(JAMESTOWN, RI) - We live in a nation where almost everything is now a "state secret", and so looking for news about the US in foreign news sources is often much more informative than the mainstream US corporate news outlets. Two very recent stories surfaced in the foreign press, with not a whiff of information in the US, are illustrative of this point. Last week it was disclosed in a foreign newspaper that the Pentagon built a replica of Iran's nuclear installation deep underground in the US, and then proceeded to blow it up with a new ever more powerful breed of "bunker busting" bomb. We know that the new bunker buster cost $3.5 million for each bomb and we know the pentagon spent about half a billion dollars to develop it. We do not know the cost of building a replica of an underground nuclear site. Wouldn't you think stories like this are worthy of least a mention in US mainstream media? The second story also not covered in the US was about the US Congress, who this week very quietly decided to give Israel an additional half billion dollars to further develop its missile system. Now this half a billion is not part of the $3.1 billion that has already been given to Israel this year. This half billion is outside of, and not part of the 3.1 billion. In fact no one really knows how much aid is given to Israel because it comes in so many "secret "ways. Our new Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, announced that military aid to Israel will not be cut even though our own military budget is being cut due to shortage of revenue. Interesting to note that a foreign military appears to have more leverage within the US Congress than our own military. While all this additional aid is lavishly thrown at a foreign nation by our Congress, it on the other hand, is slashing Medicare, and a wide variety of social programs for the neediest of Americans. It is amazing what you find about the US when you surf the net and look at foreign news sources. I wonder why US media outlets shy away from such "newsworthy" stories. It is because their might be some outrage that Congress is so generous to foreign nations, while slashing programs for the needy at home?
