(Portland) - Republican contender for Oregon Governor Kevin Mannix offered his criticism of Governor Kulongoski`s State of the State Speech Friday. `We have serious challenges facing us today: kids education, access to healthcare, and growing our economy. But listening to the Governor`s speech today reminded me of the movie Groundhog Day." Mannix makes no reference to Republican led efforts to fight additional educational funding last year. Mannix had more harsh criticism for Friday`s speech, going so far as to imply that the Governor has done nothing at all since taking office. `It`s the same old script, and Kulongoski`s programs boil down to four exhausted scenes: More taxes, more government, zero vision, and zero achievement" Kevin Mannix made his comments after attending the State of the State address delivered to the City Club in Portland. `After three years and two lengthy legislative sessions, it`s too little, too late," Mannix emphasized, pointing to what he calls two of the longest and least productive sessions in Oregon`s legislature under Kulongoski`s management. Mannix says the Governor`s programs lack both vision and sustainable reforms, `and every plan he laid out comes with a new layer of bureaucracy." `What Salem needs is a management overhaul," said Mannix. `We need reform of state government at every level, and we need a new generation of leadership to effect that change." Mannix said he will actively recruit new business to Oregon and fight to keep businesses here from leaving. The Governor must aggressively drive the economic growth necessary for reducing class size, holding the line on taxes, and improving access to healthcare for our most vulnerable citizens. `I can deliver a message of reform because I have a record of reform. With positive change, I am convinced that Oregon`s greatest days lie ahead."
