(SALEM, Ore.) - A fatal, weather related traffic crash at 9:30 AM this morning on South Spring water Road left one driver dead. It happened one-quarter-of-a-mile east of Bakers ferry Road, in Oregon City.

Investigators say a 1982 red Toyota pick-up truck was eastbound on S. Spring water road, east of Bakers ferry road and lost control on the icy pavement. The pick-up truck fished tailed and traveled directly into the westbound lane of travel.

That is where is struck a much larger, full size 1995, Ford, F-350 Pick-up truck in the westbound lane. The estimated speed of both vehicles at the time of impact was 35 mph.

The driver of the Toyota Pick-up truck was extricated from the vehicle by Clackamas Fire District personnel; then transported from the scene to Oregon Health Sciences University. This driver died at the Hospital and family notifications are pending.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Jim Strovink says the driver of the other pick-up truck was not injured but was described as being very emotional at the scene with the resulting, unavoidable chain of events. No citations are issued, and this is considered a weather related type of unfortunate fatal crash. Spring water Road remains closed in the vicinity of this fatal crash and the road conditions remain hazardous. Motorists are encouraged not to operate their motor vehicles in this east county area while the freezing weather conditions persist.
