Paul Ryan's Promise for Veterans: a Load of Crap

The same politicians who root for war in the first place belong to this new movement to rollback cost of living increases for retired veterans.

(SALEM) - USA Today gave Paul Ryan a nice big page to outline his thoughts on how it is OK to make U.S. military retirees foot the bill for this country's ridiculous budgetary priorities.

They want to balance the budget on the backs of veterans by lowering the cost of living increase for retired vets until they hit the age of 62. Of course nobody knows more clearly than the government, that a growing segment of veterans will never reach that age because of America's failing VA healthcare system.

Chuck Hagel, the Defense Secretary, who served in Vietnam, is backing this move against retirees. That just goes to show that nothing is sacred any more. Of course Hagel will never suffer as a result of it. Any politician who would seek to harm the future of those who serves a full career in the military is a misguided sellout.

Remember the recent story about how the government was forcing the sale of tanks that the army said it didn't need? The list of items that would save $20 billion, the amount the govt. is hoping to recoup by breaking their bargain with career military vets is long and ugly. The same politicians who root for war in the first place belong to this new movement to rollback cost of living increases for retired veterans.

Ryan implies in the newspaper article that many veterans retiring after twenty years are of "prime working age" and that is equally shameful. These men and women endure many hazards in their military service that the civilian sector and the politicians would not begin to understand. Many are broken even when retiring at relatively young ages, many need to take jobs and use their retirements to simply make ends meet.

Ryan outs himself by writing, "And to be clear, the money we save from this reform will go right back to the military. Veterans aren't Washington's piggy bank. They deserve fair compensation. And we owe them a benefit structure they can count on."

These blatant wankers like Ryan would sell their mothers if the profit was right, probably their children too, because, as we conclude, nothing is sacred anymore in the USA today.

Did the democrats in the senate pass it? Did the community organizer Obama sign it? Let's be honest about the process. As all polls show the majority of active duty and veterans vote conservative. This will not change, but I do want to see Ryan gone and anyone who voted for this. When you do a head count, it is the majority of democrats who made this law. It is Obama who closed down veteran memorials while he was golfing in Hawaii.

You will never convince a single reader here that everything is the fault of one party, the blame lies with all of them, the two party system is what is ruining this country. You say "the record" as if that is conclusive, other data shows most Veterans leaning left after service, while it is true that most active duty will tend to lean and vote right.  Also, Veterans who get a real taste for war almost always turn toward peace after their service, the military members who think in left and right terms are almost always non-deployed or in the rear with the gear. Combat Vets generally are reserved, they do not brag about their service, they don't claim to be superior to other people, etc.  War is very humbling after the guns stop firing.
