(SHERIDAN, Ore.) - The Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a logging accident early Thursday morning that occurred 7 miles up the Mill Creek Mainline on Weyerhaeuser property near Sheridan Oregon. 44-year old Dan Fults of Albany was the logging shovel driver, and was apparently attempting to cross a wooden bridge when the large tractor belonging to Rice Logging fell into Mill Creek. Mr. Fults was pronounced dead at the scene. Polk County was alerted at 4:30 a.m., and crews from the Sheridan Fire District and the Newberg Water Rescue team were dispatched to the scene to assist with the recovery effort. Police say that at this time the shovel is still in Mill Creek and Weyerhaeuser crews are determining the best method to remove the shovel from the creek. The investigation continues into the exact cause of the accident. All photos courtesy: Polk County Sheriff's Office.
