(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State rising senior centerfielder Dani Gilmore will suit up for the Philippine National Softball Team this summer beginning with the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX in Irvine, Calif. July 7-13.

That tournament will serve as the start of a three-month training period for the Blu Girls in the United States as they prepare for the 17th Asia Games in Incheon, South Korea from Sept. 19 - Oct. 4.

The World Cup of Softball is being contested at Bill Barber Park in Irvine and includes teams from the United States, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.

Each country will play every other over six days from July 7-12. After that round robin, seeds will be determined for the final day on July 13 to determine matchups for games that decide the champion and order of finish.

A career .336 hitter, Gilmore is coming off her most successful season at OSU. A 2014 NFCA All-Pacific Region First Team selection and All-Pac-12 First Team honoree, she hit .407, slugged .700 and led the Beavers with 38 runs, 11 doubles, eight home runs and 40 RBI.

Gilmore’s batting average is the fourth best in school single-season history and her slugging percentage is second. She also finished the season with a .491 on-base percentage and continued her strong defensive career, as she made just two errors while starting all 49 games.

In three years, Gilmore has etched her name throughout OSU’s career record book. She sits fourth in runs (124), fifth in batting average (.336), second in walks (98) and is tied for eighth in home runs (25).

Gilmore is eligible to play for the Philippines because her mother, Concepcion, was born and raised in Manila. The Philippines are using the World Cup of Softball IX as a tryout for the national team that will compete at those aforementioned Asian Games in Incheon later this year.

OSU will also be represented at the World Cup of Softball on Team USA, as head coach Laura Berg is on staff with the Red, White and Blue for the second consecutive summer.

The United States’ games against Canada, Japan, Puerto Rico and Chinese Taipei (July 10-12) will all be televised on ESPN and/or ESPN2 as will the matchup between the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds on July 13.

The General Tire World Cup is sanctioned by the International Softball Federation.
