Killing Field Since 1948...

Resistance to ethnic cleansing in Sri Lanka was met with Genocide.

Hunger strike takes place from 22 July to 12 August.
Hunger strike takes place from 22 July to 12 August.

(LONDON) - Since 1948, the Tamil people of Sri Lanka have been suffering under the stranglehold of extreme prejudice. The British colonized Ceylon as it was previously known, and then when they allowed the people to resume control of their own affairs, the harmony that had previously existed between the Tamils and the majority Sinhalese Buddhist community was gone.

In its place, the spirit of Sinhala religious and political domination became central. Tamils soon were watching the government legislate against them; a long list of acts were passed that allowed the Buddhists to erode the rights of Tamils. Their very language was threatened.

For thirty years, the Tamils attempted to negotiate with the government, utilizing a Gandhi style non-violent form of peace activism. It got them nowhere, so eventually the Tamils had to defend themselves and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were formed to protect those who lived in the north, in the part of Sri Lanka that had been occupied by Tamils for thousands of years. A thirty-year attempt to wage peace turned to violence as the only means of preserving the Tamil culture and people.

This resistance was met with a bloody Genocide that was Sri Lanka's answer toward Tamil independence. Now it is time for Sri Lanka to be accountable for its crimes, the event in London is geared toward accomplishing that goal.

Your comments make me laugh. So help us understand how we have tolerated interference and what impact it has had on us. We have done nothing to comply with the hypocratic western country demands. Our allies support us fully. The UN is doing nothing. Everytime some white man requests sri lankans to do something we tell them to shove it where the sun dont shine with a big smile. We will govern ourselves in a manner that suits us. We dont care what you think or say. Why dont you try to arrest the so called criminals - some of them are US citizens.I dare you to try.

Editor: Wow, are you banging your fist as you write that?  For the record, there can easily be big problems for war crime suspects when it comes to international travel, I am sure you know about that.  Second, I would ask you.... if you could go back in time, would you have tried to remove the Tamil rights and eradicate their culture?  Is it not possible to just work toward a day when Tamil Eelam can exist?  And by the way, this is Tim King, feel free to use your own name if you are so confident about this.

Absolutely none of your requests will be honored. All of you dreamers can keep on dreaming :) - the Govt of Sri Lanka will never entertain ludicrous demands and we the people of sri lanka will not tolerate any interference in our internal affairs.

Editor: Fully totalitarian in nature at all times you guys eh?  I suppose your machete comes out next?  At least you are willing to show people your truly ugly and dangerous nature.  That piece of land isn't yours by some divine right, it belongs to everyone who lives there or desires to live there.  You WILL tolerate interference in your internal affairs because your government is criminal and incapable of governing itself. Criminals don't get to sit in their little sand pit and murder people, you do not have the right to violating international law like a pack of animals and then tell the rest of us it isn't our business, the truth is that it is more our business than yours or anyone with the GoSL.
