(LONDON) - Many Salem-News.com readers are already familiar with the efforts to aid the Samouni family of Gaza; one that was heavily targeted during Israel's 'Cast Lead' attack over the winter of 2008 and 2009.

The Samouni clan is the focus but they are only one family in Gaza where 1-7 million human beings live in an open air prison surrounded by walls and fences and an Israeli patrolled sea.

Only recently has the border at Rafah, Egypt partially opened; it opens the door to hope and that is one of the main guiding lights in a society so darkened by oppression and occupation.

You will want to stay dialed into http://Trade-Not-Aid.net - After five years of an illegal and brutal blockade of Gaza, a plan is finally announced to replace aid with trade so that the Palestinian people can shed their charitable dependency status in Gaza and live in dignity by developing their own economy.

This is the bottom line; charity and human aid efforts matter, but the ability to self-sustain will build quality of life and security for everyone in the region.

So much is needed, so much has been destroyed, and while Gaza tries to find a way to rebuild, people here are suffering from massive levels of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and illegal weapons like white phosphorous and others left thousands of men, women and children scarred, disfigured, dismembered.

Just a sampling of our past reports that detail far more about the Samouni family:

Sean Flynn was a photojournalist in Vietnam, taken captive in 1970 in Cambodia and never seen again.
