Man Dies in Fatal Crash Near Bandon

Police say approximately ten minutes before the crash, the vehicle was spotted driving erratically.

(BANDON, Ore.) - A Langlois-area man died Wednesday morning in a single vehicle traffic crash on Highway 101 south of Bandon. Preliminary investigation by Oregon State Police indicates the victim was not using safety restraints.

OSP Sergeant John Keeler says today at approximately 6:25 a.m. a 1997 Dodge Dakota pickup driven by 34-year old Robert Wayne Azevedo of Langlois, was southbound on Highway 101 near milepost 282 when it traveled off the highway and crashed into a tree. After impact, the pickup flipped over onto its top.

Approximately ten minutes before the crash, the vehicle was spotted driving erratically.

Mr. Azevedo was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not using safety restraints.

OSP troopers from the Coos Bay Area Command office were assisted by Bandon Police Department, Coos County Sheriff's Office, Coos County Medical Examiner, ODOT, Bandon Fire Department, North Bend Towing and Amling & Schroeder Funeral Service.

The highway was limited to one lane of travel for approximately 4 hours.

Editor to Aaron & Melannie Babb: We run a lot of news and when things have happened, the police send out a press release.  We have no good way to verify facts during the initial run, we have to rely on the police information that is sent to us.  When a party contacts us as in this case, we do consider what is expressed.  In this case, the story has been modified to no longer reflect the allegation that troubled you.  Honestly, I can understand.  Sorry for your loss, and even if it is hard to believe, we really do care.

Wayne more than likely died from a heart attack. This may have caused his erratic driving. There was no alcohol found on him.
