(Salem) - Walking isn't a new idea, but still a good one. And with a buddy, walking is fun, and somewhat therapeutic as well. Not everyone has a partner, but standing by is the Willamette Humane Society (WHS) with more than 105 dogs to choose from for your walking partner and canine companion. WHS uses the scientifically-proven Meet Your Match program to match an adopter`s personality with a dog`s `canine-ality," giving the best chance for a compatible match with their new family. `We are matchmakers," said Susan Carey, WHS executive director. `Our staff and volunteers work with these animals day after day, and we are committed to pairing adopters with animals who will meet their expectations." The Meet Your Match program evaluates many aspects of the dogs` character, including energy level. They are then color-coded according to their `canine-ality". Typically, `green" dogs have lots of energy to spare and would be excellent running partners, `orange" dogs are active and would enjoy frequent walks, and `purple" dogs are often happier in quieter homes with only moderate exercise. This placement style has made successful adoption a regular occurrence at WHS. If you`re not in the right place in your life to adopt a dog, consider taking a walk with one anyway. WHS welcomes volunteers, and so do their many awaiting animals. Do check with your doctor if you have questions about any type of exercise, walking included, and your health. You may view adoptable animals online at www.WillametteHumane.org or visit them at the shelter weekdays Noon-7 PM, and weekends from Noon-6 PM.
