(ALBANY, Ore. ) - The Albany Parks and Recreation Department is offering a variety of events this summer to keep you, or your child busy. From sports camps, to learning to paddle down the Willamette River, there is something for every age group. Albany Parks & Recreation Department is offering mountain biking clinics. Instructor is Dan Coyle, outdoor enthusiast. This skills clinic is appropriate for riders who are simply interested in mountain biking or have some experience and would like to move to an intermediate or advanced level. The class will cover simple bike mechanics and fit, proper uphill and downhill riding techniques, and judging and navigating terrain. Riders will develop skills for effective use of brakes, distribution of body weight at speed, riding technical terrain, shifting gears to optimize efficiency, and group riding etiquette: · Family Mountain Biking Clinic: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28. · Open Mountain Biking Clinic: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19. Cost is $40 for Albany residents or $52 for those who live outside the Albany city limits for the women’s clinic or the open clinic. Family Clinic (for a family of 4) is $100 /$130, or adults $40 / $52 for those who live outside the Albany city limits, and children (9-14 yrs) $20/$26. Albany Parks & Recreation Department is offering a variety of camps to keep children and youth active this summer. Camps are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise stated. All camps will be held at Maple Lawn, 1950 Salem Avenue SE. · Caution: Kids Constructing (ages 7-11): June 30 - July 2. Cost is $97 for Albany residents or $129 for participants who live outside of the city limits. · Land, Air, and H2O (ages 7-11): July 7-9. $97 /$129 · Kids in the Kitchen (ages 7-11): July 14 - 16. $97/$129 · Fantastic Four-Legged Friends (ages 5-7): Thursday and Friday, July 17 - 18. $79/$105 · Adventure Is Out There (ages 7-11): July 21 - 23. $97/$129 · Let the Drama Begin (ages 8 and up): 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, July 21 - 25. North Albany Middle School. $113/$150 · Musical Moments (ages 7-11): July 28 - 30. $97/$129 · Master Chef Juniors (ages 7-11): August 4 - 6. $97/$129 · We’re All Mad Here (ages 7-11): August 11 - 13. $97/$129 · Hometown Heroes (ages 5-7): Thursday and Friday, August 14 - 15. $79/$105 Albany Parks & Recreation Department is offering a class in stand-up paddle-boarding at Hyak Park on the Willamette River. This basic introduction to stand-up paddle boarding is developed with the beginner in mind and will expose all participants to sufficient skills and knowledge to enjoy the sport in a calm, flat-water setting. The one-day course will cover launching and landing, board and paddle control, stance and balance, basic strokes, and safety and rescue. Participants must be age 16 and older, and strong swimmers. Outdoor enthusiast Brett Gallagher is the instructor with more than 10 years of outdoor teaching experience. The course is offered on June 30, July 14, or August 25. Class time is 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Cost is $75 per session, equipment included. Albany Parks & Recreation Department is offering the Lil’ Kickers Soccer program this summer for children ages 1 ½ - 6 years of age. The 8-week sports and movement program focuses on child development and introduces them to the skills of soccer. Classes last 50 minutes. All classes will be held at Maple Lawn School. 1950 Salem Avenue SE. No classes are scheduled July 3 or July 5. · Bunnies (ages 18-24 months): 10:30 - 11:20 a.m. Thursdays, June 26-August 21 or Saturdays, June 28 - August 23. Parent participation required. Cost is $96 for Albany residents or $127 for participants who live outside the Albany city limits. · Thumpers (ages 2-3): 9:30 - 10:20 a.m. Thursdays, June 26 - August 21 or Saturday, June 28 - August 23. Parent participation required. $96/$127 · Cottontails (ages 2 ½- 3 ½): 9:30 - 10:20 a.m. Thursdays, June 26 - August 21. Parent interactive. $104/$138 · Hoppers (ages 3-4): 9:30 - 10:20 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. Thursdays, June 26 - August 21 or 9:30 - 10:20 a.m. Saturdays, June 28 - August 23. $104/$138 · Jackrabbits (ages 3-4 with previous experience): 10:30 - 11:20 a.m. Thursdays, June 26 - August 21 or Saturdays, June 28 - August 23. $104/$138 · Micro 4-5 (ages 4-5): 10:30 - 11:20 a.m. Thursdays, June 26 - August 21 or 11:30 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. Saturdays, June 28 - August 23. $104/$138 · Big Feet (ages 5-6 with no previous experience):11:30 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. Thursdays, June 26 - August 21 or Saturdays, June 28 - August 23. $104/$138 · Skills Institute 5-6 (ages 5-6): 11:30 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. Thursdays, June 26 - August 21. $104/$138 Fun in the Park: Sponsored by the Takena Kiwanis Club returns on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. - noon, through June and July in neighborhood parks throughout Albany.
