(TEHRAN / DUBLIN) - Former Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon was pronounced dead at the age of 85 after eight year in a coma.

According to reports, Sharon's health condition began to deteriorate on January 1, after he suffered kidney problems following a surgery.

Sharon who was a former army general served as Israel's prime minister from 2001 to 2006.

He was responsible for war crimes against Palestinians and Lebanese; known particularly for his role in using the Israeli Defence Forces to protect Christian Lebanese militia who literally exterminated refugees in the Sabra Shatila refugee camp.
