(SALEM, Ore.) - A fund has been set up in memory of a fourteen-year old Salem high school student, Alma Garcia-Martinez, who died January 9th as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident two days earlier in Salem during freezing weather.

Alma Garcia as she was known to her friends, had attended Whiteaker Middle School in Salem and was a student this year at McNary High School in Salem.

Her loss sent a shock throughout the community. School officials at Whiteaker and McNary said Alma was a popular student who had left a good impression and worked hard and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Melissa Martinez is Alma's aunt. She is representing the family at this extremely difficult time.

"She will always be missed. She was a young talented and beautiful child. My heart goes out the whole family. We will always love and miss "Pepa" Alma Garcia-Martinez"

She says Alma's immediate family has a fund set up with US Bank under the name of Alma Garcia-Martinez and the account number is 153660908.

The family is hard hit by this devastating event and they could use some assistance from this community.

"We're hoping you can help get the word out.. They could use the help."

Anyone who wants to assist this family can visit any branch of the US Bank and make a contribution to the account.

I was a senior Alma's freshman year at McNary and was in marching band with her. She was one of my favorite freshman because she was always so positive even through the long hot (or rainy) practices. I now go to college in Idaho but every time I come home I find time to visit her.

We'll pray for Alma's family and friends. This kind of thing is hard to imagine surviving, it's so heavy with sadness. But God will help you through this, give it over to Him, stay strong.

We are very sorry for the loss of this young resident of Salem, Oregon who was a 14-year old student at McNary High. People need to pray for this family and remember that this is an unimaginable loss and at this point that is the only thing that matters. Thanks for expressing your sensitive comments.

We may be a news organization, but we are not here to bring grief to any family that has experienced this tragic of a loss and comments to this story that are not completely sensitive to their loss will not be approved.

Thanks for understanding, I don't take this position on our stories very often but I know the family is also reading this and there is only room for our support.

I've known her for since on last year when I met her in younglife at Church. She was really nice and sweet. I was not in McNary High School. Jose was my friend and he and I were in Oregon School for the Deaf. Jose's sister. I found out that she was dead and I was so cry for 3 day and unhappy. I really miss her so much and I never forget about Alma. I have alot of memories of her...
