(SALEM, Ore.) - The Salem Fire Department is hosting a grand opening ceremony at Fire Station 11, 1970 Orchard Heights Rd NW, on July 14th 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend the fourth and final open house to tour the new facility, meet firefighters and see a few of the new apparatus that have been purchased through the bond, Salem's Interim Fire Chief Mike Niblock said.

A brief opening ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. We look forward to hearing a few words from Mayor Taylor and Councilor Clem.

Members of the Salem Professional Pipes & Drums will also make an appearance and play a patriotic piece during the ceremony. In lieu of a traditional ribbon-cutting, a symbolic uncoupling of two fire hoses will commemorate the opening of the fire station. Refreshments will be served and plastic fire hats, stickers, and temporary SFD tattoos will be available for the kids. Deputy Fire Marshals will be in attendance to answer questions and provide helpful information in regards to safety precautions you can take at home.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members will be on hand to share information about their program as well.
