Marion County Fair Gets Underway in Salem (VIDEO)

Salem-News.com's Sean King is also a reporter for NW Teen News, which airs on Salem's UHF Channel-52. Here are some of his discoveries from the first day of the Marion County Fair.

(SALEM) - The roller coaster, the food booths, cool FFA animals, and never forget the entertainment. It's that time of year again, and the 2006 Marion County Fair kicked off under warm, sunny skies Friday, providing a family event that has something for everyone.

In the video report posted below, you will meet Oregon teens who never miss the Marion County Fair, and adults who share the same enthusiasm.

And we learn that the fair is more than just fun and games. All kinds of public safety agencies set up booths and displays each year and they hope that people take away valuable information that may help them stay safe. They included the Marion County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation, and Marion County Fire.

A junior firefighter physical safety training course was set up, giving youngsters and teens a chance to see how the brave men and women of the fire service train, and it is hard work.

The Northwest Teen News show that airs on Salem's UHF Channel-52, KWVT, was broadcast live from the patio of the Jackman Long building on the State Fairgrounds. This is a compilation of some of the reports that aired in the 6:00 PM program Friday evening.

The Marion County Fairgrounds are located at Silverton Road and 17th St. NE in Salem, Oregon.
