(BEAVERTON) - Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue is now seeing a multitude of incidents involving individuals falling due to slick sideways and parking lots, and sledding accidents involving children home from school. At 11:00 AM, the crew from Station 67 (downtown Beaverton) was dispatched to a trauma call involving a 14-year-old male who hit his head against a tree while sledding on the grounds of the LDS Church at 162nd and Sexton Mountain Road. The teenager was transported to a local hospital with a serious (non-life threatening) head injury. TVF&R advises the following safety tips when sledding: Wear a helmet when sledding to help avoid a head injury Never sled behind a moving vehicle; if the vehicle stops suddenly, the sled has the potential to slide into the vehicle injuring riders. Conduct sledding activities on school grounds, parks and other off-road locations. Use extreme caution when playing in cul-de-sacs and side streets - keep an eye out for cars and ATV vehicles.
