's sentence. C'mon, boy, you could at least apologize to Ann for that travesty once you learned of it! But I won't hold my breath. you're too much a coward to apologize to Ann for such an act.

John the refugee June 29, 2007 6:28 am (Pacific time)

My my, calling Ms Coulter a Nazi Bitch? Did you call out Bill Mayer for comparing our President to a Nazi? Did you report how Chris Matthews setup Ms. Edwards so called "call in"? How about that kind and gentle blogger Ms Marcotte on the payroll of Mr/Mrs Edwards? Have you or do you read any of the hateful and shameful things said by liberal commentators that go completely unchallenged? Ms Coulter says some very ugly things: but she is no dummy, unfortunately. I see her as a mirror: she is very good at returning "blows" in equal force/ferocity that are administered daily by the so-called "left". So you, Mr. King, can start the march toward civility by refraining from gleefully reproducing many of the names Ms. Coulter is routinely called. Come now, young man, where is your spine? You might also consider listening to Michelle Malkin's comments about the things people leave on her blog as they are similar to the ferocious personal attacks on Ms. Coulter. Aside from the death threats and comments about "it should be ok to rape" her because she is conservative b***, Ms. Malkin along with Ms. Coulter takes a very public stand about freedom of speech and expresses their opinions. This article, like so many others I have read from Oregon newspapers is why I don't subscribe. I responded to this one as it made my morning Google news read.

Robbin Cowen June 29, 2007 6:24 am (Pacific time)

Bravo! Bravo! Decency and fairness are not dead, how can anyone put the slightest creedence in Coulter's twisted logic?

MIKE WHITLEY June 29, 2007 6:11 am (Pacific time)

WAS MY 8TH GRADE SCIENCE TEACHER WRONG WHEN SHE SAID ONLY MEN HAVE ADAMS APPLES? POOR ANN MAN.....

Mark June 29, 2007 6:09 am (Pacific time)

Great Article. She is such a nazi. I like her line that Bill Maher said the same thing about Dick Cheney. Well, does that make it okay to say those kind of things because Bill Maher said it? Look what happened to him. She is a well paid poster child for the far right. She is pretty and has long blond hair and she is probably paid to say those things. People like her and the Bush administration have been all about dividing people. United we stand divided we fall. The far right has figured this out so they pull us apart so they can conquer. Again, great article

Paul June 29, 2007 5:43 am (Pacific time)

Sheesh .. if you are going to be a liberal and call everybody else names then be thick skinned enough to accept the opposition position. Why do you believe that everyone is like you? We aren't. (There are tests you have to flunk to be liberal -- economics, science, math, statistics, political science, history, logic to name a few)

Not a joke June 29, 2007 5:33 am (Pacific time)

I find it funny that so many "conservatives" keep claiming that anne Coulter is just joking. Too bad all of her supported don't think so. What proof do yiou have that she is joking? Because she says so? Please....you wouldn't accept the same excuse from a liberal. Hypocrits.

King June 29, 2007 5:32 am (Pacific time)

Those who pruport that liberal make the same comments forget that they are not given a national stage to do so, and are not presented as "experts." Also, please provide a serious comment form a liberal who makes such hateful and inflammatory remarks as Anne Coulter. Those awho support her are the bigots and racists of America, and so you opinion means NOTHING. Commenting on-line in an anonymous forum just makes you more a a pussy. I never see you people in public, where are you all at!!!???

Dumb Blond June 29, 2007 5:27 am (Pacific time)

What is the media fascination with dumb blonds like Paris Hilton and Ann Coulter. It is encouraging them to be dumberer if there is such a word. They are a discredit to dumb blonds everywhere.

Mike McFadden June 29, 2007 5:24 am (Pacific time)

You should be ashamed of yourselves for even posting a piece calling for speech controls. I thought the media were the defenders of freedom of speech?

skytiger June 29, 2007 5:20 am (Pacific time)

Say what you will about Coulter, but I believe she's driven more people away from the Conservative agenda than any other single American (not currently holding office).

Ray June 29, 2007 5:06 am (Pacific time)

It appears that when the left go off the deep end; Ward Churchill, the Boulder public school system, Bill Maher and many others, the left wing media, such as the Salem-News either justifies their madness or accepts their position. When a right wing person get even close to the madness of the left, the newspaper explodes its coverage and demonizes the person. Ann is not as bad as Bill Maher, or Rose, or Ward. The only thing I am thankful for is that the fairnes doctrine applies across all media - i.e. the only balance to papers such as the Salem-News is talk radio.

Jeff June 29, 2007 4:51 am (Pacific time)

Everything has been taken out of context. I can't believe mainstream media has fallen to the level of the supermarket tabloids, and worse, that the public hasn't noticed.

hypocaust June 29, 2007 2:22 am (Pacific time)

She only called someone a faggot, which is hardly a crime. Comparing her to Jane Fonda is not accurate. And how many readers did you lure in with this whore of an article? Pot, meet kettle.

Steve - CO June 29, 2007 12:53 am (Pacific time)

Dear Tim and those commenting, Many comments here refer to Ann Coulter’s quote that “...Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack...” Have any of you who believe this statement from Ann to be the truth, taken the time to find evidence to support her claim? If you find it, would you share it with the rest of us? I found a transcript of a discussion between Joe Scarborough, Bill Maher, John Ridley, and Barney Frank. Obviously, from written words, you can’t always tell about the tone or inflection of what was verbalized. The four men were talking about an un-named online reader’s comments. The reader-commenter had “...expressed regret that the attack on Dick Cheney failed.” John Ridley stated, “They” (the online commenter) said “We wish he would die.” The referenced reader’s comments were deleted from the site. Maher asked, “...if this isn’t China, shouldn’t you be able to say that?” Later Maher said, “But I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power, people wouldn’t be dying needlessly tomorrow.” Maher concluded with, “I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact.” Whether “That's a fact” is debatable. Were Maher’s statements harsh? Probably, but as harsh as they may have been, his defending an online reader’s comment rights, and his stating opinions about: 1. people not dying needlessly if Dick Cheney was not in power, and 2. more people would live if Cheney were dead, are not, “I wish Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack” as Ann is claiming. She attributes the unidentified reader’s “wish” comments to Maher and holds it up as a justification for dropping her insinuation that John Edwards is gay and instead wishing him dead. Coulter: “I’ve learned my lesson. If I have anything to say about John Edwards in the future, I’ll just wish that he had been killed in a terrorist attack.” Twisting truth into lies that people believe is Ann Coulter’s forte. Here’s another example: Elizabeth Edwards speaks directly to Ann, asking her to stop making personal attacks. Coulter responds by twisting the request into a lie: “...you're asking me to stop speaking, ...to stop writing [my] columns, to stop writing [my] books?” The intent of this lie is obvious. Coulter didn’t want to address her personal attacks -- her “jokes,” so she lies her way around the subject. We know that sex sells. Obviously, hate sells too -- whether it comes from the left or the right. Choosing to buy into lie generated hate it is our choice.

T Ray June 29, 2007 12:35 am (Pacific time)

I am so glad I live in a country where people can discuss their differences without anger. Oh, I forgot, I am an American and the far Right has created an environment where hate, fear and anger are the only things that drive discussion.

Harrold June 29, 2007 12:34 am (Pacific time)

Those claims that Coulter "wished" someone was attacked by terrorists and the other comments are largely purposely misinterpreted and carefully "crafted" by removing the words before and after. And every newsman knows this. How about lying about someone? Is lying about Coulter's comments "right" or "wrong" in your moral book?

Tim King June 29, 2007 12:16 am (Pacific time)

Big Dog, I've taken more heat than this, and I live in the kitchen of news. Please read some of my other stories before forming too many opinions about me, check my war coverage in Afghanistan at: Dispatches from Afghanistan: Tim King Reporting before you judge me too harshly.

Everyone keeps throwing that "liberal" word out, but I'm not pro gun control, I'm not a crazy environmentalist, I believe strongly in the U.S. military because they do not choose the conflicts they become involved in, etc.

But our people have been put in harm's way for a long time by a bunch of guys who have no military backgrounds, and don't even start me on George W. Bush's military service, that does not qualify.

Believe me, I support the right things with these articles and I will always shoot from the hip, I realize that, but I feel like Coulter is an embarrassment to the nation and I'm sorry again that we even have to have this be the discussion.

Fla-Guy June 29, 2007 12:15 am (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter and Rush< the junky > Limbaugh should breed. I bet the kid looks like Dick Cheney. Probably go Quail hunting also. Why give this trash any kind of attention, ignore them, they'll dry up like prunes.

Tim Dunn June 29, 2007 12:14 am (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter works for Rupert Murdoch, who is trying to buy the Wall Street Journal. If he succeeds, how many exposes of corrupt companies do you think the WSJ will do after he takes over?

Big Dog June 29, 2007 12:02 am (Pacific time)

Tim: Looks like you cannot STAND THE HEAT! Well, get out of the kitchen! I'd like to see equal time from you on INFLAMMATORY remarks made by Sharpton, Kennedy, Jackson and the rest of the Lib/Dem's who you are afraid to take on. Huh? How about it? Hmmmm.... your silence does not suprize me one bit.

Grow Up June 28, 2007 11:23 pm (Pacific time)

This is a great article, Ann Coulter is just a dumb idiot making money off of the half wits who will listen. Do any of you really believe that this idiot represents conservatism? Just like Micheal Moore represents liberalism? Ms. Coulter is part of the problem that help drag conservatives down and will keep dragging them down, the woman is basically mental, But,,she fits in well with the currant administration. Personally I don't think Mrs. Edwards should have said anything to Ann,,what have you gained if you have bested a fool?

Tim King June 28, 2007 11:17 pm (Pacific time)

Wow Brudder, Should I call you names too? You want to just joust? Well this isn't the place for it. I'm not surprised that you aren't appeased. You asked me to put it up, and I did, and here you come again, you're an annoyance now.

You stick up for who you want man, I tried to show you that I had no problem letting the whole quote be posted, then I put it up. You stick up for Dick and Ann, but I guess people have to have their heroes. I do what I can to expose people like your hero Coulter, and I'll keep on doing it.

Anonymous June 28, 2007 11:04 pm (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter: "But about the same time, you know, Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack -- so I've learned my lesson: If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot." Tim's Quote: "so I've learned my lesson: If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot." And Yet Tim doesn't see the problem

Brudder June 28, 2007 10:54 pm (Pacific time)

Tim- "Brudder, no problem, I'll put it in the story right now. It will appear in a few minutes. It just makes her look all the worse to me" Then you truely are a fool. Coulter was making fun of Lefties like you, who seem to think serious statements about killing VP Cheney are fine. What Coulter did was say that, based on Leftist logic, its okay to advocate the assasination of someone you dislike. Tim - "people assume the words are out of context as I initially presented them" And they were Tim - "but the point is that you and the others like you think think it is OK to say those words in a sentence, and it is just plain wrong." My GOD you're stupid. Bill Mahrer made a serious statement about assasinating VP Cheney. Coulter was pointing out Leftist apparently think that sort of hate-speech is okay. Amazing!

Allan June 28, 2007 10:52 pm (Pacific time)

Thanks, Tim. I just discovered Salem-News.com thanks to Google News. Needless to say, you're bookmarked. AC is for me a sad example of what my country has become. I'm a high school teacher, living abroad, and there was a time when I was proud to speak for the United States. The only thing I can say now is to tell my non-American friends that the day will come when Bush and Co. will no longer speak for the country. Nor, hopefully, will Anne Coulter speak for herself or anyone else worth the trouble to listen to. In one day today, we had the Supreme Court turn back the clock on civil rights, the US Senate block immigration reform because it held out the promise on the Statue of Liberty to more of the world's downtrodden who believe in the US and it's promise, a report that the armed forces are so stretched that they are having to assign troops to duties for which they have not been trained, thus putting them in greater danger in a combat zone, and a story that the administration is stonewalling a subpoena so that we poor Americans can find out what our government is really doing. Sad, sad, sad. No wonder the Chinese, Hugo Chavez, and Putin are more trusted than is the United States of America. And by the way, I grew up in South Carolina, and there was a time when I was proud to be a Conservative too. That was looooong ago!

David M June 28, 2007 10:51 pm (Pacific time)

Here is the full quote: "But...Bill Maher was not joking, saying he wished Dick Cheney was killed in a terrorist attack. So I've learned my lesson [from Bill Maher]. If I am going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot." It seems obvious to me that the point Coulter is making is that Bill Maher's statement was hateful and outrageous. Her outrageous statement about Edwards was used to emphasize that point. She did not literally mean she wished Edwards was assassinated. In fact, in the context of the full quote, she is actually saying that her statement about Edwards is hateful and outrageous. Now, I am no Coulter fan. But on this topic, my analysis is correct. The interpretation that she wished Edwards were assassinated is categorically incorrect. That some people seem to misinterpret what she said probably relates to the fact that she has bashed Edwards at other times. But this was not one of those times.

rasqual June 28, 2007 10:40 pm (Pacific time)

Aside from how leftists don't seem to understand the trope known as "hyperbole," the full quote about death by terrorism is a critique by way of reductio ad absurdum, not a remark advocating such. The idiocy of those who don't understand reductios is something to behold...

George Hanshaw June 28, 2007 10:25 pm (Pacific time)

Coulter is laughing all the way to the bank over the tizzy libs throw every time she opens her mouth. No matter how much the libs try to vilify her...she's doing nothing the left-leaning mainstream news anchors and political commentators don't do...she's merely opposite polarity of their outrages. Now in fact, Edwards was USING Ms. Coulter to rev up contributions from his far-left base, and in reality that's a GOOD thing. Money they waste on Edwards won't be available to them when the 2008 campaign fets started in earnest...once the Dem nominee has been decided...and that person sure as hell isn't going to be Edwards...

Mary June 28, 2007 10:18 pm (Pacific time)

For all the people who are saying, "There are thousands of hate-spewing Liberals, and Ann's just one Conservative": That doesn't make it right. NO ONE, whether Liberal or Conservative, the Pope or the King of England, has the right to say the things Ann has said. Shame on Ann and shame on ANYONE like her (liberals and conservatives alike).

Peter Switzerland June 28, 2007 10:08 pm (Pacific time)

On the process of elections: as an outsider all I can do is understand why in the end "the worst administration ever" - as Carter said - gets elected, (though through probable fraud) with this kind of people (Coulter)forming the public opinion. I hope that we do not have to conclude that the saying: "Every nation gets the government it deserves" has any substance in this case.

Anonymous June 28, 2007 9:57 pm (Pacific time)

Taking people of contex, then bashing them seems a little unfair. Couldn't you find a legitimate hateful statement from a conservative to support this story?

Greeno in L.A. June 28, 2007 9:47 pm (Pacific time)

I can't help but think you've all -- right, left, center -- become a bit unhinged.

abbytherabbit June 28, 2007 9:45 pm (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter is the Courtney Love of the Republicans. Whether you agree with her or not you just gotta hear what that crazy b*tch is going to say next.

Greeno in L.A. June 28, 2007 9:45 pm (Pacific time)

For those who care, the above-mentioned 'though-I-disagree-with-what-you-say-I-fight-to-the-death-for-your-right-to-say-it' "quote" is Voltaire, not Patrick Henry. Patrick Henry said "Give me liberty or give me a lower introductory rate on my Visa card."

Mike June 28, 2007 9:31 pm (Pacific time)

If you read about her outside of this thread and actually do your homework, shes not so bad. Keep up the good fight Ann!!

John N. June 28, 2007 9:24 pm (Pacific time)

Good night, I hope to have a dream that we all can be at peace with one another all over thw world and be nice to each other. I hope you all have the necessities to sustain your families life wherever you are in the world. I hope it comes true and the news is real tomorrow!!

Greeno in L.A. June 28, 2007 9:21 pm (Pacific time)

Well, so far the most articulate, well-reasoned, level-headed, and cogent comment posted here so far has been that of Ann Coulter's! Love her or hate her, she's not dumb or inarticulate or any of the other choice adjectives used to describe her. She can be insufferable, and she does have rather annoying mannerisms, but I hardly think she's deserving of being doused in petrol and lit up like a roman candle, as so many here would seem to suggest. I'm not a particular fan of hers (I think she tends to engage in baiting over honest discourse), but I like to think I can disagree without being disagreeable, and ultimately unless we can all agree on THAT then there seems little reason to believe that any of us will honestly hear or be heard by those who stand apart from us. As Herbert Spencer wrote, "In proportion as we love truth more and victory less, we shall become anxious to know what it is which leads our opponents to think as they do." I don't see how we can move forward in any meaningful manner without such a mindset, and liberating one as well, I might add. The liberated mind, afterall, does not advocate; creed holds no sway. In the end, all are well-served to speak honestly, completely, and decently, even if in disagreement. As for Tim King... I think someone needs a hug.

Annz Snizz June 28, 2007 9:20 pm (Pacific time)

ann is a clown, a dancing monkey in her 15 minutes. If paris hilton had an education she would be ann. YAP YAP YAP!!! Look. we have to deal with her tirades now, but how will history judge her.......HAH!!! all she wants is her attention, "oh look at me, listen as I say some more silly $#!*". ann is just a paris, lindsey, or brittney on the political stage. So dance monkey dance, your 15 minutes will end like all other clowns on the stage. She'll either burn out or fade away. DANCE MONKEY (ANN) DANCE!!!

Hope Angel June 28, 2007 9:20 pm (Pacific time)

"Do Coulter supporters want the same threats to be leveled at politicians they support? If it isn't OK to scream fire in a theater, then how does this twisted person get away with this garbage?" Ah, but they do. Don't tell me you've never heard of the Kos Kids.

Maryam June 28, 2007 9:14 pm (Pacific time)

Lordy, don't you folks know? Coulter is the biggest coke-head out there. And I'm a Teddy Roosevelt Republican saying this.

Austin June 28, 2007 9:12 pm (Pacific time)

Good Job Tim. You added the whole Ann statement on the 2nd video. You can really see in that secound video of the whole statemnet how full of anger and hate and how much see really wants Edwards to die. Yea... Yea... so full of hate. And that guy agreeing with her that she's so hateful. Tim.... please throw out some more liberal meat for us to chew on.

Russ Thayer June 28, 2007 9:08 pm (Pacific time)

I am not a supporter of the current administration. I registered to vote and voted in the last presidential election, for the first time in my life, against George Bush. I am 58 years old. However, I cannot remember a president more outrageously and moronically vilified by his political opposition. The conspiracy theories and other inane slanders made it impossible to sustain an intelligent debate about or air intelligent criticisms of his presumptions and policies. The rotten to the core left, which has hijacked true liberalism, is the slime in which darlin' Ann is rooted and from which she draws her sustenance. Edwards is like a puddle of water. He placidly reflects whatever is above him, then gets all disturbed when somebody steps in his surface. They are both rather odious characters.

Marty June 28, 2007 9:04 pm (Pacific time)

"If she was homely and overweight, would she have this stage?" I'm not sure, why not ask Rush Limbaugh?

John N. June 28, 2007 9:03 pm (Pacific time)

Can't take my commentsfrom earlier can you news media control folks. Wheres free speech when you don't post comments against you!!!!! Double faced therearen't you!!!

Juan June 28, 2007 8:48 pm (Pacific time)

This article sounds to me like it's a 100% liberal. Liberals hate FoxNews for one thing and hate Christians because they don't believe in homosexuality. Ann Coulters says it like it is. Liberals are the enemy and will cause this nation to fall. If it ever does, Muslims are eager to behead liberals first because they're Godless.

Editor's note... Margie Phelps, is that you? Just remember that Salem-News.com is a business and free speech is not part of it. This comment is unedited because it borders on entertaining, but speech like that this which is expressly hateful in nature is not what our comment section is for, and it is a serious candidate for the "flush button" and that is always only a keystroke away. If people persist in sending unacceptable comments we will ban your IP from the site. At any rate, these are all approved by living people, so please try to be as respectful as possible.

F Chuck June 28, 2007 8:47 pm (Pacific time)

Chuck? where does abortion come into this. You out there right wingers will agree with anyone that opposes abortion? My freedoms were never threatened by IRAQ. Can you answer me this? How many Americans died at Iraqi Hands since the Last Gulf War ended? How many died at the hands of Saudis and Pakistanis? Think about things before you spout

FF11 June 28, 2007 8:47 pm (Pacific time)

This crap ends when someone has the good sense to flush her.

Jerry June 28, 2007 8:46 pm (Pacific time)

Thank you Tim King for your editorial. Ann Coulter is sad. What is sadder is her narrowminded lameass defenders.

Tim King June 28, 2007 8:46 pm (Pacific time)

Amen to that Dave, there are countless good conservative people in this world. Nobody even knows what anything means anymore. I thank you for making a point of the fact that most if not many conservatives are good people with only the best intentions.

John June 28, 2007 8:43 pm (Pacific time)

People, people. When will you learn that this is not a matter of left vs right, lib vs conservative. It's American Citizens vs. Corporate America. All very cleverly designed to divide and conquer. While we're bickering over non-issues like stupid fools, the .0001 per cent of the rich and powerful are having a field day robbing this great country of its wealth, its resources and its good name. Take a step back from the fireworks, folks, and see it for what it is: a grand distraction from the issues that really matter.

John N. June 28, 2007 8:42 pm (Pacific time)

I want the right to purchase only the cable network channels that I want. If we have freedom to chose then I definitely would cancel services from FOX, CNN and any other provide who are trying to make news and distort the American public or the world. This insident is only one of many programed to destory peoples faith and belief in good. I donot thing administrative approval should be necessary for comments either. News media programs now days are planned to ensight people, news should be news, honest direct news. Not planned entertainment. I want to take FOX and CNN off my cable service and I should be able too. I should be able to take any and all off I want. I turn to other now but those beam the same stupid stories. If I had the right to pick only channels I wanted, they would be limited. I should throw the TV's away!! But I can't get the news from newspapers anymore or magizines because they are full of the same crap. Face it folks, the commom person doesnot get to control what they are exposed to in the news media, its not news its entertainment and sales promotion. Money grappers have all the control, they sit in their big houses and offices because we the American people have voted political money grappers into office that pass laws against us. We have no control!!!! Only a major awakened public out cry and disconnection of cable, TV and News Media services will get national or international attention to stop the play games and get back to real news. News does not try to change peoples thoughts, it should report facts only!! We the people should decide if the want change. I don't pay any attention to the lady in question, she appear stupid, acted that way, and I changed the station!!!! Mrs. Edwards has my respect, she took and stand and she was right to take the action. More power to Mrs. Edwards!!!!! Now FOX, do you give your administrative approval of thiscomment!!!

Dave June 28, 2007 8:42 pm (Pacific time)

Calling Ann Coulter a "conservative" is an insult to the many fine, intelligent, moral conservatives I have known throughout my life.

She is amoral, bottom-feeding scum of a person whose level of political discourse is in the gutter.

And yet she has people defending her. That says a lot about the moral fiber of those people. Sad, ignorant, hate-filled people. No class to be found among Ann Coulter fans.

Gary Holmes June 28, 2007 8:41 pm (Pacific time)

Way to go Ann!! I just love it when you P.O. the loony left - like ole Tim.

Chuck June 28, 2007 8:39 pm (Pacific time)

There is no such thing as bad press, only bad reporters. These videos will certainly persuade Liberals and more likely it will convert them away from the lunatic fringe they preach from. Tim King - some x-Marine..., you're a shame to our country and your inability to deal out the full picture is poor, the reader needs to hear and comprehend all sides of a story... your are irresponsible. This just an excuse for you and Salem-News to try and get some net traffic. You're a pathetic and a waste - T.King. If you want to report something, how about shedding the truth about woman deciding to kill - 2 million babies annually - it's an elective choice and that's sad - Lefty's worry more about 3k military men and woman dieing for our freedoms versus 2 mil abortions performed annually...

El Guapo June 28, 2007 8:38 pm (Pacific time)

Its funny how you right wingers were dumping on anyone who bashed bush just a few months ago but now Even Coulter is bashing his immigration plans. Its funny how you decide who can bash who

Yawn June 28, 2007 8:34 pm (Pacific time)

Freedom of speech? not entirely, its freedom of greed. Just because you are able to freely speak your mind doesn't mean you get a big soapbox to use. If FOX and publishers weren't expecting to bank $$ due to the attention that Ann gets we'd never hear from her. I guess its a perversion of 'sex sells' but its more like 'crazy sells'.

Jon June 28, 2007 8:34 pm (Pacific time)

It's quite humerous to see how you right wing boot lickers jump to say this article is against free speech yet you know you would do anything you could to silence any free speech that is not in your liking.

Markie June 28, 2007 8:33 pm (Pacific time)

Grown men love her! We love little Michelle Malkin, too! Should they be censored? Heavens, no! We menfolk love it when those little foxes toss their hair and say naughty things! It's--pant,pant--hot!

cnn June 28, 2007 8:33 pm (Pacific time)

hate perpetuate hate--that's what she stands for -

GR June 28, 2007 8:32 pm (Pacific time)

Hey ANDY ' Excellent how you conviently left out the entire first half of the sentence where she said Bill Mahr wanted the VP dead. This is true liberalism, lets take a small snippet of what you say, and I can make it say whatever I want. It is nice how you decry Ann, and enough is enough, by what calling her a NAZI, Hoping she is in jail. Wicked witch of Fox,etc. This is effective journalism? ' Yep Fox News and other Rabid Conservitive Media Outlets never take things out of context do they. SF

GOP_FKHEAD June 28, 2007 8:31 pm (Pacific time)

GOP are mindless, gutless sheeps. Bush and Cheney are milking your tax money away you FKHead. Just take your idiot king and get FK out of the country. You retarded, brain washed, empty skull.

John June 28, 2007 8:30 pm (Pacific time)

All of you dumb a's that quickly jump to judgement on Tim don't know or research a damn thing on him.

ljc June 28, 2007 8:28 pm (Pacific time)

Tim - thanks for the thoughtful op-ed. Between your service as a Marine and your service as an essayist and reporter, you've truly done a lot in defense of our nation. Thanks again! Walt - where exactly are these 50,000 democrats making hate speech? Did Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and Savage switch parties? Did no one send me the memo??? BTW - pointing out that the President is violating the law, trashing the Constitution, and uh . . . may not be all that smart, is NOT 'hate speech'. Them's "just the facts"!

Tim June 28, 2007 8:28 pm (Pacific time)

She's obviously mean because her blood sugar is so low from missing breakfast lunch and dinner for years. If only one of us would send her a box of shredded wheat or a pop tart we wouldn't have to hear her confused hunger-driven hate rants. If I didn't eat for like a year I'd be a bitch too. Ann Coulter "Pretty"? puhlease... if anorexia/bulemia is cool then consider her Miles Davis.

Andrew June 28, 2007 8:27 pm (Pacific time)

If Ann's comment was not taken out of context, why then did you not include her entire statement. Why did you only include the last 10 seconds of the clip?

Tim

Andrew, I am not saying it wasn't an edited comment, you are missing the point, that she should not have put that sentence out across the air. I can disguise a point and throw a nasty sentence into the middle of it, I guess it is semantics.

So, I have added a video clip after the :10 second clip that has Coulter defending herself. If that is what you guys wanted, then you have it. I think the redemption factor is zero whether you watch the whole quote or not.

Keri Smith June 28, 2007 8:27 pm (Pacific time)

What a hypocrit... down with the name calling, you say as you call Ann C. a "Nazi Bitch" and a "media whore." You say she has no right to have made the statement that was essentially a quote from Bill Mahre (which you have conveniently left out of your video). I wouldn't mind you telling her to tone it down, stick to the facts and refrain from such remarks, if you would hold everyone on the other side of the fence to the same standard. Sadly, it doesn't appear that you do... and sadly, you don't even see the hypocrisy of your op-ed.

LairB June 28, 2007 8:24 pm (Pacific time)

We learn in chruch the importance of honoring the dignity of every human being, as they were created by a loving god. Ms. Coulter's view would make Jesus weap. While I honor her dignity as a human being I question her her humanity, and her sponsors who benifit from ill gotten wealth obtained from what can only be characterised as evil and greed.

jpb June 28, 2007 8:22 pm (Pacific time)

Ann who? Just another piece of crap in the world.

Skipper Osborne June 28, 2007 8:22 pm (Pacific time)

As I watched the videos of Miss. Coulter, with her sun glasses on and constantly running her fingers through her hair: I see Nothing but grand standing, a "politica" and a "movie star" wannabe. To speak of wanting to kill someone because of a different party, or political views is very sad indeed. Notwithstanding, such garbage that spews out of the mouth of Coulter and the likes, should drive everyone who have heard her, to get involved in the political process to keep them out. Let Coulter's remarks be your call to action my friends.

moh June 28, 2007 8:22 pm (Pacific time)

You call Ann Coulter a media whore??? Nah, she is just a skinny little whore, all she eats is red herring, which then hurls all over in public.

Me June 28, 2007 8:20 pm (Pacific time)

With Ms. Coulter's great body, narrow mind and propensity to titillate loathsome men, she should have been or hooker...or is she?

George June 28, 2007 8:18 pm (Pacific time)

I'm not exactly conservative, but with an MBA, and degrees in Physics and Computer Science, I'm not your typical liberal. I have to say that the statements referenced in this article are disgusting, as are the comments defending said statements. I'm not an Edwards supporter, but Elizabeth Edwards responded as a lady and in this regard her behavior impressed me. The attacks coming from the far right are vile and unprincipled. They weaken our country, and they damage our soul. I'm angered.

Jean Whitman June 28, 2007 8:18 pm (Pacific time)

As an Oregonian I am very sick of you liberals condeming the state that I was born in to LIBERAL HELL. Free speech is not only for you and the State of Oregon does not belong to you and your wackos It is very embarassing to even see you put something like this article in print, you prove to the rest of America the hipocrates that you are, your side invented HATE speech. If you can't take it then don't dish it out!

Alan June 28, 2007 8:17 pm (Pacific time)

Forget Ann Coulter, folks! Your entire country is slipping away because you can't see that right and left both feed out of the same trough. Focus on things that really matter for a change.

Agent of Change June 28, 2007 8:16 pm (Pacific time)

We are lucky to have such an obvious example of conservative, Republican right-wing hate in their spokesperson, Ann Coulter. She really shows how ignorant conservatives really are, and helps THINKING people see how WRONG the right really is. More Coulter to help turn more intelligent people to the left!

MJ June 28, 2007 8:16 pm (Pacific time)

This op-ed drips with visceral hatred -- plus, Coulter's comments about Edwards are taken totally out of context. If she is bad, you are worse. Get a life!

Andy June 28, 2007 8:14 pm (Pacific time)

Excellent how you conviently left out the entire first half of the sentence where she said Bill Mahr wanted the VP dead. This is true liberalism, lets take a small snippet of what you say, and I can make it say whatever I want. It is nice how you decry Ann, and enough is enough, by what calling her a NAZI, Hoping she is in jail. Wicked witch of Fox,etc. This is effective journalism?

Joe in Chicago June 28, 2007 8:13 pm (Pacific time)

I cannot believe that FOX continues to give her money. O'Reilly is almost as bed as she is, he gives her a voice and a soapbox and he is equally disgusting as she is. She is so wrong. Except on immigration. Her position on immigration is correct. Everything else she is flat wrong.

T. Candell` June 28, 2007 8:13 pm (Pacific time)

Its amazing how libs seem to go nuts when anyone is irreverent to one of them, yet they can utter the most vile stuff around at a conservative, and still be praised by their fellow whack-jobs as progressive, tolerant, stately, etc. Its really fun to see them get upset at someone who gives back in kind and then some.

Max June 28, 2007 8:12 pm (Pacific time)

Typical whining from the biggest hypocrites there are - Loonie Lefties. You can say all the anti-GWB stuff, call people Nazis, NeoCons and the like, but when someone speaks back in your own childish manner, you go crazy. Are you stat stupid to not even see that she is doing the deliberately to shop the hypocrisy of the media, and make fun of you whack-jobs in that crazy state up north? Plus, the ugliest women in the world are from Oregon. Next in line is Washington State. I bet the chick who approves these comments will not post this because she is probably a tubster from Salem. Coulter is hot.

bill smith June 28, 2007 8:11 pm (Pacific time)

the salem news is a liberal whore paper that knowlingly took a small Coulter soundbyte and warped it by playing it alone, she was joking about what someone else said earlier, and echoed that she could get away with the same thing! Salem News: you are liars and typical of the blatantly one sided attacks by the drive by media, shame on you!!!!

Diver Dude - Hawaii June 28, 2007 8:11 pm (Pacific time)

I can't believe that we live in a country where our media even puts people like her on television for any reason. Who the hell is she besides some loudmouth ignorant person that makes rude comments at the expense of others. anna Nicole was a skank and she had more clas than this person!

Shut up June 28, 2007 8:08 pm (Pacific time)

You liberal moron. Ann has more brains than 100 left wing journalists added together. You're just making her more revered in the conservative community. Keep up the good work, dunderhead!

everyman June 28, 2007 8:07 pm (Pacific time)

Ann who? I never watch Fauxnews as I know the family falues Rupert was raised with.

Dusty June 28, 2007 8:05 pm (Pacific time)

There is so much wrong with this country right now I don't even know where to start. The republicans are deffinatly part of the problem, but so are democrats. I'm so fed up with our political system. It is just a bunch of self serving, power hungry people clawing out anyones eyes who disagree with them. Why can't we just except that people have different views on issues and simply let people live their lives the way they would like to live them as long as it doesn't impeed on anyone elses freedom. That's what I thought this country was about but I think I was sadly mistaken.

Anthony R Rasmus III June 28, 2007 8:00 pm (Pacific time)

When you take a sound bite out of context and create this soap opera and try to make it sound as if it is real. You have no shame for this hypocrisy. I need to teach my son who is now 6 who the real enemy in America is and I sincerely hope other parents are trying to educate their children to know who is really trying to hijack our country. Beware America. The new arch criminal is on the horizon. The mullah from the left. Thank God for intelligence and for Fox. Ann Coulter and Dick Morris expose truth everywhere.

Austin June 28, 2007 7:58 pm (Pacific time)

Why do you show video with only HALF her sentence in it. In doing this you, and doing it with PURPOSE, your OP-ED writting becomes a half truth. Why don't you show the whole truth and let the readers decide what they will from the total truth. But I guess your purpose is a Half Turth.

Davo June 28, 2007 7:57 pm (Pacific time)

The probel with you CC boot lickers is that you assume that anyone who doesn't worship Ann is automatically a left wing commie. I'm far more conservitive than most of you effs and agree with alot of this article.

Harleigh Quinn June 28, 2007 7:57 pm (Pacific time)

When we were children and later as we became adults and had children we learned a simple thing: If a child acts out for attention IGNORE IT. IGNORE HE or SHE THAT SEEKS ATTENTION RATHER THAN GIVE THEM THE ATTENTION THEY SEEK. Do not buy her books, do not watch her shows, do not read any magazine in which she is featured, do not acknowlege her existence......... AND SHE WILL GO AWAY. It says that she does this for exposure and money. For ratings. No corporation will support her if she is not achieving the ratings they desire. The republicans able to think for themselves are no longer paying her any mind or acknowleging her existence. We as just plain human beings should do the same. These op-eds still allow her to get ratings and exposure. I had no idea who she was until the news chose to write about her, so in essence the news is to blame for her success. There are many other things that require our attention in this administration that we don't need to waste the resources paying this attempt at a shock jock any mind. No ratings, and she just fades away........... Let's remember what we have learned and just give her a permanent time out. That's what I do and I'm fine with it.

Brudder June 28, 2007 7:50 pm (Pacific time)

Dear Tim King, Let the readers of your crap see this video, which includes FULL context and doesn't clip sentences half-through ... Then everyone will know you are a liar

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJhAJ_i_f9U

Brudder, no problem, I'll put it in the story right now. It will appear in a few minutes. It just makes her look all the worse to me, people assume the words are out of context as I initially presented them, but the point is that you and the others like you think think it is OK to say those words in a sentence, and it is just plain wrong.

Conversely, if anybody said that about Bush they would be arrested, and they should be.

Coulter is not reasonable, I can't believe you rally to the defense of this miserable woman in the center of a swirling controversy, you are not supposed to say the things she says.

She like others, obviously are always testing the waters to see how far they can get. Imus learned the hard way, and people need to think about the impact of words; if this CRAP wasn't coming out of Coulter's mouth then I would be writing something else.

When I grew up in LA back in the 60's and 70's, they took others to task for acting like idiots and being totally stupid, I guess that's just my culture.

Charles Spiegelman June 28, 2007 7:49 pm (Pacific time)

Ha HA someone is mad, wonder why maybe its because you guys are irrelevent. Ha HA

Wade June 28, 2007 7:45 pm (Pacific time)

Keep up the good fight Ann.

walt June 28, 2007 7:34 pm (Pacific time)

50,000 democrats making political hate speech and 1 republican and she's the one that gets your attention. Yeah, she shouldn't do it, but get real you hypocrites!

Valjean June 28, 2007 7:32 pm (Pacific time)

Attack tirades from both sides will diminish when the ballot includes a no column and the highest net yes wins. No longer will A attacking B be able to assume the voter will vote for A if convinced B is a scoundrel. The result would be a more honest reflection of voter sentiment and the winner would know if they won with support or just by default because the other got more no votes. And the campaign would be much more positive since negative attacks wouldn't produce yes votes. Winning isn't everything if you can't do anything with it since you have little or no support. The last election shows that . Most agree the GOP lost more than the Dems won but the result doesn't show that, just the limited effectiveness of the slight majority in congress. A no column would let everyone know where real support is and where it isn't

The editor June 28, 2007 7:30 pm (Pacific time)

The name calling is going to roll to a close, keep your comments to and about the content of the story.

ckc June 28, 2007 7:23 pm (Pacific time)

l love this whore

peter J Commisso June 28, 2007 7:07 pm (Pacific time)

Many years ago I dated a thing (woman) with the same attitude, She died0 a shriveled sad lonely wreck,, all alone.. Look in that mirror COULTER, . and be afraid, very afraid..

Anonymous June 28, 2007 6:56 pm (Pacific time)

Nazi Bitch will help bring this conversation back to its moral compass?

fmcd2000 June 28, 2007 6:53 pm (Pacific time)

Why did you not play the 5 seconds of video before your clip? I know, it explains everything and then you would not be able to show your "moral decay, divisiveness and polarity". Through your next stone when you move out of your glass house.

Tim King June 28, 2007 6:42 pm (Pacific time)

rhoadie, I am anything but a coward, and that is proven and demonstrated. I am a military historian and documentary producer and most recently, a combat correspondent for KPTV, the Portland, Oregon FOX affiliate and Salem-News.com. I started my life straight of high school in the Marine Corps.

I have always taken on bullies, Coulter is just one more. And if you were standing in front of me you would not be calling me a coward. I have been a reporter for twenty years and my voice is growing by the day as we continue to rate higher and higher on the Web. Tens of thousands read these stories, I hope to see a day when I don't feel compelled to fight fire with fire.

Why don't you pay attention to my Jane Fonda analogy? That clearly shows that I am middle road. I'm certainly not a fan of John Edwards specifically, I think he has a lot to offer, like the other candidates.

So do you advocate for drug addict Rush Limbaugh? How about Bill O'Reilly who pins the crimes of nazi's on American WWII veterans? I think most of the Coulter supporters are people that will never change, but people who ultimately rally for peace and justice at times of war, not against the concept of war as a whole, are growing. We are a lot of middle road people, and all it should take for every red blooded American to be incensed over Coulter's attitude and disrespect and cruel remarks is a slight leaning away from right wing politics. In the end, people of my party have taken out the kid gloves out for a fight one time too many. Many of us are done with the lies and greed of the America corporations and insurance companies. It hasn't gone too far, it has gone way too far.

John June 28, 2007 6:40 pm (Pacific time)

I remember when Ms. Coulter was first surfaced during the Clinton administration. She was irrational, off topic and hysterical. Even the far right comentators wre dismissive of her.She hasn't changed;unfortunately, she was tolerated and celebrated.I wouldn't even read the back cover of her book to know what it is aboutbut that woman has no credibility to refer to the loving God -much less than to invoke his name in the title.God loves her eventhough a fragle human like myself doesn't want to. I recognize that she has to be morally bankrupt to behave as she does. However, as a man who loves women and all that is beautifull about them, I can't agree that any aspect of her appearance in any way contributes to her being tolerated.

rhoadie June 28, 2007 6:30 pm (Pacific time)

The real story here is all the name-calling and finger-pointing between all the various commentators. This IS ameriKa in action. The sheer hatred and level of invective between Liberal and Conservative is a sure sign of the divisions that threaten our country. When our "journalists" are unable to present us with balanced news reporting, we are in dire straits. In my opinion, Ann Coulter is an arrogant, self-serving witch. Also in my opinion, Tim King is a cowardly liar for leaving the first half of her sentence out of his article. Words taken deliberately out of context in order to change their meaning make up the most despicable and cowardly of lies.

Dorace June 28, 2007 6:23 pm (Pacific time)

and they fired Imus??Is the PIG (personal image grandstander) going to continue to make threats. I normally do not get upset but when an upstanding American Family is treated this way///what is this great America coming to? Down with Fox

Joel Friedland June 28, 2007 6:18 pm (Pacific time)

Thank you for publishing this op-ed.

Shupy June 28, 2007 5:57 pm (Pacific time)

So if what Ann Coulter says is a joke, aman. It's like making fun of blind people is a joke. It's all in very poor taste. The slander, the nastiness, and the lies shame both sides. But those of you who consider yourselves conservative, and Christian, do you really believe that the kind of rhetoric Ann Coulter spouts shows any inkling of a Christian soul? Making fun of the death of a child is not funny, ridiculing the widows of 9/11 is not funny. What ever happened to dignity in this country. If anything I would think those who were conservative would want to retain a little dignity, rather than letting the whole world see the depth to which we have sunk in our political discourse. You cannot justify her foul remarks by pointing out someone elses foul remarks, and no one with integrity or intelligence should be defending that kind of behavior.

Francis Man June 28, 2007 5:56 pm (Pacific time)

It is funny that you question the moral compass of Ann in her quote about Hillary's chubby legs while neglecting to mention that the rest of the quote concerns Bill Clinton's rape of Juanita Broadrick when Clinton was the Attorney General of Arkansas, talk about lack of a moral compass! Then you also neglect to mention that Ann was talking about Bill Maher saying that he had wished that Cheney had died in the terrorist attack, so she was just doing the same thing and seeing if it would stand. I don't see you calling for Bill Maher to be taken off the air. She also points out how Edwards. But you don't care you just like misquoting people and being a hypocrite.

Tim King June 28, 2007 5:55 pm (Pacific time)

Well Dave, you too need to reexamine your debate; Al Franken is not a vile comedian, he and I spent time together last winter in Afghanistan when he flew in for a USO show, in the war theater- and he had just arrived from Iraq. I agree in part with what you said, and i believe you are well intended, but you can not compare the reach and impact and potential liability of Coulter's words with Maher, and Franken is not even in the mix you refer to. The day before he arrived in Kabul a friend of mine who is extremely conservative, asked if, "I thought the soldiers were making snowballs with rocks in the middle to throw at that liberal?" I told my friend that I didn't see any of his Limbaugh/O'Reilly types there, in fact I don't think either of those two have covered a war, (somebody correct me if I am wrong.) But at least Al Franken has the guts to go support and visit soldiers in a war, it is not a simple or easy thing to do.

That night my friend ended up having to get Al Franken situated; fed dinner and assigned a place to sleep. He thought Al Franken was the nicest celebrity he had ever worked with, very genuine.

Is your own zeal justified sir? You are the one sticking up for somebody who speaks in ways that are unprecedented.

J. Ray June 28, 2007 5:51 pm (Pacific time)

Today is the first I've heard of this person. Not because I'm uninformed... because I don't watch TV news. "Fox news " is an oxymoron and network news isn't much better. For those of you that don't like her... don't watch. For those of you who like her... you're already beyond moral saving.

Bill June 28, 2007 5:51 pm (Pacific time)

I love Anne. As a Dem. I hope she gets just as much air-time as everyone will give her. Her comments are by and large appreciated by the far right and despised by the far left. But...the middle? I'm guessing that they don't appreciate anyone, Rep. or Dem., calling widows names or using homosexual slurs. She's not going to convince the left to vote Rep. but she's sure as heck not going to convince the fence-sitters to vote Rep. either. And the meaner and nastier she is, the worse her image and the Rep. Party image will be to the undecided. I love the first amendment. And I'm a big fan of the second too just in case you're wondering. And I'm a Gulf War Vet as well, so feel free to call me a nancy. That's veteran-gun-owning nancy to you. BTW I voted of Clinton twice, and that was just in '96...So bring it on Anne, the Dem's need all the help they can get. And thanks.

Brian June 28, 2007 5:43 pm (Pacific time)

I consider myself a conservative. I am first generation Irish catholic, raised with the most conservative of values. We've lost it. Someone wrote, "we conservatives love Ann Coulter." I believe that is the pervasive attitude among conservatives. We have lost it. We no longer have the values of Barry Goldwater. My hope, and expectation is that we will soon see through all this Ann Coulter neo-con malarkey.

Dave June 28, 2007 5:37 pm (Pacific time)

There's an amazing dynamic occuring in the Democratic Party in the last several years - Freedom of speech is guaranteed, unless you disagree with them. Ann Coulter says some really stupid, obnoxious, outrageous things .. like Al Franken and Bill Maher and others. It's all pathetic. Does she have a right, of course. Is your zeal justified, nope. Do i wish we had a country with better manners and morals? Absolutely. Start in your own neighborhood.

Dane June 28, 2007 5:34 pm (Pacific time)

People compare Ms. Coulter to similiarly minded left-wing pundits. However, those pundits lack the airtime and exposure that she receives. The current state of media and politics in this country is at an all time low that seems like it will never, ever stop plummeting.

ex-republican June 28, 2007 5:21 pm (Pacific time)

One correction to the article AC does not have a good figure unless anorexic is considered good. She is disgusting with her appearance and what she feels she has to say. Well haven't we all had enough of the rightous conservatives. We have given them control of both houses and the executive branch and what did they do? More damage to our society than the democrats ever dreamed of. The sicopant media (FOX included)has continually mixed in a little partial truth here and there in the constant barage of propaganda lies. Wait, isn't that one of the descriptions of evil?

midwest girl June 28, 2007 5:17 pm (Pacific time)

The only disagreement I have with the article is saying that Coulter gets away with this because she's pretty. Does anyone think so? She's so UGHLY and the anorexia doesn't change that. I think she's so mean BECAUSE she's unattractive. Note her persistent attacks on the more attractive liberals.

Jeff June 28, 2007 5:15 pm (Pacific time)

Look, to the libs who are harping about how nasty Ann Coulter is--of course she is nasty. You don't think your people aren't equally as nasty? The only thing that separates Ann from the nasty left wing lunatics and their nasty rhetoric is that she actually is able to discern reality and doesn't recreate it in order to make an inflammatory statement. The political climate today is horrible, and it is due to the left wing, not to the right. The tone of Rosie O'Donnell is pure sweetness compared to some of the crap coming from Moveon, et al.

brokenarrow June 28, 2007 5:10 pm (Pacific time)

All the coulter supporters here confirm that this is acceptable behavior, and it's okay for your kids to model this behavior. However, first time voters don't want to die for oil, and want an end to the lynch mob that is the RepubliCON party. That is why the 18-24 year old demographic is totally voting Democrat next presidential election. You confirm the message: ANN COULTER = The REPUBLICAN PARTY.

ADP June 28, 2007 4:54 pm (Pacific time)

Its FREE Speech, not fair speech! Love or hate her, Ann does get the juice flowing. BTW - I just love her so totally...!

brokenarrow June 28, 2007 4:53 pm (Pacific time)

GBotterner: LOL at your comment. "She's more of a man than you'll ever be." First, there is a persistent rumour that AC is in fact just that!! Ergo, the nickname, mAnn coulter. So, that was a good one. Second, if you actually read the other comments, you'd know that Mr. King served in the Marine Corp. That's something none of the chickenhawks would EVER DO. They just start wars, but very, very rarely ever put their bodies on the line and fight them. Thus, the nickname, Five Deferment Dick, AWOL bush, etc. Have a nice evening, brokenarrow P.S. ANN COULTER IS THE SPOKESPERSON FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

Terry Blackwood June 28, 2007 4:49 pm (Pacific time)

Actually Bill Maher started this "crap" as you call it when he advocated the assination of Vice Pres Cheney. I don't remember hearing from ANY newsman or columnist that this was completely out of bounds. In point of fact, advocating assassinations of public officials is a federal crime with prison time I would assume. But hey, killing the VP or the Pres is ok if they are Republican!

V June 28, 2007 4:39 pm (Pacific time)

Ann on a bad day is worth a lot more than the cumulative value of all the Dems that try to match her wit. She slaps the 'rats down!

slavicdiva June 28, 2007 4:33 pm (Pacific time)

To all those who say Coulter's deathwish for John Edwards was just a reference to something Bill Maher said--then why didn't she wish Bill Maher would die? He's the one who made the comment she found offensive, not John Edwards. I applaud Elizabeth Edwards--she's one classy lady. I admire her ability to remain polite in the face of this shrill hatemonger--I don't know that I could have done the same had someone wished my husband dead. And it is never, ever, acceptable--let alone right--to make fun of someone's grief; not the 9/11 widows, not the Edwardses, not anyone's, not ever. It isn't funny. It isn't decent. It isn't necessary, period. Coulter should be ashamed.

ME June 28, 2007 4:32 pm (Pacific time)

I agree with Tim's position and and general theme. However, isn't it odd that his piece uses the same tactics -- personal attacks and name-calling -- for which he criticizes Ann Coulter? And isn't it strange that so many comments -- from all sides to this controversy -- do the same? I like John Edwards, because I agree with his positions on the important issues of the day. I like his ideas, and what he says rings true in both my heart and my head. "A Coulter" has a posting here that defends her position with so-called "facts," which are basically a collection of anecdotes about Edwards, including an accusation that he uses the death of his son to advance his political ambition. When will it stop? When will our political discourse rise above this? That's the point of the controversy, the reason why Elizabeth and John Edwards challenged Ann Coulter in the first place. And it seems to be lost in Tim's article as well in most of the comments presented here.

Emily June 28, 2007 4:30 pm (Pacific time)

Labeling ourselves and others as liberals and conservatives, leftists and rightists - this is destroying our country. Partisanship is about division; a strong country must be united. I myself am socially 'liberal' and economically 'conservative'; I support whichever political figure makes the most sense to me, regardless of party, and I believe in freedom of speech for everyone. That said, Ann Coulter has the right to say whatever she wants, but that doesn't mean that she OUGHT to say those things. Just like Michael Moore and Bill Maher, Ann Coulter needs to learn to shut her mouth, because Elizabeth Edwards is correct - this kind of political bickering is destroying any real attempt at communication between the parties. I can't stand anyone, regardless of politics, who acts this way in such a serious forum as our governmnet. Let's have a little respect for others, shall we? Furthermore, let's use our brains. I read someone backing Ms. Coulter because she is a "best-selling author". That is sort of like how Michael Moore is an award-winning director, and neither title gives you any sort of special insight in the realm of politics. That's what we call a false appeal to authority, and it is a logical fallacy. When people on the political radar speak with wisdom, then and ONLY then should we listen.

Nathan Hale June 28, 2007 4:28 pm (Pacific time)

Funny, where's your outrage about Bill Maher (spit) wishing Vice-President Cheney would have been killed in a terrorist attack??? Liberals want free speach ONLY for themselves.

Dan R June 28, 2007 4:26 pm (Pacific time)

Tim: The first rule of writing professionally should be to get your facts straight. Coulter's statements regarding the WTC are in no way even similar to your highly reactionary depictions. You're a left winger and, accordingly, you hate Coulter just like you hate any conservative who openly upholds their conservatism and patriotism. Dan

BuddyBear June 28, 2007 4:26 pm (Pacific time)

Hey, Dorks, if you had an iota of honesty you'd post YouTube out-takes of Coulter's complete sentences, rather than chop them up out of context

mike June 28, 2007 4:26 pm (Pacific time)

Tim, you liberal simpleton...let me see...how about Osama Obama's comments on the christian right, or your poor bereaved boy Edward's campaign workers rants against Christians, or how about that obnoxiously fat object of lesbian motherhood Rosie, or how about Bill Maher, whom Ann quoted and substituted Edward's name where Vice President Cheney's had been...you liberals. You like to dish it out, but certainly can't take it coming back to you, eh??? OH, and one more thing Mr. defender of the first amendment, how about your liberal heroes thinking about passing athe fairness doctrine to do away with anyone that speaks against them...how about that??? You're just another liberal journalist that has their head up their ass...moron.

John June 28, 2007 4:22 pm (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter sounds like an ugly "tell it like it is" drunk at your local bar. She blames Vietam Veterans for losing that war and wanted to force Muslims to convert to Christianity following 9/11. She is obviously mentally ill, and should be treated for her paranoia and hatred toward "liberals". Only a person who knows they are wrong spews out such ridiculous garbage to save face. Ann Coulter would fall apart if only we, as a nation, laughed at her.

Soeren Poulsen June 28, 2007 4:17 pm (Pacific time)

Coulter, needs to make outraged statements to sell herself and her books. It has nothing to do with party politics as Coulter is picking the current administration as her favorite because it gives her publicity by being contrail. She is a savvy business person, but a very disturbed and sick individual who is making money on causing pain upon other people not agreeing with ultra conservative position.

GBoettner June 28, 2007 4:15 pm (Pacific time)

Gee Mr. King why don't you hit her with your metro-sexual purse. She more of a man then you will ever be.

Anonymous June 28, 2007 4:14 pm (Pacific time)

By the way Tim, as a true liberal, I note you don't let the FACTS get in the way of your ranting.

Boettner June 28, 2007 4:13 pm (Pacific time)

Amazing after all the hatred and vitriol by the liberals and Democrats over the years. When someone strikes back they whine like children. You pathetic liberals make me sick. Anne is great and we Conservatives love her.

Chad June 28, 2007 4:09 pm (Pacific time)

Just for the record: "If she was homely and overweight, would she have this stage?" Rosie O'Donnell....I believe this pig has a stage.

Marty June 28, 2007 4:07 pm (Pacific time)

You shouldn't call her a Nazi Bitch. She is a horrible, nasty woman -- and I wish she would leave John Edwards alone. Every time she opens her foul mouth, I end up sending John Edwards more money -- and he's not my first choice to be Democratic nominee!! But so far, I haven't heard her advocate the level of hatred and destruction espoused by the Nazis. Though I am tempted to say that you shouldn't compare her to Nazis because it gives Nazis a bad name.

Normal June 28, 2007 4:06 pm (Pacific time)

You people are worried way too much about simple stuff. It was obviously a joke and made to be inflamatory. The funny part is, is that all of you fell for it. Have a long and self induced dramatic life.

Joely June 28, 2007 4:05 pm (Pacific time)

She sells. You're right - she wouldn't if she were a troll. The Jane Fonda comparison doesn't work... Fonda was never this vitriolic and ... oddly enough had a certain shame later and a certain sort of concensus. Ann never will. It's all about divide and conquer and sell books and raise ratings. Until we're done looking at the 'car crash' that is today's politics, it's bound to go on.

TK June 28, 2007 4:04 pm (Pacific time)

Another whining, crying little nancy whose feelings got hurt by a conservative. This article is the equivalent of "I'm telling Mom!!!!". A "journalist" should know better considering how much they preach about free speech. Tim needs a whack on the head with a rolled up paper.... NO!!! BAD TIM!!!!!

Get real, Idiots June 28, 2007 4:03 pm (Pacific time)

Ann, a woman with balls! You limp wristed fags would cower in her presence.

Tom Paine June 28, 2007 4:01 pm (Pacific time)

To all of you Coulter apologists, whining poor Ann has been taken out of context this time, explain if this comment regarding the widows of 9-11 is wrong:

"These self-obsessed women seem genuinely unaware that 9-11 was an attack on our nation and acted like as if the terrorist attack only happened to them. They believe the entire country was required to marinate in their exquisite personal agony. Apparently, denouncing bush was part of the closure process. These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by griefarrazies. I have never seen people enjoying their husband’s death so much. How do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies?"

Now, what part of this sickening spewing of hatred isn't clear to you? Do you believe the children of departed deserve to have statements like this made? I thought the "Con-Dumb"viewers and hosts of Fox Noise were the stalwarts of family values. That all life is sacred. What about these children?

Concerned this is quote made on a TV show is being taken out of context, here is a direct quote from her book. After reading it, please leave your comments pointing out where it is taken out of context:

"These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis. I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."

Still think this is liberal media slamming?

Here is the transcript from her interview on Fox Noise, which we all know is feeding the liberal media's agenda.

From the June 8 edition of Fox News' Hannity and Colmes:

SCHWARTZ: Because the Republicans just seem to fight their political rhetoric versus everyday reality, and the everyday reality is that these women did not seek their celebrity status. They're not trying to hang on to 15 minutes of fame.

COULTER: They absolutely did.

COLMES: They didn't seek to be celebrities.

SCHWARTZ: Absolutely not.

COLMES: Do you think for one second, Ann --

SCHWARTZ: What? They willed their husbands to be attacked?

COULTER: Did they just trip into that Vanity Fair photo?

COLMES: Let me ask you this. Ann, do you think they -- for one second -- these women wouldn't give up whatever notoriety --

COULTER: They just woke up one day and suddenly they're on the Today show.

COLMES: Please answer my -- please answer my question.

COULTER: They didn't ask for that.

COLMES: Hold on one second. Decaf, next time. Do you think these women, for one second --

COULTER: You're saying crazy things.

COLMES: Decaf, please. Calm down. Do you think for one second, these women would not give up every piece of celebrity and notoriety they have to have their husbands back?

COULTER: Oh, I don't know. At this point, to give up $2 million --

COLMES: To have their husbands back.

COULTER: -- and to go back to cooking meals and not be --

SCHWARTZ: Oh, my God, what are you saying, Ann?

COLMES: They wouldn't do that to have their husbands back?

SCHWARTZ: These are woman, that had husbands --

COULTER: -- appearing in Vanity Fair. They're clearly enjoying their celebrity status.

COLMES: They would not give up -- I want to be clear on this. They would not give this up to get their husbands back?

COULTER: I don't know. I can't read into their hearts. But it isn't as obvious to me as it apparently is to you.

COLMES: Really?

COULTER: They're taking limos around --

SCHWARTZ: Oh, Ann, you were never in their marriages --

COLMES: You've got to be kidding me."

Let me guess Coulter water carriers, Bill Clinton made her say it, right?

Coulter has stopped appearing in "panel" segments ever since she last appeared on Bill Maher's show and he told her "Now you're just making this s__t up"

And before you slam Maher, he and Coulter are friends and go clubbing together. And contrary to "Con-Dumb's" talking points, Maher is not a Dem, he's a libertarian and former Repugnant-can't until you all decided to get into everyone's bedroom and personal lives.

This Op Ed piece is Right ON - Brilliant. Ann Coulter is as distrubed and ugly as Rush Limbaugh. They are given the mega phone of Mass Media and use it to talk trash. The ignorant masses buy it ... Adolf Hitler would be impressed with all they've accomplished. Zig Heil Nazi Bitch .... or should I say Femme-Nazi per Rush Limbaugh. It's all the same s*** ...isn't it. GREAT OP ED - Thanks!!

Patrick June 28, 2007 3:48 pm (Pacific time)

Dear Anti - Conservatives, it is amazing how the rules don't apply to the left. So quickly you call foul. My concern still lies with a group living in a glass house throwing stones! Do you disagree? Then think hard about this one word "Rosie"! Sincerely, A Catholic, conservative, one nation under GOD, New Jersey Professional, that believes in strong terrorism laws, laws that protect the US citizen and not the criminals, using common sense, and doing what is morally right ...not politically correct. That includes obeying the Bible and the word of GOD.

Baerwolf June 28, 2007 3:44 pm (Pacific time)

This Coulter woman shoud be investigated by the FBI for her comments about Edwards...the fool just may do something real stupid. A sign of republican desperation.

richard June 28, 2007 3:41 pm (Pacific time)

For somone who pines for " chivalrous" days of yore when ladies and gentlemen were common fare and grownups acted so, your tirade against Ann Coter confirms you've completely embraced the new media standard you so critically chide. Has reality been completely lost in translation? Apparently for you.

Lane June 28, 2007 3:37 pm (Pacific time)

Thank you for the article, Tim. Why don't those on the right feel any responsibility for the hate speech A. Coulter sells? It isn't funny or insightful. It is mean spirited, mean and intentionally obtuse. Conservatives are attracted to this sort of resentful and hateful speech and that is indicative of the deep problems in the conservative ideology. My question is, "What on earth are these families like who pretend to speak for family values? Can you imagine living with one of these people?

Grolan June 28, 2007 3:35 pm (Pacific time)

Great article. The Nazi Bitch has got to go - she has overstayed her welcome in America. Her defenders amaze me, however. Especially those who claim everything she says is a "joke". Get a clue, you conservative sumbitches, calling hate speech a joke does not make it ok. If we said everything Hitler said and did was just a "joke", would that make the Holocaust ok? Coulter's speech is largely indistinguishable from Hitler's. Coulter is merely the most visible example of the darkest and most deranged part of America's underbelly. The good news is, people have had enough of her, and her star is falling. Along with the fortunes of the right-wingnuts in general. We'll bury them in '08, and America's latest "long national nightmare" will be over at last. (Say - how's your military adventure in Iraq going these days, wingnuts?) I do hope Coulter keeps spewing hatred though - the more she talks, the more money the Dem campaigns raise. Thanks Ann!

Bernie June 28, 2007 3:34 pm (Pacific time)

Whats a matter King, she's not a Hillary supporter so are you trying to save s from her. She doesnt meet your political agenda? Its pretty bad when media attacks media, I noticed the pot shots at Fox also. Its nice to have one tell it like is is station

JB June 28, 2007 3:33 pm (Pacific time)

United States is in a funk right now. Pundits are spending their time dividing us into "right" and "left" simply because it sells. Ann Coulter is unashamedly the worst, in my opinion. What was the saying - "United we stand, divided we fall." Thanks Ann for participating in the downfall of our country.

met June 28, 2007 3:30 pm (Pacific time)

This is probably one of the most biased articles I read in a long time

Chris June 28, 2007 3:29 pm (Pacific time)

If Ann is guilty of anything it is vocalizing what most people simple think. It is creepy to brag about laying on a slab with a dead/emblamed anyone and Edward's is a slimy trial lawyer who has made a fortune being just that. She's just making sure everyone is aware of it!

Anonymous June 28, 2007 3:28 pm (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter keep up the good work!!!! Can't wait to read you book, Maria

Bren June 28, 2007 3:28 pm (Pacific time)

No one took Coulter's speech out of context. The woman is devoid of any intellectual ability so she has to hope that her opposition "dies" instead of engaging in real political dialogue. It is an attempt to hide the truth: She's just not that bright.

charles June 28, 2007 3:28 pm (Pacific time)

The very thing that you think Ms Coulter said is being done on your web site. I read ungly bitch, nazi in your article , ugly you people need to read Shakespeare express yourself with class as Ann does in here sarcasm of those who are led by haters and non thinkers.

Joel June 28, 2007 3:26 pm (Pacific time)

Honestly, what confuses me in all of this is how personally people take these things. The slightest slant in an article and the lines become drawn. I don't believe that was the authors' intent. Regardless of party affiliation, she has crossed the line in an effort for money and ratings. Yet so many of you read this and think "ATTACK" and create a political slant. We resort to calling parties by offensive names instead of accepting that this person works for a news network and lacks credibility due to the things she says. There are people on CNN and in the New York times who do the same things and I think we should interpret this as "now is the time for the American PEOPLE to unite and stand up to crappy, sell-out journalism." Stop bickering over sides and fight for your country. We are so quick to point out the faults of others and never want to accept that someone we support could have faults of their own. Any coward can attack, it takes a brave person to own up.

Mark Sandstrom June 28, 2007 3:25 pm (Pacific time)

Coulter represents what the Republican Party represents these days. The only difference is she says it out loud. It's what the rest of her ilk is thinking and is afraid to say. Look at all her supporters. Look at her book sales. Conservatives love her. She's got it all: Good looking. Smart. Hateful. What a package.

Leon June 28, 2007 3:17 pm (Pacific time)

Oh, come on! Get off your high horse! I haven't read such inane drivel since reading John Kerry's Greatest One-Liners. Where was your false umbrage when Bill Maher opined that our vice president should have been killed by the terrorists. When he said that, liberals throughout the land nodded in agreement or howled with laughter. "That Bill Maher is a hoot!" Maher is an excellent comedian. So is Ann Coulter. The fact that Ms. Coulter is commonly referred to by lefties as a "Nazi Bitch" just proves that the left-wing movement is crude, rude, and basically too stupid to catch a joke.

Michael June 28, 2007 3:16 pm (Pacific time)

ht people think he is a liar. Thanks for you collumn, it is more important than most people image. Fox News is owned by Murdock, who is in the process of buying the Wall Street Journal with promises not to change it's journalism. Many thoughtful people believe he is lying.

Doug from CO June 28, 2007 3:16 pm (Pacific time)

This paragraph is hilarious. It says much more about Tim's inability to process reality than Coulter's venomous jokes: "And networks give time to a media whore who taunts people over the death of their child, calls the widows of 9/11 firemen in New York "Greedy Witches", and states on national television that she hopes a leading politician will die in a terrorist attack." (1) Use the word "whore" to describe A.C. at any cost. If she were ugly, you'd come up with some sort of 'her figure evokes her ugly soul' commentary, but instead she must be a whore. But you can just drop "media" in front to avoid slander. (2) Evoke the sacred firemen since nothing bad dared be said about them or their kin. Don't believe for a second that political wackos use their dead family members for their own gain all the time, be it Cindy Sheehan, Edwards, the various widows of 9/11. It's a political tactic as well as a compelling reason to be outspoken. But it is both. There's nothing immoral about commenting on the action as political tactic. (3) Twist words, drop context, and totally miss the sarcasm and commentary, instead try and fool people who are uninformed that Coulter is out there campaigning for terrorists to kill Edwards. That's clearly bogus on the face of it, so for Tim to repeat that gross misinterpretation speaks of either nefarious intent or questionable comprehension skills. Be happy or be sad, but AC has had and will have a more successful stint in the public eye than Edwards. Tim could learn from her if he ever wants to make it out of Salem.

Ed June 28, 2007 3:08 pm (Pacific time)

Bad taste is bad taste - regardless of whose party you are affiliated with. Larry King interviewing Paris is as tasteless an Ms. Coulter's venomous poison.

helend, NJ June 28, 2007 3:06 pm (Pacific time)

Michael Moore, Bill Mahr, and their likes, can spew all the hatrid they choose, and I don't ever hear you libs find fault with them, but have one conservative say something you don't like and all H--L breaks loose. Long live Free Speech and that goes for EVERYONE!

Joe June 28, 2007 3:06 pm (Pacific time)

What amazes me is how many rabidly partisan faithful can support a person who has yet to exhibit a single redeeming quality in her entire life, and many of them parade around as "Christians". I agree that the best approach for people whose lives are such a waste of resources is to ignore them, but Fox exposes itself as a company whose character is that of "amoral pandererer" in order to drive ratings and fuel hatred. It deserves to be driven out of business by legitimate competition, but the dollars flow toward tabloid media. It's a sad commentary on the state of stupidity in America, a legacy of the culture of disrespect for academia that was made common under the Reagan administration, and now the lunatics are running the asylum, flushing decades of respect for our nation down the global toilet. Education is part of the responsibility that comes with the right to vote.

Joseph Lee June 28, 2007 3:04 pm (Pacific time)

Hey, what's wrong with free speech? Ann Coulter has a right to say what she wants to say, as does Tim King. There is a difference, however: Ms. Coulter has thoughts about the big picture, has successfully parlayed conveying her thoughts into books, articles, and commentary, and has endured the derisive comments of those who don't agree with what she stands for -- the same people who never appear to be bothered with expressing what they're actually about, other than being against lots of things, including Ann Coulter. Meanwhile, Mr. King feels free to reapeat, for his own benefit alone, it would appear, terms like "Nazi Bitch" in reference to Ms. Coulter. Mr. King, if you are truly above the fray, instead of trying to merely profit by denouncing those you accuse of merly profiting, both captially and potlically, from making pronouncements, then I suggest you act as such, and not invoke emotional epithets like "Nazi", even when other sources use such terms. One is inclined to wonder, given that "projection" is a common symptom amongst those with a mental malady, that you yourself are against anyone disagreeing with you - the most Nazi-like symptom of all. To date, Ms. Coulter has used words interestingly at worst, in order to provoke thought; I would suggest that you do likewise. John Edwards is, after all, by observations accross the board, even including Jib-Jab, more than metrosexual and certainly somewhat gay in appearance and affectation - especially with multi-hundred dollar haircuts and such. That his camp chooses to, like so many in politics, quote part of what a person says, with the resultant reflection on his character in general that he is clearly not a frontrunner in leadership in any form accept among his small minority of followers that wish to build themselves up by contributing to an evangelical, contribute or else your weltanschauung will perish sort of activity mantra, well, gee, need I say more? Typical shout-em-down instead of propose anything new and inclusive type of article, Tim! You should abide by Vic June's advice, and simply ignore them... Wait! No! Then your bank account would suffer, wouldn't it.

Jason Weaver June 28, 2007 3:03 pm (Pacific time)

Ann Vulture's vitriol is repugnant. She is ruining/has ruined the values we previously upheld as a great nation; a nation that has seen its reputation go swirling down the toilet bowl. We must all fight the beast that is Ann and let news organizations know that we won't stand for her divisive hate mongering any longer.

me again June 28, 2007 3:03 pm (Pacific time)

If you want to rise above the trash of these mindless and heartless thugs learn something about the world around you. Here's a hint: the Bible is ancient political writings, poorly translated so as to be incomprehensible rubbish. Anyone who can't see this is vulnerable to the conservative right. They know this, they are using it to their own advantage 24 hours a day. Coulter's comments are not political. Conservative dialogs are not political. We're in this rut because too many people instinctively believe, without thinking clearly or actually understanding the world around them, anything that a flag/cross waving huckster in a suit says to them.

Mike June 28, 2007 3:01 pm (Pacific time)

Well, it's pretty clear that Anne is a lightning rod that whether you agree or not stirs the pot.

Jack J. June 28, 2007 3:01 pm (Pacific time)

They watch FOX because they are small minded and they only want to stay in their own personal comfort zones. From what I am reading, the author of this story recently spent months in a war zone in the middle east, I seriously doubt that any of these people hurling insults at him have. People only go nuts on the side of the right wing when they are non-veterans, inexperienced in what their political motivations really mean. Always the same; more Democrats (Liberals to the GOP) have served in uniform. Other than John McCain and Bob Dole, are there any Republicans who even served? Coulter is a big zit ready to explode, surely her days are numbered after this.

Abo June 28, 2007 3:00 pm (Pacific time)

She looks embalmed.

Steve June 28, 2007 3:00 pm (Pacific time)

I don't like Ann Coulter at all. But I think Edwards and his wife should not being using the issue to raise money. It's not presidential to be engaged in something so petty.

Mark Knott June 28, 2007 2:57 pm (Pacific time)

I find it interseting that you liberals scream about the comments that Ann makes. Yet your hateful rhetoric towards her and other conservatives is just as bad or worse. This is a case of the "pot calling the kettle black." I guess free speech is only for the lefties.

Mike June 28, 2007 2:56 pm (Pacific time)

I'm not here to defend Ann Colter but this article is so one-sided it's ridiculous. For one thing the video shown doesn't even show the 20 seconds or so of dialog leading up to this clip so it is being taken completely out of context - right or wrong. Also, wasn't there a movie out not very long ago that had someone assassinating the president? But, oh, I guess that's art. I guess the liberals in this Country only believe in free speech if it is speech that confirms there ideology.

Sean June 28, 2007 2:56 pm (Pacific time)

The real problem here is not Ann, it is FOX news, Rupert Murdoch, however is you want to slice it. There are a ton of other right wing rags out there, who do so many republicans chose to watch FOX news?

"the murder of a high level public official, John Edwards" John Edwards is a high level public official of what, exactly? Last time I checked, he was an ordinary citizen and not an official of anything. Except maybe he's the king of hairspray or something.

Facist Conservative June 28, 2007 2:50 pm (Pacific time)

"most if not all of coulter says is a joke." If Ann Coulter is a "comedian" I am going to have to take a big conservative crap. If your a republican or democrat it doesn't really matter. It is obvious this silly bitch is way out of line!

Trep June 28, 2007 2:48 pm (Pacific time)

It is people such as yourself who have stole the moral compass sir. Ann Coulter is a best selling author and commentator. The liberal left is getting a bit too big for its britches in all of this. But then most of them are spoiled brats who learned at a young age that if they cry loudly enough they usually get their way. Pathetic really.

Dudex June 28, 2007 2:48 pm (Pacific time)

Halleluiah! What are we becoming as a nation? Now we even have the bluebloods making some truly ugly statements. Let's not be taken in by this, people; after all, Anne Coulter is nothing more than the Paris Hilton of the political world. She's a NeoNazi bimbo with an Ivy League education--a standard-bearer for the New Fascist American Republic.

RY June 28, 2007 2:45 pm (Pacific time)

Nice job of creative editing of the YouTube video. How can you face the mirror every day?

Politically Tired June 28, 2007 2:43 pm (Pacific time)

Why is it that if a lefty prepares it, it is false, twisted or exaggerated, but if someone from the right does it, it is the Gospel? I am amazed that people still think what Clinton did (oral sex, where only sperm cells died) is worse than what Bush/Cheny have done (cause the deaths of thousands and thousands of humans). Amazing. Guess that explains why they worship their Neocons.

A Coulter June 28, 2007 2:38 pm (Pacific time)

The Edwards campaign is apparently still running low on donations, so this week they went back to their top fundraiser: me.

I doubled the ratings of the lowest-rated cable news show on Tuesday by agreeing to go on for a full hour to promote my new paperback version of "Godless" -- a mistake I won't make again. As I was walking to the set, minutes before airtime, it was casually mentioned to me that Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, might call in.

For the first time in recorded history, the show's host did not interrupt a guest, but let Elizabeth Edwards ramble on and on, allowing her to browbeat me for being mean to her husband.

Say, did any TV host ever surprise Al Franken, Bill Maher or Arianna Huffington with a call by the wife of someone they've made nasty remarks about? How about a call to John Edwards from the wife of a doctor he bankrupted with his junk-science lawsuits?

I think I may have tuned out at some point, so I can only speak to the first 45 minutes of Elizabeth Edwards' harangue, but it mostly consisted of utterly dishonest renditions of things I had said on my "Good Morning America" interview this week and a column I wrote four years ago. (You can't rush Edwards' "rapid response team"!) She claimed I had launched unprovoked attacks on the Edwards' dead son and called for a terrorist attack on her husband.

These are bald-faced lies, and the mainstream media knows they are lies. Yet they were repeated ad nauseam on Wednesday by The Associated Press, the AOL pop-up window, CNN, NBC and -- stunningly -- the host of the lowest-rated cable show himself, who personally told me he knew the truth.

So for those of you who haven't read any of my five best-selling books: Liberals are driven by Satan and lie constantly.

Here is my full sentence on "Good Morning America," which the media deceptively truncated, referring to a joke I told about Edwards six months ago that made liberals cry: "But about the same time, you know, Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack -- so I've learned my lesson: If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot."

The usual nut Web sites posted a zillion denunciations of my appearance on "Good Morning America" immediately after I appeared Monday morning. But it didn't occur to any of them to simply lie about what I had said. No, it took them nearly 36 hours to concoct a version of that quote that included the Edwards part, but not the Maher part, or what English language speakers call: "the point."

By tomorrow it will be: "Ann Coulter tried to kill John Edwards on 'Good Morning America'!"

Judging by his fundraising efforts so far, I gather most of you don't know who John Edwards is -- unless you're an overpriced hair dresser. He's the trial lawyer who pretended in court to channel the spirit of a handicapped fetus in front of illiterate jurors to scam tens of millions of dollars off of innocent doctors. According to The New York Times, Edwards told one jury: "She speaks to you through me ... And I have to tell you right now -- I didn't plan to talk about this -- right now I feel her. I feel her presence. She's inside me, and she's talking to you."

Let me also quote from campaign consultant Bob Shrum's book "No Excuses":

"(Kerry) was even queasier about Edwards after they met. Edwards had told Kerry he was going to share a story with him that he'd never told anyone else -- that after his son Wade had been killed, he climbed onto the slab at the funeral home, laid there and hugged his body, and promised that he'd do all he could to make life better for people, to live up to Wade's ideals of service. Kerry was stunned, not moved, because, as he told me later, Edwards had recounted the same exact story to him, almost in the exact same words, a year or two before -- and with the same preface, that he'd never shared the memory with anyone else. Kerry said he found it chilling, and he decided he couldn't pick Edwards unless he met with him again."

Apparently every time Edwards began a story about his dead son with "I've never told anyone this before," everyone on the campaign could lip-sync the story with him.

As a commentator, I bring facts like these to the attention of the American people in a lively way. Thus, for example, in a column about the Democratic candidates for president written in 2003, I pointed out that the Democrats refused to discuss the economy or the war, but had recently "discovered a surprise campaign issue: It turns out that several of them have had a death in the family."

Among several examples of Democrats talking about a death in the family on the campaign trail was this one:

John Edwards injects his son's fatal car accident into his campaign by demanding that everyone notice how he refuses to inject his son's fatal car accident into his campaign.

Edwards has talked about his son's death in a 1996 car accident on "Good Morning America," in dozens of profiles and in his new book. ("It was and is the most important fact of my life.") His 1998 Senate campaign ads featured film footage of Edwards at a learning lab he founded in honor of his son, titled "The Wade Edwards Learning Lab." He wears his son's Outward Bound pin on his suit lapel. He was going to wear it on his sleeve, until someone suggested that might be a little too "on the nose."

If you want points for not using your son's death politically, don't you have to take down all those "Ask me about my son's death in a horrific car accident" bumper stickers? Edwards is like a politician who keeps announcing that he will not use his opponent's criminal record for partisan political advantage.

Manifestly, I was not making fun of their son's death; I was making fun of John Edwards' incredibly creepy habit of invoking his son's tragic death to advance his political career -- a practice so repellant, it even made John Kerry queasy.

I'm a little tired of losers trying to raise campaign cash or TV ratings off of my coattails, particularly when they use their afflictions or bereavement schedules to try to silence the opposition. From now on, I'm attacking only serious presidential candidates, like Dennis Kucinich.

Bill June 28, 2007 2:37 pm (Pacific time)

Anne in one dirty hatefull little chick. Somewhere along the way she must have been abused. No one contains that kind of hatred unless they are mentally ill. Nice bod tho.

Donna June 28, 2007 2:37 pm (Pacific time)

What is wrong with most of you people? Joking or not, in any form, it is indecent, immorale, and in bad taste to speak disrespectful of the dead or to "wish" someone dead. I raised my own children to have respect for all humans, regardless of who they are and what they believe. Free speech is one of the greatest things about America, but this crap from the far left and far right is just PURE HATE and has ZERO value to add to any of our lives; actually, I think it errodes the progress we have made in seeing all people as equals. It makes me sick and even sicker to wonder how much worse it can be. I for one am ashamed of the messages these hateful people send, on both sides of these issues, and the impression that is left on the rest of the world. Whatever happened to being an all around decent society that gets along the best it can? This is not the best we can do as a whole and for ourselves. Hate is like a cancer and if it isn't treated, it will spread and eventually hurt us all.

iggy June 28, 2007 2:37 pm (Pacific time)

Unfortunately Coulter is only ONE of MANY of these SAME TYPES of people who make IDIOTIC comments meant to rile those of us who believe what they have to spew. For the media, it is pure GOLD in their advertising dollar pockets. They would rather keep the masses entertained than informed. Keep them dumb and happy is their motto. IF the media would GET RID of around two ahnds fulls of these creitins, from TV, Radio and newsprint, we ALL would be better off, as would the country. A few years back when someone did try to take on of the idiots on head to head, they would get slammed in the media. If the media would only do its job.

Tom C June 28, 2007 2:36 pm (Pacific time)

Raymond Penafort June 28, 2007 2:28 pm (Pacific time)

One wonders if Tim King's ignorance of what Ann Coulter actually said and his apparent blindness to the divisive and offensive remarks of leftist politicians in recent weeks is born of intentional deceitfulness or honest stupidity. Either way, his column is a waste of time and space.

Jimbo June 28, 2007 2:28 pm (Pacific time)

I am tired of Coulter, but she is usually right on the issues. She is 100% right that the double standard is alive and well in the liberal media. It is in very bad taste to solicit sympathy for their lost child on the website, where donations are collected. For that reason, it is fair game in politics to take issue with it. The media also spun what Coulter acually said about terrorist attacking Edwards. Liberals need to do more than read the headlines of their local newspaper. This columnist is really filled with hate for those with opposite views.

R June 28, 2007 2:28 pm (Pacific time)

Wow. You guys, I guess the editors of this rag, really do suppress free speech. You allow a comment from someone using the "f" word, but my comment using nothing of the sort is deleted. Thankfully you only run your little POS rag and nothing more. Freedom of the press, HAH!

(Editor's note: The "F" word slipped through, thanks for pointing it out. If it weren't for you we wouldn't know. You may notice all kinds of negative comments posted here about the story, just don't use profanity. Also, as you make these statements about Tim it is important to point out that Tim is a former Marine and he recently spent two months covering the war in Afghanistan. That is something that most reporters have not done and all of the stories were a positive reflection of the Oregon Guard, Army and Marines.)

lulz June 28, 2007 2:28 pm (Pacific time)

Haha. Americans.

Ho-Hum June 28, 2007 2:26 pm (Pacific time)

Nice editorial. Too bad people immediately have to brand the thought behind it as "conservative" or "liberal." We argue over semantics, without questioning the basic sense of decency that should provide the foundation of our intellect. Somewhere along the way Humanity got sidetracked and we became fixated on what we can have, rather than what we can achieve. Ann Coulter and the back and forth sniping about Ann Coulter provides the finest, most obvious proof about why human beings as a species are doomed to becoming extinct. I weep for the next generations--for they are the ones who truly will suffer after having this type of behavior modeled for them. When it becomes time for that next group of monsters to look after us during our autumn years, we will have no one but ourselves to blame for the barbarism we will suffer at their hands. Children learn very well from their elders.

cully June 28, 2007 2:26 pm (Pacific time)

I am truly sorry we are having this dialog, if that is what it is. I would hope I did not spend 26 years--from Vietnam to Iraq--protecting our national rights so that we can squander our 1st amendment right discussing for what is largely tripe.

k June 28, 2007 2:25 pm (Pacific time)

I am so worried about our country when no one is willing to be civil-even when they are leaving comments about an article that addresses that very point. Please rememeber whether on the left or the right there is no room for name calling or hateful comments. Just address the issues at hand and behave like rational adults

ContextIsKey June 28, 2007 2:25 pm (Pacific time)

You seemed to have pulled the video out of context. I found the entire interview online. The 20 seconds that proceeded the quote you provided make a huge difference (she was making a comparison to something a comedian had said regarding wishing Cheney had been killed and the lack of outcry of such a vile statement). Did you intend to mislead people with this snippet (since there are many other snippets that are not misleading on YouTube) or was this just some type of incompetence on your part? Just wondering.

Mike June 28, 2007 2:25 pm (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter is so hot! She just needs to talk a little less...

Nancy June 28, 2007 2:23 pm (Pacific time)

I am all about freedom of speech and allowing people to share their opinions; however, the ignorance that Ms. Coulter has exhibited makes all of her possibly legitimate views obsolete. If she would stick to the issues I don't think people would have near as big of a problem with her. Her biggest problem is that she is a hothead that shoots off her mouth instead of thinking before she speaks and it makes her sound ignorant and immature. Anyone that goes from serious political issues to the shape of Hillary Clinton's should be questioned just for sanity purposes because they just don't make sense together!

Greg Treese June 28, 2007 2:22 pm (Pacific time)

Reverend Sharpton, You influenced the media with the Imus incident. Please help us with the Coulter problem. No one should be able use the media to spread such ridiculous hate. Thank you. Greg

Tat June 28, 2007 2:22 pm (Pacific time)

AMEN... I loved this article! I am glad there are others who think she's ignorant. She makes me sad when she claims herself a "Christian", as christians we are supposed demonstrate God's love for everyone, not for the select few who happen to think and believe what we do. Shame on anyone who thinks that this is the proper way to act in regards to people who have different opinions as yourself.

brokenarrow June 28, 2007 2:21 pm (Pacific time)

Patrick Vadnais June 28, 2007 2:18 pm (Pacific time)

Typical left-wing tripe! If you have ANY journalistic ethics you'll quote Ann Coulter in context. Without context, yes, it seems she want's Edwards killed in a terrorist attack. BUT, she was referring to a comment made by "Politically Incorrect" Bill Maher. To wit: "But about the same time, you know, Bill Maher was not joking and saying he wished Dick Cheney had been killed in a terrorist attack -- so I've learned my lesson: If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot." It is all about context. Read a little beyond the end of your nose, do a little "investigative reporting" and people will believe your bona fides when you publish something. Otherwise you come off as someone who was busy doing bong hits instead of Ethics 101 in college.

escondido guy June 28, 2007 2:15 pm (Pacific time)

What a miserable piece of trash your newspaper is. Like the rest of the lame stream media liberals you cut the interview clip and left out the part of that interview that showed she was mimicing Bill Maher's comment to assassinate Dick Cheney! You and the people that believe this trash should be put away for FELONY LYING. Your kind of journalism convinces me more and more each day that the conservative movement is correct and the liberal movement is Godless. ANN COULTER FOR PRESIDENT !

I heard the interview and I am don't believe that this columnnist heard the same interview that I heard. John Edwards is willing to exploit anything in his life if it will help him finance his power lust. If he doesn't want the heat that comes with those topics he brings to the political theater in 2007 then get out of the race. As far as vitriolic discourse this artical is far more so than anything that I heard Ann Coulter say as she was sandbaged by MSNBC'S "suprise caller Mrs. Edwards"

Blue Pez Cow June 28, 2007 2:08 pm (Pacific time)

Yes, I'd be very upset if a left wing kook director released a movie that portrayed the assasination of George W. Bush. Oh, that's right. That already happened, didn't it?

Sue June 28, 2007 2:07 pm (Pacific time)

Ryan--where are the right wingers putting Ann Coulter in her place???? I consider myself a liberal (proudly) and I spoke out against what he said, which was that (and I am paraphrasing--not quoting) that fewer people would have been killed (and I think he was referring to Iraq) if Cheney had died. I would change that statement to say if he would have been locked up in prison. I do not wish the death of anyone, even a criminal like him. And by the way, Ryan, lefties are very hard on there own. We all have minds of our own and great expectations from our leaders. We are not sheep, so you will see more criticisim from us than the far right.

This sort of behavior is disgusting, and I don't care who is doing it. I wrote Maher in disgust over his comments too. The fact that any of you people can justify this behavior - by ANYONE - proves just how far America has fallen down the ladder. What, are you children that have to scream ever more horrendous insults at each other, each trying to best the other? What the hell is the matter with you people?

Dano June 28, 2007 1:54 pm (Pacific time)

Ann is a very intelligent person who says what she wants and uses the shock value to her economic advantage. Much like Howard Stern, she laughs all the way to the bank. But AntiChrist? She doesn't have enough power to be the AntiChrist. Hillary might.

"Bill Mahr did not state that Cheney should be killed, he said that a lot more people would be alive if he died. Coulter is not out of context." Yeah, parse your statements some more, Tim, doesn't mean we'll believe you. And to the respondent who said, "And, by the way, no one was defending Bill Mahr" the problem is we heard no leftists critizing him either.

Tim June 28, 2007 1:37 pm (Pacific time)

I can't believe the conservative lashings in these responses. Tim King is trying to make a valid point. It's one thing to have free speech, it's another to be a total douche bag. Trim the fat from this article and that is what you are left with. In all fairness, while I do understand that what Coulter says is in gest, she has no sympathy and no compassion. It's not a LEGAL issue, it a MORAL one. I am glad that this was on air, I am glad Youtube has errupted with this video being played over and over again so she can be a house hold name held with the stigma of just being a total bitch. You conservatives need to spend less time fighting the liberals on this one and more time finding someone to take her place in the list of conservative celebs. Because this is the kind of stuff that is going to cost you your executive branch. You guys have some really good ideas but if you first insult me, then what reason do I have to listen. (and believe me, that is a truth BOTH of our sides need to practice)

Chuck Hogan June 28, 2007 1:32 pm (Pacific time)

What ever happened to civil debate? Do we now live in a society where Ann Coulter and Bill Mahr fight over our moral compass? Even Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill could be civil to one another.

Sue June 28, 2007 1:32 pm (Pacific time)

There is a big difference in making a joke, and calling someone a tragedy whore that just lost her son. She made over the top comments regarding the widows of 9/11. There is no room for cruelty. We are all human and don't deserve a knife in our wounds. What credibility does she have for having a show on FOX "news" or having an hour guest spot on Hardball? And, by the way, no one was defending Bill Mahr. What he said was way over the top as well. However, calling the president a liar is something that can be proven.

Nope June 28, 2007 1:31 pm (Pacific time)

I am a loser and I am a rude insulting jerk, my name is Ann Coulter. (Editor's note: All profane statements will be purged)

Bill, California June 28, 2007 1:29 pm (Pacific time)

You know, who gives a rat's ass what Ann Coulter thinks. I hate to quote Paris Hilton's non-original thought from the Larry King show, but 'why even honor Coulter's comments even with acknowledgement. I doubt if the fellow wackos she is panderting to will ever vote for a Democrat, nor will she ever convince a Demo not to vote for one of her targets. If imitation is the highest form of compliment then ignoring her must be the highest form of contempt.

Joe June 28, 2007 1:28 pm (Pacific time)

Anne Coulter is not a stand up comedian, doesn't have a history of comedy, nor does she represent herself as a comedian. She is a far-right mouthpiece. She is there to be extreme to make the other neo-cons seem moderate. She's really just the Paris Hilton of political discourse. Not to be taken seriously. Much like Fox News.

Jim June 28, 2007 1:26 pm (Pacific time)

How tiring. Fox news is evil; right wingers are mean and they’re all liars. While you were creating this column by pulling what we all know is fully contextual Coulter video from the Edwards campaign web site, you forgot to include anything about Bill Mahr (assassinate Cheney) or Randi Rhoades (assassinate Bush). But it’s OK, their speech was “satire” while Coulter’s was clearly just “hateful”. Seeing how Edwards is the emptiest suit on the campaign trail, he needs Coulter. She’s his best fund raiser.

Tim King June 28, 2007 1:26 pm (Pacific time)

Bill Mahr did not state that Cheney should be killed, he said that a lot more people would be alive if he died. Coulter is not out of context.

Jackie June 28, 2007 1:25 pm (Pacific time)

Elizabeth Edwards was trying to make a point that we need to get to real issues discussion instead of making personal attacks that only inflame emotions and divide a country that should be uniting to solve a plethora of serious problems. While there should not be censorship there should be some sense sponsorship!

Todd June 28, 2007 1:24 pm (Pacific time)

Weak article, heavy leftwing bias. Freedom of speech isn't just for the left. I am not defending her comments but they are far less offensive then Michael Moore's and I think he has a right to speak publicly. Your bigger concern should be that a much larger audience is leaning right then left and her sarcastic comments are taken in their intended context by many more than the whiner victims such as yourself.

Anonymous June 28, 2007 1:21 pm (Pacific time)

Jim June 28, 2007 1:19 pm (Pacific time)

After we all pick the bodies after the conclusion of the second civil war, OR, the leftists realize that all they dish out will come back to them in THEIR FACE.

Liberals are going to make conservatives look as bad as they can and vice versa, that is because of a right we have in this country called freedom of speech......please don't tell me your views are so twisted that you are against that as well." Sorry, this is a uniquely conservative game. The "ends justify the means" mentality pervades the Right much, much more then the Left. It just sounds fair to say that both sides partake in the same low-ball tactics.

scottkilowatt June 28, 2007 1:17 pm (Pacific time)

So it's not ok to speak your mind if you're a conservative, but it's ok to call the President a liar and a Nazi and all the other horrible things that liberal's have said for 4 years. Interesting. Liberalism is a mental illiness after all.

WTH June 28, 2007 1:16 pm (Pacific time)

I find no argument with your criticism of Ann Coulter; but I would give the left (that's you) far more credibility if you would take the same high road with Michael Moore, who has written a less than half truth about Columbine, a gross fabrication in Fahrenheit 9/11; and now lies outright in Sicko. Why is is the left only looks right??

Zoltan Szabados June 28, 2007 1:16 pm (Pacific time)

I agree that Ms Coulter is very wrong, but to suggest that she be censored is outrageous. People like Letterman and leno belittle and insult the President daily, but there is no outcry calling for respect of the man and his office. The liberal media has been lying, insinuating, twisting facts for three decades, and they call it responsible journalism. Maybe it is time for the left to get something in return ( and you should be the last to argue for morality).

Bart Breen June 28, 2007 1:15 pm (Pacific time)

I have no great love for Ann Coulter so that's not the basis of this comment, but, last I checked Chris Matthews show was on MSNBC. I'm sure Fox is more of a red flag for the bulls in the audience you're catering too, but then, that would show you to be borrowing a play from the Coulter playbook, wouldn't it?

J Senich June 28, 2007 1:12 pm (Pacific time)

Your bias is showing Mr. King. I think your statement that "...the luxury ride of American supremacy is over" says it all for Mr. King. Thankfully, your wishing and hoping won't make it so.

Travis June 28, 2007 1:12 pm (Pacific time)

Whaaa, Whaaa, Whaaa!

Chuck June 28, 2007 1:11 pm (Pacific time)

I have never read such an irresponsible piece from a supposed professional journalist in my life. First, all of Coulter's comments were taken out of context. You only use a select few of her words to convict her -- none of the comments you refer to have the meaning you are seeking if you listen to the whole context. She absolutely did not say that she wishes Edwards would die in a terrorist attack (though your beloved Bill Mahrer did say just that about a sitting Vice President!). Do your homework, and especially do not commit the "crime" you accuse her of. You are far more misleading and inaccurate than Ann Coulter ever has been. AND, for a journalist -- one who should hold the First Amendment in high regard -- you certainly show no regard for her freedom of speech. The idiot fringes of the Left have been far more ascerbic and mean-spirited than Ms. Coulter for many, many years. They (and you) just have trouble when the Right have finally found a small forum from which to exercise their same rights. "Though I may not agree with what you say, I will defend to the death your right to say it." (Patrick Henry)

Sue June 28, 2007 1:08 pm (Pacific time)

Tim, I couldn't agree with your editorial any more. Wonderful job! I also want to add that Elizabeth Edwards really moved me. She was able to stand up for someone she loves and for the hate directed at her deceased son with such grace and dignity. I have to admit that I would not have been able to control my emotions and reply with a clear, level head like she did. I would be proud to have her serve as first lady of this (soon to be again) wonderful country.

mark l June 28, 2007 1:07 pm (Pacific time)

ann has full right to make fun of anybody and aspecialy those who are in power

A Coulter Hater June 28, 2007 1:04 pm (Pacific time)

Ann Coulter is an animal.

Sean June 28, 2007 1:02 pm (Pacific time)

Your "she hopes a leading politician will die in a terrorist attack" Was completely out of context, it was a commentary on Bill Mahr getting away with saying he wished Cheney would have died in 9/11.

Kevin June 28, 2007 1:01 pm (Pacific time)

It is not that I support Ann, I really don't, but come on....both sides do the exact same thing for their own agenda so deal with it and stop crying. Liberals are going to make conservatives look as bad as they can and vice versa, that is because of a right we have in this country called freedom of speech......please don't tell me your views are so twisted that you are against that as well.

Mark from NH June 28, 2007 12:59 pm (Pacific time)

Tim King, the liberal fog in which you live prevented you from noticing that Ann Coulter's remarks were less about John Edwards and more of a dig at Bill Maher for saying the same thing about Dick Cheney weeks earlier. Tell me, did you write an op-ed piece about Bill Maher and moral decay when that happened.

Zach June 28, 2007 12:59 pm (Pacific time)

Good piece. But Charlie Dean was the brother of Gov. Howard Dean, who was killed in Vietnam and whom Gov. Dean has referenced throughout his political career. The Edwards' son Wade was killed in a car crash in 1996. Coulter has made remarks about both politicians' family loss, which is what Elizabeth Edwards was referring to.

Kevin June 28, 2007 12:58 pm (Pacific time)

"If she was homely and overweight, would she have this stage?" Once upon a time there was a guy named Micheal Moore, you may have heard of him. By the way, Ann Coulter is not even attractive and John Edwards is another unrealistic bleeding heart liberal....Shouldn't he be shot? Your article is very confusing to me. Obviously you are a confused liberal like John Edwards that thinks that the whole world can have their cake and eat it too. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Phillip June 28, 2007 12:55 pm (Pacific time)

You seem to have a problem with people having the right to free speech. Its ok for you to talk about coulter like this but its not ok for her. Hmmm sounds like you have come down to her level.

margaret Davis June 28, 2007 12:54 pm (Pacific time)

Before you start whapping with your empty purse, watch the whole video--she was being sarcastic about what a leftie had said.

Steve June 28, 2007 12:53 pm (Pacific time)

Right on, this witch who appears to have just hopped out of someone's bed with her lil black cocktail dress, needs to be supressed. She is the anti-America. Much like an anti christ.

aman June 28, 2007 12:50 pm (Pacific time)

Obviously, mr. tim king is anti-conservative. first off, most if not all of coulter says is a joke. so, for you and other anti-conservatives to take her words out of context just to 'prove' that your view is correct...is simply wrong. john edwards and his wife are making money off of coulter. they use coulter to make money. so who is the real whore? john edwards? his wife? tim king?

Vic June 28, 2007 12:49 pm (Pacific time)

Amen, Brother ! Like Pat Robertson calling for the assasination of Chavez, or suggesting that Hurricane Katrina was sent to punish homosexuals...I have to wonder why these nutcases get any press at all. Ignore them ! Great article , Tim.
