Jul-31-2014 05:18TweetFollow @OregonNews Oregon National Guard Hoopla and Bob's Hamburgers a Slam Dunk for SalemKevin Hays Salem-News.comUPDATE: We now have the COMPLETE Saturday ONG Hoopla Schedule at the end of this story.
(SALEM, Ore. ) - Workers in and around the Oregon State Capitol Mall may smell something they haven't smelled in a long, long, time. That smell will be coming from just in front of the Capitol steps at the Bob's Hamburgers booth, which is part of this year's Oregon National Guard Hoopla. State workers, and everyone can enjoy a Salem classic starting at 11:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. The booth will be open on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Sunday from 9:00 to 5:00 p.m. Thousands of basketball players and fans will descend upon Oregon's Capitol City starting on Thursday through Sunday for the 16th annual Oregon National Guard Hoopla. Streets in front of, and around the Oregon State Capitol Building are transformed into basketball courts for the annual 3-on-3 event. Organizers and the City of Salem say they expect some 800 teams and 700 volunteers to take part in this years event. When Salem-News.com was the first to announce the return of Bob’s to the Oregon State Fair this year by Gina Dankenbring, who managed a Salem Bob’s Restaurant for five years, and has owned Golden Grill Concessions for the past 13 years, nobody could have imaged the kind of responses that came pouring in, let alone the long lines at the Marion County Fair, which in part, helped raise fair attendance. The event is FREE and open to the public. The booth, will be selling the same food they did at the Marion County Fair, including: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, double cheeseburgers, Big Brutes, fries, and Kid's Meals. They will also be selling bottles of Bob's famous secret sauce during the Hoopla. The best news is that 100 percent of the net sales from the bottled secret sauce as well as a percentage of the gross food sales will be donated directly to Bob Corey's non profit Chemeketa scholarship fund. Dankenbring said. ONG Salem Hoopla Weather Forecast from Salem-News.com: Each day of the tournament, temperatures in Salem are expected to be at or over 90 degrees. Which means court temperatures could be even warmer. Players, teams, parents, and visitors should make sure to bring plenty of extra water, PowerAde or Gatorade, to help keep players and fans hydrated during and after games. According to Web M.D. heat stress occurs when sweat can't evaporate fast enough to keep the body sufficiently cool. Symptoms include muscle cramps and headache. You can prevent heat stress during and after games by drinking plenty of fluids, taking frequent rest breaks. Fluids: Drink at least half a liter of fluids in the two hours before exercising. During your sport, aim to drink about 200 ml every 20 minutes or so. Choose a specially formulated sports drink if your sporting event goes for more than an hour. After the game, drink around half a liter of water.
