The event celebrates International Surfing Day.
(NEWPORT, Ore. ) - Time to go surfing, Oregon style.
On Saturday, Newport's chapter of the Surfrider Foundation together with the chapters in Portland and Siuslaw (Florence) will be holding the 6th Annual Otter Rock 'n' Roll Surf Contest and Beach Cleanup Challenge, to be held at Otter Rock between Newport and Depoe Bay.
The weather forecast for the Oregon Coast on Saturday is partly cloudy and 63 degrees.
International Surfing Day, celebrates the sport of surfing and helps raise awareness about issues facing the oceans, waves, and beaches.
The event is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is an 18 and under surf contest, and open to all surfers, beginners, and surf enthusiasts.
Event pre-registration is $25 at www.otterrockandroll.com. Beach registration is $35 and closes at 8:00 a.m.
All participants will receive an event t-shirt and great prizes from local sponsors.
The event will also include special beach games and activities throughout the day, including the special beach cleanup challenge, where youth can compete for different prizes through various stewardship activities.
No experience necessary and lessons.
