Oregon Pitching Duo Competing for Spot on Team USA Roster

(EUGENE, Ore. ) - Former Oregon pitcher Jessica Moore and current hurler Cheridan Hawkins are two of 24 elite players competing this week in Lynchburg, Va., for a spot on this summer’s USA Softball roster.

The USA Softball Women’s National Team selection camp takes place this week with exhibition games in Virginia and Ohio starting June 13.

The final 17-player roster will be announced on June 22.

Team USA will play in four different tournaments this summer, starting with the World Cup of Softball from July 7 through July 13 in Irvine, Calif. Japan, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Chinese Taipei and Venezuela will also compete. The event, which will be held at Deanna Manning Stadium and Bill Barber Park, will be team USA’s lone West Coast stop this summer.

The squad will then visit Surrey, British Columbia to compete in the Canadian Open Fastpitch International tournament running July 15 to July 21.

The national team will head overseas for Italian Softball Week in Azzano, Italy from August 6 to August 10 and the summer competition schedule ends with the ISF Women’s World Championships from August 12 through August 24 in Haarlem, Netherlands.

Hawkins is joined by nine current collegians at the tryouts, including five other Pac-12 team members. Hawkins, Alabama outfielder Haylie McCleney, Florida infielder Kelsey Stewart and Stanford catcher Jessica Plaza are the youngest players at the national team camp.
