Transportation:Sunday update from ODOT: With another night of 24 hour plowing and sanding of I-5 in Marion, Linn, and Lane counties, ODOT crews are now shifting their focus to getting secondary highways in better shape for the Monday morning commute. Leaning and fallen trees along forested stretches of highways are creating unexpected road closures and lane restrictions. Fallen power lines are also preventing ODOT crews from plowing certain highways. At this hour the problem areas include US 20, OR 18 and OR 34 in Lincoln County. Further south, OR 126 west of Veneta and Territorial Hwy. in Lane County. If travel is necessary, motorists should b e ready for unexpected closures and restrictions. ODOT crews are continuing to plow slush on secondary highways and are attempting to clear snow berms from local driveways when possible. ODOT appreciates that the public has curtailed travel this weekend. If the curtailment can extend through today, road conditions should improve for Monday morning's commute Canby Area Transit: All Dial-A-Ride trips canceled (Effective tomorrow - Mon Feb 10th) Orange Line buses will run. Expect delays due to road conditions. Dress for extreme weather. Cherriots - Salem Keizer Transit: Buses on snow routes. Cherriots route 12 remains on snow route. It is not serving Kingwood West. All other Cherriots routes have returned to normal routes. UPDATE Riders new to the system should plan their trip ahead of time. All riders should allow extra time for travel. Buses may be delayed because of road conditions and traffic. Dress warmly for travel and be prepared for cold and wet weather conditions. Use caution on walkways and bus stops that are covered in ice and snow. Customer Service may have longer than usual hold times. Customer Service can be reached at 503.588.BUSS (2877) Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers responded to multiple incidents on I-84 in Hood River and Wasco counties. Expect significant delays and drive accordingly. Please check current road and weather conditions at www.tripcheck.com. Chain restrictions lifted on I-5 in Linn County Chain restrictions are no longer in place on I-5 in Linn County. However, snow and ice conditions should be expected and extreme caution should be taken if driving through the area. Valley and Coast Highways Ready for Monday Commute Thanks to terrific assistance from the public who reduced unnecessary travel over the weekend, ODOT crews have made solid progress in getting state highways on the Coast and in the mid and south Willamette Valley ready for Monday morning's commute to work and school. In an eight county area from Astoria to Salem, and south to Eugene/Springfield, ODOT crews, working 24 hours per day, have reduced snow pack on state highways to mainly the higher elevations. Spots of ice and slush will still be encountered, but the key state highways in the Salem area and the Eugene area, and I-5 in Marion, Linn and Lane counties, have been brought back to bare pavement. There are some isolated locations, like Territorial Highway, south of Veneta in Lane County, where downed power lines have prevented snow removal. ODOT will continue to work through the night to continue to improve conditions. Motorists should keep a close eye on the weather forecast. Even though snow has been removed from most state highways, any moisture on the road will refreeze if the temperatures dip below freezing. Motorists traveling through forested areas should also be alert to tree limbs and debris from ice damaged trees. Bicyclists will encounter snow along most highway shoulders. They should also be alert to sand and gravel remaining on the roadways. In addition to reaching bare pavement on the urban highways, ODOT crews have assisted local communities in helping with snow removal from local and county roads. Motorists should still anticipate slush and ice on local roads, where resources have been limited. Once again, ODOT would like to thank the public for their patience and assistance during this significant weather event. UPDATE Sunday at 4:15 p.m.: ODOT: Valley, No. Coast: OR 99W is closed approximately 2.5 miles south of Monmouth, as a disabled semi is removed from the highway. The closure could last as late as 4:30 p.m. There is no detour. Motorists should avoid the area or expect delays. Seaside, Ore. - February 6 - (UPDATE 6:29 pm) Highway 101 reopened in both directions between Avenue U in Seaside and milepost 24 at Peterson Point (near HWY 26 junction). ODOT has sanded the roads in this area, allowing vehicles to resume travel. The Wheatland Ferry is CLOSED due to inclement weather
