(SALEM, Ore.) - Salem firefighters were called to a house fire at 2975 Jensen St NE in Salem at 4:40 a.m. today.

Salem Fire Deputy Fire Chief Joe Parrott, says the response was upgraded to a second alarm based on witness reports shortly after fire crews were dispatched.

"Firefighters on six fire engines and one ladder truck quickly brought the fire under control, but not before the home was seriously damaged by the fire," Parrott said.

"It is believed the occupants of the home were away at the time of the fire. Fire investigators are on scene. The cause has not yet been determined."

Parrott says more information to follow as it becomes available.
