(SALEM, Ore.) - Deputies say a Salem man is behind bars on serious charges involving the homicidal death of a person whose body was discovered Saturday.

Lt. Sheila Lorance with the Marion County Sheriff's Office, says that during the course of a narcotics investigation on January 22nd at 11:40 a.m., Detectives and Marion County SWAT served a search warrant at 4761 Indiana Avenue NE.

"Information was obtained that led investigators to believe a homicide had occurred inside the residence on Indiana," Lorance said.

"Throughout the course of the investigation, a body was located in another neighborhood in NE Salem. The deceased has not been positively identified at this time and the investigation is ongoing."

She says the Marion County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit, with the assistance of Woodburn, Keizer, Salem, Oregon State Police, Hubbard, Stayton, Aumsville and Silverton Police Department have arrested 28-year old Manuel Garibay of Salem on charges of Murder, Unlawful use of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and abuse of a corpse.

The victim's information will be provided after family members have been notified, Lorance added.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of members from the Marion County Homicide Assault Response Team.

The Marion County District Attorneys Office has assumed control of the case.
