Stolen Truck Used to Steal Fireworks Found in SalemSalem-News.com
(SALEM) - A truck used to steal an estimated $500,000 worth of fireworks from a storage facility this weekend in Clackamas has been found in Salem. The 1997, 26-foot-long white box truck was found abandoned in the 3400 block of Brady Court NE around 6:30 AM, Salem police said. An employee who works at a nearby business spotted the truck and alerted police. The stolen fireworks belong to retailer American Promotional Events in Clackamas. They were stolen Saturday night from a storage facility in Clackamas County, said Jim Strovink, a detective with the Clackamas County Sheriff`s Office. The thieves took a `large quantity of potentially dangerous explosive materials" after they stole an unmarked delivery truck owned by furniture-retailer Levitz Furniture, he said. The truck was seen traveling southbound on I-205 at around 6:00 AM, Strovink said. When Salem police arrived at location where the truck was left, they opened the cargo door and discovered some of the fireworks, Birr said. He said his office would continue to investigate the stolen fireworks because not all of the explosives have been recovered. `A large quantity of the stolen fireworks were taken from the truck," Strovink said. So far, police have no leads as to who may have stolen the truck and fireworks. Anyone with information is urged to call the Clackamas County Sheriff`s Office at (503) 655-8211.
