(TILLAMOOK, Ore. ) - Two people from California who have been missing in Oregon after being last seen June 8th were found Sunday afternoon off Highway 26 in Clatsop County.

Clatsop County Sheriffs Office, Oregon State Police and the Clatsop County Medical Examiner are on scene conducting an investigation.

On Sunday, David Schwartz, age 52, and Cheryl Gibbs, age 61, were confirmed deceased in the maroon 2005 Toyota Corolla they were believed to be traveling in.

According to Clatsop County Sheriff Tom Bergin, the vehicle was spotted by Civil Air Patrol at approximately 1:45 PM as part of a multi-agency ground and air search in Tillamook and Clatsop counties.

After a vehicle was spotted from the air, a Clatsop County Sheriff's Deputy responded to the scene ten minutes later and found it about 20 yards off Highway 26 in an area not visible from the highway.

Oregon State Police troopers and a crash re-constructionist from the Astoria Area Command office responded to the scene to investigate with the assistance of Clatsop County Sheriff's Office and Dr. Joanne Stefanelli, Clatsop County Medical Examiner.

Investigators will be on scene for a couple more hours.

Sheriff Bergin stated that following the confirmed sightings in Tillamook County, Clatsop County Search and Rescue members began checking logging roads Sunday morning at 9:00 AM.

Working in conjunction with search and rescue personnel from Tillamook and Yamhill counties, as well as Civil Air Patrol, the search effort continued until this afternoon's sighting.

No further information is available for release until investigators clear the scene and can provide more details.

It seems the car would have been visible if anyone had peered over the edge but police merely looked for visble indications on the road such as skid marks and may have been confused between a car reported to be AT the roadside and a car reported to be OVER THE EDGE of the road. It seems strange for police to be alleging that driver fell asleep when witness uses word 'veered'. Were brake lights lit? This would show driver was awake.
