(SALEM, Ore. ) - Phones at Salem area Dairy Queen's have been ringing off the hook from media, trying to get quotes over a tweet sent out by Baylor coach Art Briles, who on Monday took issue with the fact that his quarterback, Bryce Perry, was not among those invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York City.

Petty finished seventh in Heisman voting, falling one spot short of an invite to watch Jameis Winston accept the honor.

Briles was doing some early politicking for his quarterback, touting him as one of the top Heisman candidates this year at Big 12 Media Day on Monday.

Problem is, Petty’s is not a household name among college football fans, like Oregon QB Marcus Mariota, who is also one of the top contenders for the Heisman, is.

Briles, took to Twitter on why Petty has a better chance to win the Heisman this year: “Go to a Dairy Queen in Salem, Ore…” and they’ve heard of Petty.

Of the five other Dairy Queen locations in the Salem area, for the record, none of them have even heard of Perry, until there phone's started ringing from media all over the country asking about him.

"We all think it was kind of stupid for all these reporters from across the U.S. to call us thinking we had heard of some quarterback from a college in Texas, when most of us don't even know the names of the quarterbacks at Oregon and Oregon State," a manager of a Salem Dairy Queen said. "From ESPN, to newspapers, it was just plain out of control, and all of the stores were bombarded with questions.

However, the Oregonian reported online that none of the Dairy Queen's in Salem had even heard of Bryce Perry -- great reporting by the largest newspaper in Oregon once again -- NOT! If the reporter, who made the calls during his lame radio sports show, would have got away from his coffee, doughnuts, and phone long enough, and did some REAL reporting he could have found the photo we did. Gezzz.

Petty’s breakout 2013 season — 4,200 yards, 32 touchdowns, three interceptions — placed him on the national radar for the Heisman Trophy this year.

The latest Bovada odds have Petty at 12/1 to win the Heisman, put him behind only Winston (4/1), Marcus Mariota (11/2), Braxton Miller (7/1) and Nick Marshall (10/1).
