(SALEM) - Salem-News.com has confirmed that two Salem Albertsons store will be closing within the next two months.

The stores are scheudled to close their doors on August 31st, but the closings may not happen until sometime in September.

Albertsons spokeswoman Donna Eggers says the company will also be closing two stores in Portland, one in Beaverton, six in Washington state, and one in Utah.

“The closure of these stores in Oregon does NOT signal the beginning of an exit from this market by Albertsons. These closures will enable Albertsons to operate more efficiently and effectively in the ever-changing retail environment” Eggers said.

Eggers added that some Albertsons employees are organized and represented by labor unions.

“We will follow the applicable union contract to make offers to transfer where applicable. The Company strives to be able to transfer most of the displaced associates, with little or no layoffs” Eggers said.

The Keizer Albertsons is NOT affected by the closings.

The stores set to close are:

Salem: Store #558 – 2025 Lancaster N.E. and Store #561 – 4450 Commercial S.E.

Store #502 – 1350 N.E. 122nd Avenue, Portland. The closest Albertsons to that location is their store at 12102 Southeast Division Street, which is two miles away.

Store #509 – 4140 S.E. 82nd Avenue, Portland (82nd and Holgate) – (slated to close at the end of Sept.) The closest Albertsons to that location is our store at 12102 Southeast Division Street, which is less than three miles away.

Store #567 – 1295 N.W. 185th and Walker – Beaverton. The closest Albertsons to that location is our store at 7500 Southwest Baseline Road in Hillsboro, which is less than three miles away.

To Kelli: I worked at the Albertsons in Bullhead up until it closed. It was the funnest job I've ever had. I and (just about) everyone else went out of their way to cater effeciently and respectfully to everyone of our customers. In the end what did we get? Debased by (Editor: do NOT use profanity here) snowbirds complaining about service when their the ones clogging the streets AND the checkout lines in the winter. I'm sorry you had a bad experience but don't blame the store closing on poor service because there wasn't any. Albertson Jr. wanted a nice fat check to line his pockets for a few weeks while he blew the rest of his money on cocaine and gay porn.

I Think the way employees were treated was pittiful when the store closures were announced, the employees were the last to know and the bumping process was'nt fair! The store director showed favortism to management and gave them union jobs . I don't think the Keizer store is going to last long,if Albertsons treats there loyal employees like this, just imagine how they treat there customers.

I live in central California and we used to have an Albertson's in town. The customer service became so bad people just didn't come back. How often have you stood in line unnecessarily at an Albertson's? I visited Bullhead City, AZ last winter and the service was just as lousy. Next thing you know, that store also closed.

this sucks i work at the south salem store i have been with albertson for 10 years and i think this bumping thing is tuuiped i think if albertsons south had lower prices we would still be in open i know customers that haver shoped at the south salem store sence its been there LIKE I SAID THE WHOLE THING SUCKS THANK U JEREMY SOUTH SALEM STORE 561

I definitely agree with Darcy. Winco is much lower on prices than Albertsons. I would love them to move to Keizer. I have to drive to SE Salem, now but it's still worth the trip. Albertson's was a great store to shop in the past, but it's prices have gone through the roof.

Ima Outajob July 29, 2006 8:19 pm (Pacific time)

Donna Eggers statements about NOT affecting the Keizer store are not true. The closures of both stores allows employees from these stores to bump employees from their positions at the Keizer store that have been with the company longer. I know,I work at one of the closing stores.Nobody feels good about bumping someone else out of their job either.

Alice July 28, 2006 10:45 am (Pacific time)

It's pretty inconvenient for Salem. Both stores are closing down, leaving only the Keizer store which is miles from people living in South Salem or even North Salem. Darcy, try Winco. You will find the prices quite a bit lower than Albertsons, plus you don't have to buy in huge quantities like at Costco. But the prices are pretty comparable to Costco.

Darcy Smith July 27, 2006 11:35 pm (Pacific time)

This sucks I only shop at Albertsons. I guess I will have to start shopping at Costco again and just buy in really big bulk.
