Oregon Soldier's Family Warning of Burial Scam

The family is NOT requesting monetary assistance with Cooper's burial.

(DALLAS, Ore. ) - The family of Cpl. Kory Wiens has discovered more than one local business in Dallas, Ore. was contacted yesterday by someone asking for monetary donations on their behalf.

An individual unknown to the Wiens family has made telephone calls asking for assistance with burial costs for Kory's search dog, Cooper.

The alleged fraudulant activity has been reported to the Charitable Organizations Section of the Oregon Attorney General's Office for a preliminary investigation.

The family is not requesting monetary assistance with Cooper's burial.

As a member of an Army unit, Cooper will be rendered proper military funeral honors.

The only monetary donations the Wiens family has requested is for the purpose of customizing Kory's 1972 Dodge "Swinger" in his honor for charitable causes.

Donations to the Kory Wiens Memorial Fund are only being accepted at Washington Federal Savings Bank.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at the Faith Evangelical Free Church, 2290 E Ellendale Ave., Dallas, Ore.

A procession to the graveside service at Salt Creek Cemetery will immediately follow the memorial service.

After the graveside service, family and friends are welcome to return to the Faith Evangelical Free Church for a reception.
