Former MK & Others Suspected of Extortion and Bribery

The allegations reportedly surfaced in the wake of an undercover investigation that lasted several months, according to police.

(TEL AVIV) - A former Israeli Knesset member is one of several individuals suspected of crimes including fraud, theft and other felonious acts.

Michael Gorlovsky, former MK with the Likud party, served from 2003 to 2006. He was officially taken into custody for extortion, money laundering, conspiracy, fraud, theft and and counterfeiting documents according to the arrest warrant, Jerusalem Post reports.

In fact Gorlovsky was one of twenty people arrested in what has become known as the Netivei affair.

Others arrested include senior officials from a company that belongs to the Israeli government, "Netivei Israel – National Transport Infrastructure Company LTD ".

Allegations against the other officials include bribery, money laundering, and fraud. The event has been called one of Israel's largest corruption cases in recent years, by police investigators.

The case centers around revolve around a sophisticated system that was set up to shift large amounts of public money to "cronies and associates", according to police.

Bribery involving contractors and illegal monetary awards are part of the story investigators say, as well as a number of unfair and illegal business practices.
