Be Aware! Northbound I-5 Exit 282 to Close For Four Months

ODOT plans to hold an open house in April to inform the public about the paving work on the project.

(WILSONVILLE) - The Oregon Department of Transportation will close northbound Interstate 5 Charbonneau District Exit 282 for four months beginning in mid- to late January through late May.

ODOT will post a detour route, directing northbound traffic headed to the Charbonneau area to use the Donald-Aurora Exit 278.

The closure of Exit 282 is part of a project that began in September to remove and replace the two I-5 bridges over Route 551, located just south of Exit 282 between the Charbonneau District and the Baldock Rest Area.

Crews have been constructing a temporary bypass in the freeway median between the two bridges to accommodate traffic and allow I-5 to remain open throughout construction.

Most work is taking place at night, with only periodic, temporary lane closures on I-5.

Traffic will be shifted to the median bypass at the same time that Exit 282 is closed.

In the second phase of the project, beginning in March 2007, ODOT will repave I-5, and repair and re-tension guardrail along a 22-mile section of highway from the Baldock Rest Area (located south of Wilsonville near Exit 282) to the north Salem city limits.

Guardrail work will begin in March, with paving work scheduled to begin in May.

Paving and guardrail work is expected to finish in October 2007.

The project is necessary to ensure the continued safety and traffic flow along the I-5 corridor and Route 551.

More information about the project is available online at www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION2/Charbonneau.shtml or by calling (503) 276-5413 or emailing rgahin@jlainvolve.com.

All work schedules depend upon weather conditions.
