(SALEM) - Seventeen Houck Middle School students and their parents had been working hard over the past several months, raising money for a drama trip to New York City.

On Friday, the group learned that the travel company handling their arrangements went bankrupt, and all of the hard earned $35,000 was gone.

`We had a lot of teary eyes on Friday," organizer Tiffany Carstense said.

However, the group is refusing to give-up hope on leaving for the Big Apple on Fathers Day.

They held two car wash fundraisers the weekend and brought in nearly $6,000 towards the trip.

More is still needed however.

If you can help, donations need to be made by Friday, either by calling Carstense at (503) 871-7188, or mailing it to Houck Middle School, 1155 Connecticut Ave SE, Salem, Oregon 97301.

Carstense said she hopes to have an account set-up with the school's business partner Washington Mutual on Monday.
