President Issues Statement on Republican Refusal to Close Single Tax Loophole

"I believe we should do better."

(WASHINGTON DC) - The following statement from the President was issued minutes ago....

Today, Republicans in the Senate faced a choice about how to grow our economy and reduce our deficit. And instead of closing a single tax loophole that benefits the well-off and well-connected, they chose to cut vital services for children, seniors, our men and women in uniform and their families. They voted to let the entire burden of deficit reduction fall squarely on the middle class.

I believe we should do better. We should work together to reduce our deficit in a balanced way – by making smart spending cuts and closing special interest tax loopholes. That’s exactly the kind of plan Democrats in the Senate have proposed. But even though a majority of Senators support this approach, Republicans have refused to allow it an up-or-down vote – threatening our economy with a series of arbitrary, automatic budget cuts that will cost us jobs and slow our recovery.

Tomorrow I will bring together leaders from both parties to discuss a path forward. As a nation, we can’t keep lurching from one manufactured crisis to another. Middle-class families can’t keep paying the price for dysfunction in Washington. We can build on the over $2.5 trillion in deficit reduction we’ve already achieved, but doing so will require Republicans to compromise. That’s how our democracy works, and that’s what the American people deserve.

Things on the economic front appear to be going as planned, as per those who seem determined to drive us under. I will not even discuss our incredibly high corporate tax rates (over twice Canada's), which also impact that motorcycle or paint store,or any other small to medium-sized business, found in any town, not just major corps. Well here's the latest job drain, and please, try to see that it's spin coming from the whitehouse, this [below] is reality: "Breaking: Obama Sends 1,400 Manufacturing Jobs and Sensitive Technology to Brazil. Yesterday, after a conflict-fraught deliberation process, the Obama Administration awarded the Light Air Support (LAS) contract to Brazilian-based Embraer over Beechcraft; a Wichita Kansas based company with a long history of supplying the U.S. military with aircraft. Had Beechcraft been granted the contract, the company expected to add or sustain 1,400 jobs in the U.S. The Embraer plane, on the other hand, will be primarily built in Brazil, with only about 50 assembly jobs in the U.S. http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2013/02/breaking-obama-sends-1400-manufacturing-jobs-sensitive-technology-to-brazil/

Matt, I think you meant to say "career politicians"... Both parties are just as much to blame for our current problems.

Anonymous @ 4:06pm reflects the public record. In regards to the 2nd Amendment, just as many democrats, Independents and Republicans are on the same page. So why have the senate democrats not provided a budget for four years? How can you have meaningful debate when one group just sits on their asses and spits on the law, and blames actual "producers" for doing their legislative jobs? Look at the record, not the spin.

That comment above is what repub's do, they blame, they force you to war, they don't want women to have choice, they implement things like homeland security and spit on our constitution over everything but gun rights, and blame the good people. What a hosebag jerk.

Obama as per all primary news sources created the Sequester situation in 2011. He signed it into law. The Republican House has offered two bi-partisan bills to deal with this situationi the last 18 months. Senate president Harry Reid has not brought them up for debate, nor has he, as required by law, passed a budget for about 4 years now. Propaganda and lies, misdirection and threats to journalists like Bob Woodward are becoming more common. Expect the lies to simply become more and more Orwellian. It just goes to show how many people simply have given up being independent goal seekers, they want everything handed to them. Eventually, like all tyrants, they will come for you.
