(NEWPORT) - The Lincoln County Sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect(s) who vandalized five cell phone towers. The towers have been rendered useless because of recent thefts investigators said. The suspect(s) stole copper wire from the towers, presumably to sell at metal scrap yards in the mid-Willamette Valley for drugs. Investigators said the price of copper is currently very high. The vandals are attacking towers in remote timberland areas. Five separate companies have reported thefts, and on one site, the damage done was estimated at $15,000. Anyone with information should contact the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at (541) 265-4231. I am a Tower climber and have been for 28 years. This is not what we should be concerned about, the fact is the cell company's are makeing billions of dollars a day!!!! The company's that build and mantain there sites are getting stiffed by the lawyers and crooked buisness deals. This has been going on for a long time and has put alot of Honest men out of buisness, out of dignity, and out of faith in human beings ..What can be done against all there power ???

Al: Peter Drucker prophesied every one of these corporate perversions 30 yrs. ago --and provided ways-to-fix, tied to corporat charters. If,when Americans VOTE and sieze system AGAIN, as in at least three past-eras, we can begin to clean up mess you keep describing.

Henry, I am sure your sons are honorable and good people. They are probably not even aware of how evil these cell phone companies are with all their little legal tricks. Easier said than done; I wish your sons positions in companies that are not so unethical. Also the behavior on the Board Room level in cell-phone companies is deplorable. They will get you anyway they can and have lay people sign complicated take-it-or-leave-it contracts that should be illegal. Our representatives are not representing us on that one either. Did you notice there are virtually no pay phones left in the country. Give me a good old fashioned pay phone or a Citizen Band radio. 73's and send me a QSL card.

Al: You got it straight on some points...but some people make their living via these towers. My son leases, then re-sells service...and at 50 still climbs towers himself to protect his crew. He might need police power to protect, himself and his employees. Cannot deny much you say but solution must answer problem, and for now security due these people, too - Constitutionally like anyone else.

Thank you Allison! Another reason that I hate the cell phone companies and will not get one unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. The next time would be a pay as you go one. No CONTRACTS! But in the meantime, it is a relief to not have one. I want to be left alone when I am busy.
Allison Merideth January 13, 2007 10:45 pm (Pacific time)
Not to say the least, Americans are the only idiots in the world to pay for incoming calls on their cell phones.
Albert Marnell January 13, 2007 9:17 am (Pacific time)
Presumably to sell to metal scrap yards for drugs....give us all a break....! You have no idea why people steal, why plant a seed in peoples' minds related to drugs? Does it get more attention and public participation to help the corrupt wireless companies to get more people to be free watchdogs? Maybe these men can not find living wage jobs. Invention is the mother of necessity....not the other way around. Get a walkie-talkie. Most cell phone calls are for idle chit-chat and young people who love to talk about nothing have gotten addicted to them. Talk about addiction...cell phones are like a drug to young people. Cell phones can easily get young people in deep financial trouble. They also facilitate the distribution of everything illegal. Why doesn't the Sheriff's office have a meaningful food, clothing and housing drive for the homeless? Why are you so concerned about multinational phone companies? I guess you were not taught in the police academy what is a real crime in this culture....like letting someone die on the streets because they are poor, mentally ill, have substance problems or a combination of all of these never ending problems. Why don't you walk over 20 homeless people to protect a piece of property? Is a tower more important than a person?

Are you sure it is not a part of the GWEN system? Look it up. Even if it is not a GWEN. I do not care what happens to these towers. I just got rid of my cell phone and made a complaint to the F.C.C. These cell phone companies are unethical to say the least, not to mention the taxes that the PEOPLE have been getting banged on.
