Salem Armed Stand-Off Ends Peacefully

As Salem-News.com was first to report, a stand-off in Salem Thursday afternoon ended peacefully when the man emerged from his apartment after Salem Police SWAT team members showed up on the scene.

(SALEM, Ore. ) - As Salem-News.com was first to report, a stand-off in Salem Thursday afternoon ended peacefully when the man emerged from his apartment after Salem Police SWAT team members showed up on the scene.

The incident occurred in the 2300 block of Coral Ave NE at the Lancaster Commons Apartment complex. Police were trying to arrest 33-year-old Jarad Joseph Smith of Salem on an outstanding warrant.

He at first did not answer the door, and police believed that Smith maybe armed, so they evacuated nearby units, and tried to get Smith to come out peacefully. After a period of time, police called in the SWAT team and once on scene, Smith emerged from the apartment, un-armed, and was taken into custody.

Smith is being held a the Marion County Jail on the Felony Burglary Warrant.
