Pat Robertson is No Man of God: What a Jerk

Typical statements from a typical numskull in American politics.

Pat Robertson is as non-Christian like as you can get.
Pat Robertson is as non-Christian like as you can get.

(SALEM, Ore.) - "A calamity of cataclysmic proportions" - That is one description of the massive destruction in Haiti following a series of earthquakes that left half of this place leveled.

The first thing I said to our team today in regard to the deadly earthquake in Haiti, was that "the scams would begin right away," and "some right wing crazy would proclaim that the people deserved it."[1]

That thought came half an hour before the Oregon AG sent out the first scam warning. About an hour later, Pat Robertson said it happened in Haiti because the people there made a pact with the devil, what a bastard. Oh, and of course in his view, the French were involved.

CBN was the station running the comments. (I previously stated "FOX News" but we are running an AP clip from YouTube originating from CBN, I wanted to make this clarification.)

As people are lying under millions of tons of broken rubble in the form of collapsed buildings and suffering, Robertson talked about how, "It may be a blessing in disguise".

Suggesting that it could lead to a massive rebuilding of that country, his statements were made as worldwide rescue and relief efforts are still mobilizing to travel to Haiti.

Sitting across from the ever so predictable Robertson, Bill Horan, President of Operation Blessing, looked a bit surprised and said Robertson had a, "Pretty optimistic attitude".

What Robertson has done is on a par with Jerry Falwell's suggestion that gay people are suffering AIDS because God wants them to:

"AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals."[2]

He is the same as the weirdo freaks from Topeka, Kansas who protest U.S. military funerals because "the country supports homosexuality" only as a national spokesman with the attention of millions, Falwell's is even more lowly than the disgraceful antics of the Westboro Baptist Church since he affects far more people[3].

Robertson and Falwell are two peas in a pod. This is what Pat Robertson specifically said:

"Cristy, Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and the people might not like to talk about it, but they were under the heel of the French, you know, Napoleon the Third and whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the devil, they said 'we will serve you if you get us free from the French,' true story. So the devil said 'OK it's a deal' and they kicked the French out, the Haitians revolted and got themselves free, but ever since they have been cursed by one thing after another, desperately poor. Robertson said the adjacent Dominican Republic is "prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc' Haiti is full of poverty."

"I'm optimistic that out of this tragedy, something good of this may come."

People are dead and days and even weeks will pass with human beings trapped and alive and subjected to the worst kind of Hell any person ever may dare imagine. And there is Pat Robertson, the guy who tells you he represents God, in his pretty suit talking about how this wrath of nature might not be such a bad thing for Haiti.

I find it interesting that a member of the first group to say that African-Americans are owed no debt over the inhumanity their race suffered, thinks it is just and correct for the great great great great great grandchildren of people who allegedly "made a deal with the devil" to pay off the debts of their ancestors.

Will people ever figure out how misled they are by people like Robertson. I say he is no Christian at all, just a damned poser and not a good one at that. It's all a charade. In my heart I do not believe that God, who is kind and loving, is any fan of Pat Robertson.

sabrina January 22, 2011 8:37 am (Pacific time)

Pat Robertson has to be the most royalest ass that ever lived

sabrina January 22, 2011 8:32 am (Pacific time)

He is so mean. He uses the 700 club to spread his hate against others who don't agree with him. He is a selfish jerk. Not even a day after the diasaster in haiti happened he said it was because they were witch doctors out there like they deserved that horrible tragedy. He complains about people who don't even bother him just because they didn't agree with him. He is a closeminded, fundelmentalist, jackass who needs to keep to himself and shutup. I hate that show, it's gets to be annoying because every morning I get woke up by his hate because sombody in my family loves that show and I don't understand why. I am really not sure if god is real or not, but if he is I think he be mad at pat for taking christianity and using it as a excuse to condemn homosexuals, people of other faiths, and and people who like tarot cards and astrology.

THIS IS rOBERTSON AT THE CARD TABLE LIVE ON T.V.;'SOMEONE IS BEING RELEIVED OF THIER WALLET IN IN OREGON;THE LORD IS DELIVERING YOU OF YOU FOOD MONEY AND YOU ARE HEALED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Hans Whole-Bean January 18, 2010 1:00 pm (Pacific time)

Can this genius Pat Robertson explain why Armenia has so many earthquakes? Not only is Armenia solidly Christian, but has been the first nation to convert to Christianity. I'm waiting, Pat.

Barlow January 16, 2010 9:54 pm (Pacific time)

Natalie that is an excellent post. I wonder if others actually understand how it applies? For example last November's elections allowed for a massive political swing to take place in the governor's races for Virginia and New Jersey. Now this Tuesday in Massachussetts an election for the senate seat held by Ted Kennedy is up. Last election Kennedy won it 98 to 2 (there was no republican candidate). It was expected that the current democratic candidate would win by a 40+% margin. Democrats in this state account for a 3 to 1 margin over republicans. It appears that the race will be much closer, so even if the republican comes within 15% points it will be a republican victory. As evidenced by recent reportings with Obama and Clinton going to this state to help with the campaign this weekend one can see democrats are dispirited/panicked and republicans are fielding better and more motivated candidates all over the country. Massachusettes is the most liberal state in the nation, so this election is no doubt reflecting on Obama's policies. The "virtuous circle" is speading quickly.

Natalie January 16, 2010 10:26 am (Pacific time)

Tim I saw this quote the other day and I must admit with the economy getting worse and Obama's failure to keep his campaign promises, I guess I'm starting to agree with it:

"A virtuous circle is ‘a complex of events that reinforces itself through a feedback loop.’ One timely example is the current climate for Republicans in the midterm elections: good political news encourages stronger candidates to emerge, which dispirits Democrats and encourages desperation, which prompts better candidates to emerge, which dispirits Democrats…"

Tim King: Natalie, good points, it is alarming at times!

Justice January 16, 2010 7:31 am (Pacific time)

I just want to say that gay rights are the only thing of any real importance to me. I like to be with men, and since I am gay I don't mind admitting that my greatest hope is to someday see the law change real mfing hard! I'm sure that most of you don't know that the average 'neocon' as you call us, is actually a closet gay. We aren't the kind of gays who admit it or advertise it, we do it where nobody is looking so that we can still go to church on Sunday and look down our noses at the rest of the world. Republicans rule!

Raynard Burgess January 16, 2010 5:14 am (Pacific time)

Jim Baker,Jimmy Swaggart,Pat Robinson,Jerry Falwell, if you want god so bad and blame everything bad on the devil, well what has happened is that the lowlife pieces of sh45 pray on peoples fears of a loving god. GOD listen to me take all of these filth back where your at because we the people of this world does not need them thank you

UrKiddingRight January 15, 2010 7:31 pm (Pacific time)

I'm a bit perplexed about the point of this article. So Tim King really doesn't like Pat Robertson. Who's Pat Robertson? A rather inconsequential figure who's getting pretty old (and its showing), who pretty much causes 90% of Christians to cringe whenever he opens his mouth (which they hear only because Pat just happens to have enough $ to have his own TV station). Pat Roberson is pretty irrelevant to almost everything and everyone these days(except of course those relatively few -- mostly homebound -- folks who watch the 'nice man' on TV and those like, apparently, Tim King, who hate him so much that they make a story out of a another dumb thing he says instead of finding a real story. You can do better than this Tim King. Write about something meaningful -- and that would not include Pat Robertson's comments on Haiti.

Natalie January 15, 2010 4:24 pm (Pacific time)

"Well you are living proof that low IQ's don't stop people from doing things." -Was it supposed to be a compliment? Ha-ha. Can't quite figure it out.

Tim King: This character just leaves really insulting garbage, I should be more patient but people who start out low get treated the same way.  Compliment or insult, honestly a good question!

Anonymous January 15, 2010 3:09 pm (Pacific time)

Editor I would compare my background and current socio-economic status with you, or anyone on this site, anytime. How about...

Editor: This is Tim King,  you know all of my background data is listed on the staff page.  You don't even use a name, go bother somebody else with your insulting rants

Dukester January 15, 2010 11:56 am (Pacific time)

We have a far more serious problem here than being distracted too long on the Haitians, the problem is the evil white SOB's who hog their wealth.  I look forward to a revolution and we will line them up and chop off their heads, starting with Bush.

Anonymous January 15, 2010 8:44 am (Pacific time)

"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brush fires in people's minds - Samuel Adams" The above quote is why the current majority will soon be thrown into the appropriate location. The actor Danny Glover just went on record blaming the earthquake on the failure of dealing with global warming at Copenhagen. Now that is the mentality I expect from the real demons that the devil created. May they all soon know God's wrath, say in Massachusetts...elsewhere. Haiti is a lost cause, set up some healthcare facilities modeled after the current democratic legislation and see how that works out!

Thomas January 15, 2010 8:10 am (Pacific time)

The below post by Michael Kellum demonstrates how people who have incomplete info jump to conclusions. Media Matters and organizations of similar ilk are well known for their misleading propaganda and count on others to shill for them and their anti-American agenda. Fortunately they have no real impact except for those already predisposed towards far left garbage. They are the ones WC Fields was really talking about in terms of "a sucker born every minute." I guarantee those people are not very successful in life and have a very limited educational background coupled with low IQ's.

Editor: Well you are living proof that low IQ's don't stop people from doing things.

douglas benson January 15, 2010 6:36 am (Pacific time)

Michael K how can you defend this vulture . Sure these vultures are sending aid with strings attached people in desperation look for answers to the un-explainable and here come the vultures to give them false hope .The magical space daddy is here to save you from death and hopelessness .Thier "humanitarian aid" would never be given if they were not allowed to preach thier fairy tales along with it . These missionaries of god have worked with big comp. to steal land rights ect from natives all over the world . What a joke fi something good happens its a blessing from god if something bad happens its the wrath of god So riddle me this if god is unchanging how do you go from kill all the gentiles to love everybody ? Of course only love them if they follow your "godly " rules to live by otherwise they only deserve hate and bigotry .

Nick Jones January 14, 2010 8:02 pm (Pacific time)

This is plain ridiculous. This man, Rob Patterson, has slandered and basically spit all over several smaller demographics of people. Let me list of a few of them. Homosexuals, saying several things like how homosexual sex is like sex with ducks. Lets also not forget half the racism , especially with his extreme views on Islam and Islamic religious beliefs. And now this?! People need to understand that this guy is a racist, a homophobic, and a sexist freak, using religion as his shield. Listen, Pat, You aren't spreading words of kidness or words of faith. Your spreading propaganda, and that is it!

Natalie January 14, 2010 6:04 pm (Pacific time)

I'll give PR credit for OB organization fundraising. I saw that too. Still... If prosperity is a blessing and any disaster is a curse, how do we explain what happened to Job? You know, the one from the Bible? He was blameless after all and lost everything including all his children. What about the 1988 earthquake in christian Armenia that took at least 25 thousand lives and left half a million homeless? How about feminine of 1933? People turned into animals to the point that some ate their own or somebody's children. How do we explain 6 dead children in a christian family during that single year? What did they do wrong? Is it possible that prosperity could lead to a curse and during tough times we dig deep for our humaneness? Jesus was asked once too about the blind man: who sinned he or his parents. Well, His answer was "neither this man nor his parents"... A lot to think about...

Jane January 14, 2010 5:20 pm (Pacific time)

Pat Robertson is a mental midget.

Michael Kellem January 14, 2010 2:39 pm (Pacific time)

The modern cynic chaffs at any suggestion that there may be a connection between historical realities and unseen spiritual influences, or as the Bible calls it God's "blessing or cursing." Although most people are very comfortable with the notion that God blesses people, we are not at all comforted with the terrifying prospect that Almighty God might also curse. The overwhelming majority of Americans believe in God and /or moral causality. Eastern religions call it Karma, but Christians call it God's Providence. I wonder if the reason that so many hate Pat is because he expressed what many Americans don't want to face- the moral and spiritual dimension of our lives. As long as everything is going well we live as if we are never going to die. Then crisis hits and death slaps us in the face. Rather than humbling ourselves and searching our hearts like the Pilgrims did, we lash out at God and anyone who dares insinuate Him into our lives. What the Robertson bashers left out is that finally, and with great compassion and concern in his voice, Pat said, "They need to have, and we need to pray for them, a great turning to God and out of this tragedy I am optimistic that some good thing may come, but right now we are helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable." Agree or disagree with what Pat said, it was well within the bounds of historic Christian theology. Maybe that's the real problem after all. Man is offended by the fact that he is not God. They resent God's Providence. A simple reading of the Bible shows how God uses natural disasters to further his purposes. Earthquakes, floods, famine, locusts, etc. they're all there, but man hates it. Rather than humbly acknowledging that God's ways are not our ways, man rails against and accuses God. The last thing they will do is cry out for his mercy in Jesus Christ. So Pat is an easy target. But before you judge him perhaps you ought to know that the whole time he was making these comments they had the number on their screen for their viewers to give to their humanitarian relief organization Operation Blessing. OB has already been at work in Haiti long before the earthquake. Operation Blessing has touched the lives of more than 209.3 million people in 105 countries and all 50 states, providing goods and services valued at more than $1.7 billion. So, once you have surpassed that, then you will be in a better place to judge Pat Robertson. In the meantime, let's do what Pat is doing and bless the poor people of Haiti.

Annie Coppack/humorist January 14, 2010 2:17 pm (Pacific time)

That 82nd AB commenter is absolutely full of BS, only a moron would say those things.

douglas benson January 14, 2010 12:09 pm (Pacific time)

And here come the vultures [missionaries of god] preying on the desperation of those they wish to convert to thier view of god . There must be a new jesus ,a new god who delights in the suffering of others .All I see is a religion of dominance, hate and greed . They should call themselves the church of Satan .

Josh A. January 14, 2010 10:54 am (Pacific time)

Maybe an earthquake will spontaneously open up the earth and swallow up this preacher. "You up there, God? I don't ask for much, but these false prophets need the ax."

Marianne Skolek January 14, 2010 4:06 am (Pacific time)

As disgusting as Robertson is, listen to what Rush Limbaugh had to say about the earthquake in Haiti. They both should be ashamed of themselves -- and so should the people who give them the time of day.

Steve January 13, 2010 10:37 pm (Pacific time)

I think God should waste this Old Toad

jim January 13, 2010 8:30 pm (Pacific time)

People who contribute to Robertson, Hinn, Coontz and the rest of these con artists can best be described by that great American philosopher P. T. Barnum who said "There's a sucker born every minute" I think that the Neanderthals who made stone tools 50,000 years ago had more intelligence than the brain dead who give money to these shysters.

far left January 13, 2010 8:05 pm (Pacific time)

your probably from the far left anyway.

ridiculous. January 13, 2010 8:04 pm (Pacific time)

It is not wrong to see good out of bad. why are you judging him? isnt that Gods work?

Tim King: Do you really want me to answer that?

David Wehbe January 13, 2010 6:54 pm (Pacific time)

to 82ABNDIV: The second you openned your mouth and said Fox is not radical is when I realized you are more of douche bad than Pat himself. The rubbish in your article is ...irrelevant.

82nd ABN DIV January 13, 2010 6:07 pm (Pacific time)

L McCrell who said I was talking about white republicans? It appears you are stereotyping conservatives who account for around 40% of all voters whereas liberals are about 20%. I have a high regard for the Peace Corp but they are limited as to what they can do in disasters such as this. Back in the 1960's .......

Editor: OK, here we go again with the moron that will never go away.  For all reading this, you are reading the words of an individual who constantly uses different names in order to litter our pages with his racist and generally hateful point of view on issues.  I know this individual's history, I would disregard the last comment in this story under this name.

ibelieve7 January 13, 2010 3:44 pm (Pacific time)

the bible tells us of Gods wrath. it was not just old testiment, it is upon us now.

L McCrell January 13, 2010 3:28 pm (Pacific time)

82 ABN DIV: Are you serious? Do you think Peace Corps volunteers, for example, are all white conservative Republicans? ("...far left radicals...never go into dangerous places nor chip in with their own money..."). Your comments display clearly your ignorance and blindness, as much so as Mr. Robertson's.

willie lynch January 13, 2010 3:25 pm (Pacific time)

And this obviously self-loathing, ignorant sister doesn't have the self respect to get up and walk out on this nonsense or even the knowledge of the history of the valiant effort of the slaves in Haiti to free themselves. The problem is not just this man is a fool it is that Black people remain IGNORANT to their own history.

Lional January 13, 2010 3:18 pm (Pacific time)

Amen Tim.

Jas January 13, 2010 3:08 pm (Pacific time)

Robertson's statements are at least as revolting and insensitive (maybe even moreso) as Jeremiah Wright's statements after 9/11. Neither one of them are true men of God. They both are just wolves in sheepskin clothing or just politicians pretending to be men of God. The First Amendment I feel (concerning separation of church and state) should be a two-way street as the framers intended it to be.

The kettle is black January 13, 2010 3:03 pm (Pacific time)

Pat Robertson is a Christian... As Christan as they come.

David Wehbe January 13, 2010 3:00 pm (Pacific time)

Pat so desperate for attention, can only get it but saying repulsive things. who the hell does he think he is anyways. He's the Devil himself.

Natalie January 13, 2010 2:56 pm (Pacific time)

Wow... I'm speechless.

John January 13, 2010 2:52 pm (Pacific time)

Anyone who is truly a man of God would never utter such words. This lesser man can't even get past the 2nd commandment. When likely more than 100,000 are dead and many more homeless, injured, devastated in untold ways, for someone to come from the pulpit and utter such condemnation and judgement, while doing it in the name of religion...trash in, trash out.

Charles January 13, 2010 2:44 pm (Pacific time)

Pat Robertson is nothing but a figure head for a disgusting cash making enterprise. I truly feel sorry for all the sheep he leads down the garden path. I can only imagine what he and his cronys say when no one is listening. This kind of comment does not surprise me in the least. He should feel shame over what he said and ment by that comment, but, then you would have to be a Christian to feel shame.

Rob January 13, 2010 2:41 pm (Pacific time)

Pat Roberson is truly a false prophet. If there is a devil then Pat made a deal with him long ago. No other way to explain how someone like him is allowed spit such reprehensible bile across the airwaves. Disgusting.

Mad God! January 13, 2010 2:35 pm (Pacific time)

Only Robertson's god is capable of such stupidities: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9bMi4s_yOEandfeature=player_embedded

Matthew Barr January 13, 2010 2:35 pm (Pacific time)

Well said. I agree with you that he is nothing more than a poser who in no way shows the love and grace that God desires for everyone. Maybe the good coming from this is seeing how much of an ignorant jerk Pat Robertson really is

82 ABN DIV January 13, 2010 2:31 pm (Pacific time)

Robertson has his own broadcast network and FOX personnel immediately took this clown to task. FOX News Network does not support radical views like the other networks do. Years ago I spent considerable time in both Santo Domingo and Haiti, they are two vastly different places on the same island. Imagine the stark differences between the two Korea's and that may help one to imagine the vast differences between these two places. If you want to address real racism in this country how about Harry Reid and the "Light-skin and negro dialect" crack this moron made. Does he imply that dark skinned people who speak with an accent are unfit to hold elective office? Robertson is a clown who has no real power while Reid and the party of slavery, the KKK, Jim Crow, military segregation and many more insulting historical behaviors do. I'll wager that it will be conservatives that provide the lion's share of support for these people both by ongoing funding and on sight assistance. You won't see the far left radicals there, for they never do go into dangerous places nor chip in with their own money. Just watch and see what happens.
