(CLEVELAND) - Sport can be fun and breathtaking and, sadly, lifetaking. Every safeguard should be employed by athletes to ensure that young people won't see their athletic inclinations lead to a path of physical destruction. In Luke's first poem, Texas Rangers & Huston Astros MLB Teams Hit A Home Run, we learn about college baseball player Johnathan Taylor who suffered a broken neck in an outfield collision with his teammate Zach Cone, who received a broken arm. Luke also educates us about Buddy Lamothe who was left paralyzed after a diving accident. As Luke says they, "are no time soon going to make big league history, Well, at least not in homeruns, batting average, hits or steals, Both temporally have parts of their bodies that cannot feel". In Friday Night Lights (A Tribute To David Edwards), Luke pays homage to D.B. David Edwards who played football in Texas and received a broken neck in what would be his last play. Luke again suggests that sports should not be so over the top that they lead to disaster: "This is the game of football it’s not the war in a place called Iraq, The worst that could ever come of this is a contusion on your back". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Texas Rangers & Houston Astros MLB Teams Hit A Home RunCollege baseball players Johnathan Taylor & Buddy Lamothe, Taylor had a collision in the outfield with teammate Zach Cone, Some say it is a symbolic gesture by the Rangers and Astros, Doctors, doctors, that’s why it’s called the practice of medicine, Billion dollar business, multi-million dollar contracts, the pay days, Prepare? To fit, adapt, qualify for a particular purpose, make ready, By Luke Easter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Friday Night Lights (A Tribute To David Edwards)Football in Texas is like Basketball in the Hoosier State, His neck was broken as high school foes reached for the pass, Occurring during a playoff game, November in the year of our Lord 2003, A television director and producer in the stands was a man named Peter Berg, Maybe there wasn’t enough lying, back stabbing, cheating, going insane, David Edwards had been stricken with pneumonia sometime late last year, Slipping into an irreversible coma this Monday his life started to cease, Saturday March 1st,2008 the would be star is to become the age of 21, Oops! Maybe the message has been lost for the new 2009 season, The new principal wanted money raised by boosters for a jumbo-tron, Friday Night Lights and a late start for the show, season number four, Originally about a player’s enthusiasm, while eventually cost his life, Yes! In this country there is a dividing line of color, that is a true fact, What happened & why, at the start the series was critically acclaimed, By Luke Easter _____________________________________________
Luke Easter is a poet who writes about things that are very close to the heart of Salem-News.com. Another former U.S. Marine, Luke heals the world with an approach that reaches people on a different level, one known for centuries, yet too often forgotten in the one we live in. We live in a world of social & economic injustice. The main reason for founding America in the first place was to relieve the oppression of the King of England. Patrick Henry said it best, “give me liberty or give me death.” And yet, all too often death seems to be the only way out. Why is there such a high suicide rate especially among teens, in the land of the free & the home of the brave? What makes headlines? Good news? Ha! More depressing stories than anything else. I feel poetry takes an edge off the hurt of bad news while still delivering it but in a, “glitzy” sort of way. Giving a different perspective. Kind of like slap in the face as opposed to a knife in the back. At least with the slap you’ll live to see another day and you will know whom it’s from. I wasn’t here for the beginning of the world but at 59, I just might be here for the end. Even though it’s still a knife, rhyme poetry helps to dull the blade. And that’s my job.
