(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - A 13-year old girl was struck by an oncoming pickup truck this morning at 8:40 AM while she was attempting to cross Southeast Highway 212, west of the controlled intersection at SE Armstrong Circle, investigators with the Clackamas Sheriff's Office report.

Spokesman Jim Strovink with the Clackamas Sheriff says the 13-year old is identified as Margret Kvach, who resides with her family on SE Davidoff Court in Clackamas.

"Kvach was walking to meet her school bus at the time of this incident; she attends classes at Sunrise Middle School in Clackamas."

An investigating Clackamas County Sheriff's Patrol deputy reports that the eastbound lane of travel on SE Hwy 212 was stopped for the traffic light at SE Armstrong Circle at the time of accident; Margret Kvach was walking west along the south side shoulder of the highway.

"Margaret Kvach began to cross the highway -- and stepped out from between two vehicles that had been stopped for the traffic light."

Margret apparently did not see an approaching westbound 1987 GMC pickup truck as she stepped in front of it; the truck was estimated to be traveling at approximately 35 mph.

Strovink says evidence at the scene indicates the operator of the pickup applied the brakes prior to impact, as soon as he saw Margret Kvach step out from between two large trucks waiting for traffic to proceed in the eastbound lane.

The driver of the pickup is identified as 64-year old Richard Hays, a resident of Sandy, Oregon. No citations were issued.

Margret Kvach was transported from the scene by American Medical Response to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. She is reportedly suffering from a crushed femur in her right leg; undetermined back injuries; a concussion; and multiple abrasions. Strovink says that fortunately, none of these injuries appear to be life-threatening.
