(SALEM) - Salem Police Patrol Officers responded to a "Suspicious Person" call at the Texaco Gas Station at Commercial St. SE and Hoyt St. SE. at 7:27 p.m. Friday, reports Salem PD's Lieutenant Jim Anglemier.

He says it began when an officer observed the suspect as he ran across Commercial Street SE from the area of Boice Street S., after the report of an armed robbery.

"During a foot pursuit between the Officer and the Suspect, gunshots were exchanged and the Suspect was shot," Anglemier said. He says officers provided medical aid until Fire and Medics arrived. The suspect was transported to Salem Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Anglemier says no citizens in the area were injured.

Salem Police Officer Oscar Zambrano, the officer involved in the shooting, also was not injured. The identity of the suspect are being withheld per investigative protocol. Anglemier says the investigation will be conducted by the Oregon State Police and Marion Co. District Attorney's Office.
