(Salem) - Baker Charter School, which is the newest charter elementary school in the Salem-Keizer School District, is beginning its spring admissions events. Parents and children will have several opportunities to come learn more about this unique and exciting school that administrators say is proving to be a great success in its first year. The various events are designed to give the community an opportunity to tour the school, meet Anne Griffith, Baker's principal, and to learn more about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, which Baker is incorporating. The school's IB Primary Years Program approaches all subjects from an international perspective, while meeting all of the curriculum requirements of the Salem-Keizer School District. Interested parents can learn more about this program by going to www.ibo.org. Baker Charter School is currently grades K, 1 and 2, and will add one grade each year until it reaches kindergarten through fifth grade in 2008. There are a few remaining spaces for this school year, but the big event is the spring lottery for next year's new students. After accepting applications March 1st through 15th, Baker will hold the lottery March 20th. Baker Charter School event dates and times: Baker Charter School is located on the stunning 50-acre campus of the Oregon School for the Deaf. Drop-in Tours for Interested Families: Feb 21st, 28th, & March 7th, 10:00 AM-noon. Applications Accepted: March 1st - 15st. Baker Lottery for 06-07 School Year: March 20th, 6:30 PM.
