(INDIAN BEACH, Ore.) - The Coast Guard rescued a surfer who was reported to be in distress today off Indian Beach in Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach, Oregon. The Coast Guard says they received a call at 3:56 p.m. from the Cannon Beach Police Department, reporting that a male surfer appeared to be in distress at the north end of Indian Beach in Ecola State Park. A spokesperson for the Coast Guard Air Station in Astoria, says they diverted an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to the scene at approximately 4:00 p.m. The MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 4:18 p.m. and lowered a rescue swimmer. The rescue swimmer recovered the man, who was then hoisted to the helicopter. The surfer was airlifted and transferred to Ecola State Park. Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue transported him to Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, Oregon.
