Anna-Team: Go to Jail or Agitate Against Pranab

Anna should either ask his Team to go to jail or should launch agitation for clearing Pranab from corruption Charges.

(BANGALURO, India) - The credibility of Anna Hazare is at stake if he allows the matter of alleged corruption against the likely President of India, to go unaddressed. Unlike the US President, the President of India is not a real Chief Executive, rather only Head of State, and ought to be above controversies. Anna and the President of India are highly esteemed by Indians, hence both should be above board.

The entire prominent national media report that India against Corruption (Team Anna) levelled charges that - "[There are serious allegations of corruption against Pranab Mukherjee. It will be wrong if he becomes the President of India. There should be an impartial probe into these charges]" – is not an ordinary matter and Anna personally should intervene and do the following:-

(1)- Especially after mid 2011 anti-corruption agitation, Anna has become the most revered figure in India and is considered crusader and true heir of Mahatma Gandhi as far probity in public life is considered. Therefore millions of people came in this agitation on his call for anti – corruption Jan Lokpal Bill and Indians still have trust & faith in Anna.

(2)- At the same time unlike US president, the President of India is not a real Chief Executive rather only the constitutional Head of the State (the Prime Minister is the real CEO in India). Hence like British Queen (the present Head of British State), the President of India (who has immunity from any prosecution under Article 361 of Constitution) too ought to be above any controversy.

(3)- Therefore Anna and President of India who are highly esteemed by Indians, both should be above board. It is a matter of life and death for the Indians for the simple reason that:-

(i)- If presently Anna let this matter go but these charges are again levelled by Team-Anna once Pranab becomes President of India (which is almost certain) then it will seriously damage the constitutional – institutional frame-work of India and its sanctity.

(ii)- If Anna lets this matter go then the credibility of Anna (who is still in agitation mode to get India free from corruption) will be finished for ever.

(4)- Therefore if Anna believes that Team-Anna has levelled baseless charges against ruling coalition Presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee then Anna should immediately ask his Team to go to jail for such highly irresponsible & defamatory offence.

(5)- But if Anna believes that Team-Anna has levelled charges of corruption against Pranab with full sense of responsibility then Anna, without any further delay, should launch country wide agitation with demand that Pranab Mukherjee’s name should be cleared from these corruption Charges before he contests election for the President of India.

Author Hem Raj Jain is a native of State of Rajasthan in India and of age 65 years and an Indian citizen. Hem is a graduate mechanical engineer (section A&B from The Institute of Engineers) and was in employment for 17 years and left as construction manager after working for blue chip companies in India. Hem was the proprietor of a small scale industry and practiced law for ten years in subordinate & high courts of the State of Rajasthan in India. Hem was also the president of a trade union in the capital of India, Delhi.

Hem was also a member and senior office bearer (State Secretary) of a national political party and contested election for member of parliament in 1998 on behalf of this national political party. Hem also did some research on economics with especial interest in monetary economics. As a politician, Hem braved persecution in order to protect the majesty of law and preferred to go to jail in 2006 for 2 months for contempt of court for making a written complaint (without publishing it any where) with documentary proof to various constitutional authorities (of executive ,legislative and higher judiciary) against judicial corruption & highhandedness. Hem was also the editor of a weekly Hindi news paper (a mouth piece of his political party) and still writes letters on politico - economical issues, which have been published for the last 6 years in national and international media too.
