(SALEM) - Salem police and the Salem Fire Department are investigating what they call a suspicious fire that occurred around 6:30 AM Saturday at the Dashmesh Darbar Sikh Temple in South Salem.

The Temple, located at 860 Oakhill Ave SE, is the former home of the Good Shepard Lutheran Church

Investigators say it appears that the fire, which started on a fence, may have been intentionally set.

The fire spread to nearby dry grass, but a spokesman for Salem Fire says crews were quickly able to extinguish the fire through a rapid attack.

Investigators say they will remain at the church, until the fire’s exact cause can be determined.

So far police have made no arrests.

If you have any information on the fire, call Salem police at (503) 588-6123.

Editor's note... When this story was initially published, the building was only referred to as the Good Shepard Lutheran Church, instead of the Dashmesh Darbar Sikh Temple. We apologize for the mistake.
