(PORTLAND, Ore.) - The kids at Doernbecher Children's Hospital received a special guest today. Miss Oregon, Kari Virding, performed in character as Cinderella. A 2005 graduate of Azusa Pacific University, Kari Virding. Miss Oregon 2007, is described as a young professional with dedication and drive.

That sounds good, but even better when you realize that Virding stars in the Blue Monkey Theater Company's tribute to the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Cinderella which ran through December 30th. She was accompanied by the Prince during the musical performance today at Doernbecher.

The 1:00 PM visit was sponsored by Blue Monkey Theater Company, a group that says it is committed to expanding the vision of what theater for young people is and can be by creating theater experiences that are challenging, honest and fearless. You can learn more by visiting their Website: bluemonkeytheater.org.

Through participation in state and local pageants in the Miss America Organization Kari gained over $15,000 in college scholarships, allowing her to pursue her Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership. Having worked in the non-profit sector for the past 2 years, Kari Virding plans on utilizing her education to run a non-profit organization.

As a volunteer wish grantor with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Kari has discovered a passion for working with children and young adults with life-threatening medical conditions. Kari will spend her year working with a variety of non-profit organizations and community groups who assist Oregon's neediest youth.
