(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - In the first contest of its kind, b-roll.net -- the foremost online community of professional television photographers -- is looking for the world's best television news video of 2007 and the top-notch photographers who shot it.

The 2007 b-roll.net AWARDS is the first professional video contest without videotape. The entire competition will be waged online: uploaded entries, web voting, and instant online results.

Starting January 1st 2008 television photographers from around the world will have two weeks to upload their best video from 2007 to b-roll.net.

Entries will be accepted through January 15th 2008. Contestants must be registered members of the b-roll.net FORUM to enter and vote. There is no entry fee and online voting results are instantaneous. Voting begins on January 16th and ends on January 31st, when the b-roller of the Year will be revealed.

Shooters will compete in 10 categories: The core categories of Spot News, General News, Soft Feature, In Depth, and Live Shot/Standup, and in addition, five supplemental categories of Breaking News, Hard Feature, Sport, Franchise, and Investigative.

First, second, and third place winners will be chosen in each category. In addition, three photographers who enter all five core categories and score the highest overall will be named Best of b-roll.net. These regional champions represent two domestic divisions and one international division.

The photographer with the most votes for his/her uploaded clips will be named b-roller of the Year.

The b-roller of the Year will be honored at the 2008 b-roll BASH at NAB in Las Vegas. The grand champion will receive the first b-roller of the Year trophy. All first place winners in each category, regional champions, and the grand champion will receive trophies and prizes including professional gear provided by top industry sponsors.
