(CANBY) - Two children were injured Saturday morning after the van they were riding in lost control on an icy stretch of Highway 170 about two miles south of Canby and collided with a pickup.

Oregon State Police spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings says at approximately 8:55 AM, a 2000 Dodge Caravan driven by 39-year-old Gina Lannin, from Canby, was eastbound on Highway 170 near milepost 12.

While negotiating a slight left-hand curve, Lannin lost control on an icy section of two lane highway and slid broadside into the westbound lane.

The passenger side of the van was struck by the front of a westbound 2004 Ford F350 pickup towing a horse trailer.

After impact, the van came to rest in a field along the highway and the pickup stopped partially off the highway.

Lannin was using safety restraints and was not injured.

Her van contained two children seated in the middle bench seat in appropriate child safety seats.

The driver's daughter, 5-year-old Jenevive Lannin, was seriously injured and transported by AMR ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital Hastings said.

The other child, 4-year-old Chanelle Myers, was transported by REACH air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital.

Her injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

The Ford pickup's driver, 28-year-old Kimberly Hayes, from Molalla, was using safety restraints and was not injured.

Both vehicle's airbags deployed.

The horse in the trailer was not injured.

Citizens traveling in the area also assisted prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
