Jefferson Firefighters Extinguish Four Alarm Grass Fire

The fire did not burn anything of value, but came close to spreading to a standing wheat field.

(JEFFERSON, Ore.) - Jefferson Firefighters were called to a brush fire near the Jefferson-Scio Drive and Greensbridge Rd at 2:55 Sunday afternoon.

Anne-Marie Penge with the Jefferson Fire District, says approximately a 1/4 acre of brush and grass was burning when firefighters arrived.

"The fire grew, due to increased wind speeds but was under control in 53 minutes," Penge said.

"The fire did not burn anything of value, but came close to spreading to a standing wheat field," according to Assistant Chief Scott Shepherd of the Jefferson Fire District.

No individuals were in the area when firefighters arrived. Turner Fire District and Scio Fire District also responded.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office was on scene.
