(PORTLAND, Ore.) - Deputies in Washington County shot a man who died from his injuries Saturday evening after a short pursuit that began at about 5:30 PM. Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington County Sheriff says both deputies have been placed on administrative leave.

The shooting is under investigation by the Washington County Major Crimes Team.

Ray says the pursuit began at SW 175th Avenue and SW Shady Peak Lane. "Two deputies pursued Shane Grundmeyer, 39 years old, after he failed to yield when they turned attempted to pull him over. Mr. Grundmeyer rammed two patrol cars during the confrontation."

Ray confirms that during the incident, two deputies fired shots at Mr. Grundmeyer. He was taken to Oregon Health Sciences University where he was pronounced dead.

"Deputies were attempting to stop Mr. Grundmeyer for multiple offenses. He had a felony warrant for fraud related crimes. He had also been involved in an incident in Beaverton earlier in the evening."

Ray says that during that earlier evening incident, a Beaverton officer attempted to stop Mr. Grundmeyer but he would not stop for the officer.

The Beaverton Officer did not pursue Mr. Grundmeyer, Ray said, sdding that Mr. Grundmeyer was also wanted for questioning related to a Washington County criminal mischief case.

The Washington County Major Crimes team is investigating the shooting along with the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART), and the Washington County Sheriff's Office Forensics Unit.

The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

When the investigation is complete it will be forwarded to the Washington County District Attorney's office for review.

The Sheriff's Office will also conduct an internal review of the shooting that will examine the non-criminal, use of force aspects of the shooting. Because this is an ongoing investigation no details of the shooting are being released tonight.

This is the same outfit that gunned down a 19 year old kid in front of his parents last year because "he was threatening them with a butter knife". In my 50 years I have seen the police morph from the friendly public servants to kevlar clad terrorists that will kill at the drop of a hat. At our little annual city celebration in August there were about 250 people there and SIX sheriffs wearing kevlar and fully armed, looking all stern and dangerous.......freakin idiots. They also brought a laptop and were walking around running everyones plates... As a result, many of us are bo longer supporting or attending the event next year. Not only that, the Marion Co, sheriffs dept BILLED the city (Scotts Mills - pop. 330) $4000 for it's "services". This is like the freakin Mafia. Reminds me of Orwell's "Animal Farm".

When will our cities police officers stop shooting first then ask questions later?

So ramming a police car gets you the death penalty....only in America.

God bless our troops here in the USA for our safety
