India: Largest Democracy in the World, Today is the Worst Democracy in the World

The rape and brutal wounding of a young pair of citizens, a woman who had her life planned out and ahead of her, has just shaken India to the core.

(YORK, UK) - One of the most harrowing stories to come out of India in recent months was the Delhi gang rape of a 23-year old medical student that left her with mortal injuries. She and a companion were thrown from a moving bus after being savagely attacked and raped.

It is a problem that has its claws in every aspect of Indian society; from the Dalit women and girls who suffer a particularly harsh level of mistreatment as their culture represents the bottom rung of society in India's caste based culture, to upper caste Indians who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Both caste and misogyny determines literally how well people will survive, not unlike other countries so much, but here it is a blight upon the blossoming of an entire society and people deserve better.

The rape and brutal wounding of a young pair of citizens, a woman who had her life planned out and ahead of her, has just shaken India to the core and the world is watching intently, waiting to see if real steps will be taken to correct the problem; changes that will make rape and sexual abuse have a consequence.

Re: India: largest democracy in the world, today is the worst democracy in the world

Dear Rahul Gandhi,

I am William Nicholas Gomes, a visiting fellow at Centre for Applied Human Rights in University of York, UK. I am closely monitoring the Delhi gang-rape incident.

I highly appreciate that you have shared deep felt condolences to the young girl's family.

Rahul I want to quote you as reported in media as you offered your deep condolences to the young girl's family, “My heart goes out to the family of the young girl and millions of young Indians, families who work, hope and pray for a better India. We as a nation must reflect on the events of the days gone by,”

The Concepts of equality, dignity and justice are fundamental to realizing human rights. I want to let you know that India, the largest democracy in the world, today is the worst democracy in the world.

The Delhi gang-rape incident is burning example of the worst democracy in India.

President Pranab Mukherjee's son and Congress MP Abhijit Mukherjee exposed sexism among Indian politicians.

In India more than 7,200 children, including infants, are raped every year.

Rahul I want to ask you why you and other policy makers need an incident like Delhi gang rape incident to wake up from the Sleep.

On 1 December 2009, a Russian national was raped by Shantaram Naik, an MP of the Indian National Congress.

In 2012 congressman Bikram Singh Brahma was accused of raping a woman in the Chirang district of Assam.

Rahul do you remember Thangjam Manoroma, who was brutally murdered by the armed forces of 17, Assam Rifles stationed in Manipur.

After the incident at least 40 parading naked and holding placards that read: "Indian Army rape us" and "Indian Army takes our flesh."

India is more weak and polarized than it was 65 years ago. India's weakness is reflected, in Delhi gang-rape incident. It is evident from the acute and expanding polarization of Indians who consider themselves privileged or discriminated.

Rahul, you are lucky! As your mother and sister!

All of you don’t need to face the perverted politicians, police, army and others who are waiting to rape, gang rape and kill women. Rahul and your family are lucky to be the ruling elites.

I am quite sure if your mother Sonia Gandhi or your sister Priyanka Gandhi were victims of such heinous incident like the innocent girl did, you would not just end up in sharing condolences, nor your fellow friends and perverted politicians like Congress MP Abhijit Mukherjee.

I want to ask every Indian, is this what they disserve? If not, then what is the meaning of independence and of sovereign existence?

It is time when every citizen should call upon the government and demand each bit of that dream the founding fathers of the nation promised.

Sincerely

William Nicholas Gomes
