Jul-03-2009 18:14TweetFollow @OregonNews Tylenol, Liver Destruction & DeathDr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.comI have heard that the drug manufactures lobby to congress is very strong and very generous with its money (bribes??). Did Vioxx, FDA approved, cause several thousand deaths??
(MOLALLA, Ore.) - The FDA has the most miserable record of monitoring for safe and unsafe medicines in the world. Vioxx and thalidomide come to mind but they also approved tobacco (as being harmless???). The lethal toxicity of Tylenol has been known since at least 1975 when it appeared in the most prominent Pharmacology book by Goodman & Gilman. The Chinese took note of this and it has been illegal to import Tylenol into China for many years. There have been repeated stories in medical journals of Tylenol’s toxicity and lethality frequently since 1975. It was in Time magazine December 20, 2006. I guess nobody at the FDA reads medical articles OR TIME. About 200 million patients use Tylenol each year. The advertisements say “It won’t cause stomach bleeding”. Well no, but Tylenol severely damages the liver (lethally), the heart causing infarcts and congestive heart failure, strokes and severe blood clotting problems. There are certainly more. Whether it kills only 200 patients per year, I don’t know right now. About 27% of Tylenol poisoned patients die without a liver transplant which costs at least $50,000. Besides that Tylenol toxicity is responsible for about 56,000 ER visits and 100,000 calls to poison control centers each year. Tylenol is everywhere. It by itself is in 100 over the counter forms and about 600 products in everything but drain cleaner which doesn’t kill as many patients. Aspirin was the first minor pain killer. It was discovered, manufactured and sold by Bayer Pharmaceuticals since about 1880. They had the controlling patents. Other companies tried to horn in which resulted in several “me too” type products. Most of them were too toxic to be used. TYLENOL WAS THE LEAST TOXIC but with its known toxicity from at least 1975 how did it manage to stay in drug stores? I have heard that the drug manufactures lobby to congress is very strong and very generous with its money (bribes??). Did Vioxx, FDA approved, cause several thousand deaths?? IT IS ABOUT TIME OUR CONGRESS DID SOMETHING. HOW MANY WERE ON SOMEBODIES PAYROLL? HOW MANY TOOK TYLENOL?? IT’S DANGEROUS WITH ALCOHOL. ********************************************************** Do you have a a question, comment, or story to share with Dr. Leveque?

Has Dr. Leveque ever been to China? Obviously not -- or at least not in the past 20 years. I linked to this story in my analysis of tylenol usage and it's ready availability in China. Read about it here: http://web.me.com/superacidjax/Sparkling_Chaos/Main_Page/Entries/2009/12/4_Tylenol_in_China_-_ignorance_confronted..html

The most given drug for minor pain relief in hospitals is Tylenol, A pain Tylenol when needed, and I am talking about 1-2 in a 24 hr period, is safe.....One should not consume alcohol with any kind of drugs. period. and always take only as recommended. Even Coke will kill you insides, eventually....

follow recommended doses and medications are safe. Even idiots that try to overdose on tylenol do not suffer lasting harm. they know it and are just attention seeking
Editor: Dave, maybe you didn't read the figures and maybe you wouldn't agree under any conditions, but you need to step out of the shadows and study the research. In the meanwhile, I think people are a lot more interested in the actual story than your rather strange statement.

How perfect. Let's bash Tylenol and promote cannabis. I am very pro cannabis but this article isn't very subtle. Aren't all pain killers, sleep aids, antihistamines and most other medicines dangerous when mixed with alcohol?
